I'd have to say Brad Gilbert, (former player, coach of Roddick/Agassi, commentator) gave McEnroe a run for his money on crazy court antics.

She didn't quite get it correct, but she was trying for "Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything." Standing with crapernick.

Funny because her opponent is also a women of color. Sure the judge is a white male but if it were a race and gender issue, why would he only be racist and sexist against one?

And her 1st violation was for "coaching from the stands", something that her coach fully admitted to after the match (although he did say everybody does it, and nobody gets penalized for it). So the coaching violation was legit...the 2nd violation for smashing her racket was legit...and then she just couldn't shut up and kept complaining, so she got a 3rd violation.

She lost the first set by two breaks and was down a break in the second. Could that have had anything to do with it?

The same umpire has had spats with Nick Kyrgios, Andy Murray, and Novak Djokovic for talking back to the chair. I don't think any of them are African American, female athletes.

It's acceptable in SJW-land to screw over Asians, as they screw up the narrative, overcoming racism to compete with and often exceed whitey.

Will Cain had a segment on his ESPN show and did a nice job of refuting the sexism narrative.

Agreed. That was a great opinion piece by Martina Navratilova.

It's been described as a race to the bottom. Just because the men get away with it, doesn't mean the women should too. We've been slipping towards more emotion and less respect for a long time. Maybe it's time to make sports more respectable again.

The call by the ref was correct. It's rare to see a call like that in a final, but it was correct. And goes uncalled 99.99% of the time. I've seen various players communicate with their coach and others while on the court. Nadal has signaled to his wife to get him drinks before

I read the article from Bleacher Report that yappi posted and I listened to Serena's whiny and childish tirade from the video clip. I heard and read about her playing the gender card but missed the racial thing. Where and how, exactly, did she play the race card?

No, not really EP. When you are the face of your sport, you have to be better. I think deep down Serena is embarassed. She may be as an individual, as dominant at her sport than anyone we've ever seen since Tiger. And she's done it for a long time. As good as McEnroe was, he was never the "top" tennis player, he was good, but a buffoon with his antics.

This is one of the knocks I have on LeBron. He's one of the best players in the NBA, and yet he acts like he never gets any calls? Criticizes every call and acts like he never commits a foul, when he gets away with alot.

I just think it's a terrible look for Serena.

And of course the sexism card is played because the official was a male. It just really tears down all the things women has accomplished in sports to start going down that road. You lost, deal with it.

John McEnroe certainly was the top tennis player for a period of time. He is currently 5th in titles, won Wimbledon 3 times, and the US Open 4 times (3 of them were in a row), 5th most doubles titles (back when doubles meant more), and won 9 doubles grand slams. Not to mention he was part of arguably, the GREATEST rivalry in tennis history between him and Bjorn. His year in 1984 he only lost three times! He was player of the 3 year different times. He ended the year ranked 1st 4 straight years.

He ended Borg's streak at Wimbledon and firmly supplanted himself as the face of US tennis for that era.

It is no coincidence that he is one of the most recognizable players and he hasnt been on tour since 1992. Very few other tennis players are as famous as him and very few have achieved what he did on the court. What other tennis player from that era has the brand McEnroe has today????

You couldn't be any more wrong.

He has also appeared in 28 different televison shows/movies, all of them but one he played himself. Again tell me what other tennis player from that era has the brand McEnroe carries to this day?

You can make the case he is the most recognizable American tennis player, ever

So the latest outrage is a cartoonist is racist for this "grotesque" depiction of Serena Williams.

If you're calling this "grotesque," doesn't that make YOU the racist? Now maybe portraying her opponent as a blond barbie... wait, does that make ME racist?

I showed this cartoon to my wife. Her reaction was "Yeah, that's pretty accurate. What's the problem with it"?
And we tend to come down on the liberal side of things.

Are you referring to the cartoon? Am I missing something?

In real life, Serena's opponent had yellow/blonde hair coming out of the back of her ballcap during their tennis match, just as the cartoonist depicted. Also, in the cartoon that I'm looking at, Serena's opponent is depicted a brownish color, similar to the color that the cartoonist depicted Serena...not the pinkish color used to depict the white umpire.

Besides, cartoons are meant to lampoon and often the drawings are exaggerated and, well, cartoonish.
