Elder Playoff talk

Joe Harbin predicts Elder as a #3 seed getting a home playoff game. This of course if his prediction of beating Lasalle holds.

A loss to Lasalle puts Elder on the good side of the bubble looking at a #7 or #8 seed. Joe Harbin would not call this a lock though with a couple teams sitting at #9 and 10 with chances to over take the Panthers.

I think mathematically they have not clinched a playoff berth, but realistically they have. Now lets beat Lasalle to get that home game!

The GMC really needs to fix their scheduling. Mandatory 8 league games gives them little flexibility in scheduling. Oak Hills and Middletown are both 0-8. The decent teams like East, Fairfield, Mason, and Sycamore beat each other knocking themselves down the harbin rankings. If their goal is to send more teams to the playoffs, it would be in their best interest to reduce the number of league games.

Going into the night they had half the league in the top 8 or 9? They're going to get 4 teams in, as they did last year but prior to that they usually only would get 2 or 3. Not having to compete with the GWOC for spots is big for both the GCLS schools and the GMC.

That is a good point. That certainly helps.

I have a lot of respect for Colerain and Fairfield for scheduling tough out of conference games. East, Sycamore, and Mason I hope fall flat on their face with their weak OOC scheduling.

Ya. Mason wins are against teams without a winning record. Same for sycamore except against mason. Just won't man up and play anybody

I would love to see Espelage get Cov Cath back on the schedule. Cov Cath is 8-0 looking very capable of competing with the GCL.

I would say it's a possibility their HC lands at LS if Rody does get fired and McLaughlin replaces him. He built their program up from nothing.

CovCath wants no part of any GCL-S team. Rhoden destroyed that program when he was there. They finally rebuilt that program by becoming the LaSalle/St Eds of NKY. They want to have the nice 10-0 record. They play a GCL team and that won't happen.

Ok, but Mason did beat Elder last year. This Elder team is much, much better than last year, but knock off the chest beating.

IMO, Sycamore and Mason would benefit from more advanced OOC competition. It's helped Colerain immensely this season, as it allowed them to put the pieces in place to make leverage their talent to the highest level. Who knows, if they play some scrubs OOC, maybe Pace never gets moved to the feature RB. That certainly hamstrings them vs the better competition they'll see in the playoffs

Elder's wins before they beat Winton Woods Friday were:
1-6 Lakota West
0-7 Oak Hills
4-3 Gahanna
3-4 Moeller
Which is why Elder sat below Mason, Sycamore and Lakota East before their win Friday.

Couple big games with playoff implications tonight to keep an eye on:
Milford vs. Anderson
Mason vs. Fairfield
Sycamore vs. Lakota East

If Milford wins they'll secure a playoff spot
If Mason wins it'll muddy up the middle seeds with GMC teams
If Lakota East wins then Elder and Moeller would need to win in Week 10

Well, OH down 28-14 at half. But at least Sycamore is up 20-0 on East.

-Milford comes back to beat Anderson 41-40, vaulting them to #3 in the Region
-Mason beats Fairfield hopping them over Elder, Fairfield and Moeller
-Elder currently sitting #6, beating LaSalle keeps them in the playoffs, a loss means they need help in the form of West Clermont and Lakota East losing
-Moeller currently sitting #8 but I'm sure they have some KY L2 wins that haven't been accounted for just yet
-Wet Clermont plays Milford in what amounts to a playoff game for them
-Lakota East hosts Mason in what amounts to a playoff game for them

Elder's only L2 wins on the night, Winton Woods over DeSales and Gahanna over Grove City.

With R4 "In Progress," Elder is behind fifth place Mason and fourth place Sycamore. Next week, Mason (7-2) visits Lakota East (6-3) while Sycamore (7-2) visits Princeton (4-5). If the Panthers beat the Lancers and both Mason and Sycamore lose, will the Panthers sneak into fourth?
I take it if the Panthers win and Sycamore also wins, there is no way the Panthers can catch them.

Yes, Elder would move into 4th. Sycamore will be the favorite vs. Princeton though. Moeller would move ahead of Elder if they win out vs. Ed's and Winton Woods.

Yes, mathematically Elder can finish ahead of Sycamore and Mason if both of those teams win. I'm not liking the chances with Oak Hills for sure losing, Moeller and WW play each other so one of them will be losing. I can't imagine Broward winning. Lincoln has a tough game vs. Pickerington North.

I personally would be fine with Elder getting the #6 seed and travelling to Milford. Then, playing Colerain in round 2.

If this team keeps playing at their current level, they just need to get into the playoffs.

Some projections have them in at 7, if they lose to LS. That has them going on the road to Colerain.

Coach Ramsey versus Coach Grippa. That would make for an interesting storyline.

I think that allure has worn off with them facing off every yr when Grippa coached LS. I'm sure Specht will win Coach of the Year, but Grippa should be second. Milford was abysmal for over a decade and now he's got them on the verge of hosting a Playoff game.

Last I saw, Moeller was down 14-0 to St. Edward late in the first half.

The only way Grippa does not get Coach of the Year is if he loses in the first playoff game. He has done a tremendous job in taking that program to a very good team in just one year. He has his team, the school and the community believing. If Ramsey takes this team deep in the playoffs he could get Coach of the Year. The only way Specht gets it if he takes St. X to the state championship game for the second year in a row.

I posted that before X lost. I can't recall if this is a regular season award or not, but if it is, Grippa wins hands down.

Scott Dattilo will not get Coach of Yr but Congratulations to him on his 100th career Win Friday night! Coach of year is Grippa, in my opinion shouldn't even be close!

Here's a link to a thread on the main football page that breaks down each team's possible points and scenarios:
http://yappi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=307180

Scenario's for Elder:
-Beat LS and in, chances of hosting are slim
-Lose to LS would need one of the following 3 teams to lose: Mason, Fairfield, Moeller OR both of Lakota East and West Clermont
