Unless you are a superior athlete (McBride, for example), spending 75% of your year focused on football will not catapult you to being a better player than someone devoting 100% to basketball. These kids aren't in the gym enough...and it shows.

If this is the ceiling for basketball, then that's sad.

False. Most of the time, the kids cut aren't that good

I expect them to play the right kids, for the right amount of time.

Sure, if the kids don't pick up a ball all year and then just show up for try-outs, of course they're not going to make it (well, certain kids will).

But if Elder had a development program for kids in 7th grade where there are working on skills year-round, then there are a lot more kids with the skills to play at the level that should be expected.

Of course it's up to the kid to do it and get better, but it also creates more talent for Elder. Instead of always looking at it as "it's 100% up to the kid to get better", why not create some development parameters to increase the skill of the kids that will end up in your program. They have to have more skin in the game in their accountability to make kids better.

It can't just be "it's all up to you". That's ridiculous. Why wouldn't they want to help? They do this for a very small percentage of kids...and it's not enough to compete.

It all comes back to their investment in success. If they're satisfied with .500 and simply just taking the best football athletes on their teams, then this is what will result. A school this size should have multiple Harp/Hofmeyer/Miller type of players every year.

Multiple Harp/Hoffmeyers won't win titles. Need size and athleticism in the front court. This Griffith kid is vastly more important than any feeder kid. I'd be ok if he was the only bball player they had in the class of '23. All of these feeder kids can't hold his jock. He's what they need to win a Title, everyone else irrelevant.

I know.

But all of my "internal development" talk is under the assumption they won't recruit or attempt to land these type of kids. The internal development will only keep them relevant.

Being state contenders will require them to do both.

Right now, they're doing neither.

So what do they want to be? It's a legit question of the staff and administration.

Land Griffith, case closed. That's not recruiting, kids in your backyard, go get him. I couldn't care less about any of the feeder kids at this point, or their dreams about playing for Elder, F*** em. Elder's success is dependent on Griffith, the rest of the kids are nobodies.

All of Trey's babbling and limp dik attitude are void if they can get this kid. Literally, he puts them as a state title contender Day 1. Again, your feeder kids are irrelevant. They don't win titles, they never will win titles. All efforts and attention needs to be put on this kid and getting him to Elder. Tell your sons or grandsons to pick a new sport, they aren't the future, or at least not the future of a succesful program.

A kid like this can no doubt change a program, but they would still need feeder talent. He's not going to win a state title by himself. Even LeBron's teams had multiple low level college talent to supplement LeBron.

The program needs an identity. Right now, they are just existing.

Yes, but there's not a single feeder kid in the history of feeders that's as important as Griffith. All of this stupid babbling about expanding Frosh teams means nothing if you land this kid.

Once again...listen...that is my theory for internal development under the assumption they will never go out and try to get kids like this. They never have. What makes you think this time is different?

You have to have some realism in all of this.

This is realistic, he lives closer to Elder than 90% of the students. I could care less which avg Feeder Combo Guard you throw out on the court with him.

This yr's Frosh are the exception. Imagine the Oyler kid, if he's even half as good as advertised, added to this group of Frosh in 2 yrs, that's a team that could be really special.

I was at a couple of games this past weekend and was impressed by the Harp kid, Hambleton was a stud as well but he may be done growing. Do you guys think these kids will end up being anything special at Elder? and also saw the Broxterman kid and was wondering if he's any good, seems a little soft in his play

Any update on who won the City Titles in Basketball? Nothing updated on the website. I know St. A's was playing St. Mike's in 8th Grade.

It doesn’t matter. The 6th and 7th grade looks weak. However, there’s a pretty good player at Oyler that could help. No reason the be stuck with subpar Feeder talent when a potential superstar lives down the street.
