The Ball brothers have signed with Prienu Vytautas in Lithuania. Vytautas plays in the Lithuanian League (i.e. "A" league) and the Baltic League (i.e. "B" League). General expectations seem to be they'll play role player minutes in the "B" League games.

This has the makings of a highly entertaining reality show. Vytautas is a lower-level European team that's broke, and the club plays in a town of roughly 10,000 in a 1,700 seat "arena". Huge cultural shock factor, especially factoring in seasonal weather. The brand of basketball in that nation, and across much of Europe, is extremely physical and disciplined. LaMelo may get his azz kicked by teammates if he even plays remotely like he did at Chino Hills and in AAU.

I'd bet Lavar changes course within about a month.

What kind of money are they making anyway, like $20k/year?

Kind of what I was thinking. A month may be too long before LaVar gets into it with them

Looking like that's already in the plans. From the article http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/2...ania-lithuania

"For now, the Ball brothers are only locked in for one month, as both sides have the option to terminate the contract if all parties aren't satisfied with the arrangement.

"There is a clause to terminate the contract after a month, so it's more of an experiment at this stage," Kubilius (club director) said."

Since last spring, have we gone a month without something, or someone from the Ball family making news??? Lavar Ball is like the 3 year old throwing a tantrum, just ignore him and he'll eventually go away.

Lonzo is a D-League player because he can't shoot and doesn't seem to care, and his brothers are average at best college and high school players.

Lonzo is actually an NBA player. He's a starter for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Says the guy who averages more than a post per day about, you guessed it, the Ball family.
Face it, 14Red, you just can't get enough of them!

To be fair, it's an expression that's been around longer than LaVar Ball.

I feel that this is deserving of a bump after some Twitter controversy this week. In the brothers "pro" debut one scored 29 and the other scored 35 in a "junior" game after their signing. The club and Lavar have assembled a schedule of such games, which appear to me (and basketball people who know much better than I) to be basically high school/AAU caliber opponents.

In their real pro debut in a Baltic League (i.e. "B" League) game, LiAngelo played 9 minutes and LaMelo played 5 minutes. Neither scored. Lavar's been taking a beating on social media as it seems clear this is a terrible idea from a development standpoint and that both are significantly over matched playing against European pro competition, and in a league that many have said is outside of the top-10 pro leagues in Europe. LiAngelo should have taken his theft disciplinary action at UCLA and LaMelo should still be at Chino Hills. It's looking like Lavar has screwed both of them for BBB publicity and branding.

Yeah that's not even debatable. Just a terrible decision all around and it really stems from accountability. His boys won't be held accountable by anyone. It is what it is.

LiAngelo had no shot at the NBA, not even d league but LaMelo had a shot at the NBA and he is really screwed now

I was wondering about that. In the few highlight videos I saw it looked like the guys they were going against weren't much older than those two.

To those that know basketball(Taco, nwarrior) does LaMelo still have a decent shot at the NBA, or does this whole fiasco ruin/hurt his chances?

I think this experiment has to hurt his chances. Going overseas has always seemed to be a tough adjustment for the few prep aged Americans who have taken that path short-term, but in this case I think it's a particularly bad match. European basketball is usually really physical, disciplined and played in the half-court. The Ball bros played a polar opposite style at Chino Hills and in AAU.

If he's still with Vytautas or some other team two years from now (his one college year) trying to play legit pro league minutes, I think he'll struggle badly. He has to change the entire way he plays to be a functional member of a decent or better European pro team, and to be accepted by his professional teammates, coaches, etc. I think he undoubtedly would have had a better NBA shot continuing to play street ball at Chino Hills and playing in a faster paced UCLA offense for a year.

What nwwarrior and Arrogate said. I think if things continue the way they are right now, some team may take a flier in the 2nd round but even then I doubt it. He's still 3 years away from draft eligibility. As nww said, he'll have to drastically change his game to fit the Euro league to get minutes.

Look for LaVar to bring them back to the states after a short time overseas, throw the race card around in an effort to make them eligible for high school/college and then the 9th "Circus" court steps in and rules in their favor.

Doubt that happens but they will only be there for 5 games. I wonder if they will find a new team or way to showcase their "talents"

I expect in about 5 years LaMelo and Gelo will then turn on their dad and come out and say it was all a mistake.
