Wadsworth Grizzly Invitational (1/20)

Probably the best one day tournament in NE Ohio. Twelve wrestlers rated in the top 20 nationally in their respective wt. classes, and almost fifty wrestlers rated in the top 10 of their respective wt. classes among Div I, II, and III.

182 pounders should draw some attention.

I don't think Oregon Clay will be there this year.

Nuts and bolts: Wadsworth wins both on top end talent and depth

Battle for second - mixture of teams including SVSM, Aurora, CVCA, Lake Catholic, and Olentangy Liberty

My mistake, Did not realize that LaSalle was not returning this year. They were the team that would have put this tournament on a different level.

This tournament lost some firepower with Lasalle, Oregon Clay, and Graham not coming anymore.

Graham was not returning as long as O. Lib. was coming. It has always been one or the other. Clay is still solid for sure, but not quite like they've been. LaSalle would have put the tournament on another level.

What’s the back story behind O Lib and Graham?

GIT (possible) W2W4:
-120: 4 state experienced kids (3 SP) plus 2 impact frosh
-126: 5 state experienced kids plus 1 impact frosh
-132: 4 state experienced kids
-138: 4 state experienced kids plus 1 impact frosh
-160: 4 state experienced kids
-182: 3 returning top 3 state placers

Of course subject to where kids actually wrestle

At 182, I think the seed criteria would feed Lawson and Heath into a semifinal with Baughman in the other half of the draw (the first two were S3's last year, Baughman a runner-up). Lawson beat Baughman in last year's final at this tournament.

At 138, Baughman was extended to OT by Wymer in the MIT semi, would be projected as a semi here also with state champion John Martin Best (Parkesburg WV) likely also in this weight. Garr of Aurora is the fourth key factor here.

At 160, David Johnson (assuming he wrestles, which he didn't at Top Gun) is probably the second best kid here though he didn't get to state last year.

Additions from the original team list are Avon (3 kids - I'm guessing 106, 195, and 220) and Cloverleaf (7 kids - including 160-195)

Baughman has the seeding tie breaker over Lawson....he is from Wadsworth and NO WAY they give Lawson the seed over Baughman....bet the farm on that, easier money than Pats/Jax😀

Bucksman, Besides John Martin Best, what other wrestlers from Parkersburg should we watch for? Thanks!

Best is the only one I had on my national spreadsheet. However, they also return the following state medalists from WV Class AAA (big school); it should be noted that placement in WV is not necessarily a great indication of ability level in Ohio.

Donahue 3/106 - returns at 106
Ackerman 3/113
Moler 4/132 - returns at 132
Carder 2/145 - returns at 145
Fox 4/152
Nay 5/160 - competing at 182

I haven't seen Ackerman or Fox in the results this year though scanning a couple of tournaments.

I'm thinking Jacob Decatur goes 113 for this. Scarborough can help maximize points at 106. I think they bump everyone from 106-126 up. Sinchok goes 126 Jordan 132.

IF I was told correctly it had something to do with transfers from Graham to O.L.

If the announcers are as rude as they were last year, they probably need to sensor it first!

A bit disrespectful to the kids competing against Wadsworth but also creepy...talking about kids girlfriends and stuff.

Really! It is a local volunteer broadcast for the Wadsworth community. I doubt if teams come or stay away because of the WCTV broadcast. Next year why don't you talk to the station in Elyria to come broadcast it or better yet ESPN. If you really can't stand the local yokels and your dislike of the announcers is greater than the matches, don't watch the show. You have the power!

Very disappointed in Joey Baughman. He lost a very good match against Trevor Lawson 3 - 0. He refused to come out for the awards march when the place winners were announced for 182. I understand being upset with with the loss, but the refusal to come out for the awards march shows a disrespect for the sport.
