You do know that Mason does the mile run and has cameras set up at the 1600m and the one mile thus giving athletes times in both. The first race has a limit on the number of runners allowed in it. Watching the video, it appears that 13 boys finished that race. The results show 35 runners in both the 1600m and mile run, so they run a second heat of those not running the Angela Bizzarri mile race. All runners thus get times for both the 1600m and the mile. Mason makes a big deal of the first heat. All those runners line up in the spur of the track and are introduced to the crowd one by one. Each one then walks up the track by themselves past all the spectators in the stands while the announcer gives the crowd their racing history. They have hurdles set up between lanes six and seven so spectators can line the outer two lanes of the track to cheer on the runners. The hype surrounding this race is off the charts. Last year's boys race was a blowout win by Dustin Horter as he sought to become the first Ohio high school runner to break the four minute mile barrier. The girls race was quite a spectacle as Sam Bush (Turpin) 4:53.53 and Emma Bucher (Centerville) 4:54.03 battled it out to the end. Both could be back to stage another epic struggle if they so choose. Now if we could only get two time 1600m state champion Olivia Howell (Solon) to join the fray.

I have attended Mason only once two or three years ago. That year they ran 1600 for all heats but the Bizarri Mile races. They also ran the 1600 heats at the normal place in the schedule but the miles after the 200 and before the 3200. At least that year, the non Bizarri races were 1600 meters not a mile.

I agree it would be nice to see Howell in the race but I'm sure she and her coach have their own plan. It sure has worked for them the past two years and I think she was second as a freshman. Not too many have 4 years of 2-1-1-?.

I do remember last year that the Dream Miles were run right before the 3200m races. Sam Bush ran the mile in 4:55.36 then came back ten minutes later to win the 3200m. Amazing. What confused me was when I went to finishtiming results they had all the times in the races combined and located in the results where the normal 1600m run is. I think Mason paid extra last year to have the extra clock at the 1600m mark. Check it out here. All the mile times and 1600m enroute times are listed after the 800m relay even though the Angela Bizzarri mile race come right before the 3200m run. http://live.finishtiming.com/#/results/meet/201800155

Yes we kept them together as we did not have a schedule last year and did not realize they were later in the evening. Plus it was confusing to parents as to why the kids were showing in 2 races when they only ran one. Better to keep them together.

Were all sections mile races or were the non-championship races 1600?

Everyone who ran has a mile time listed as well as an In route 1600m split time, so that should answer your question.

Boys mile times - http://live.finishtiming.com/#/resul.../event/9/Final

Girls mile times - http://live.finishtiming.com/#/resul...event/10/Final

6 girls under 5:00

Six girls broke the 5:00 mile barrier at Mason tonight. Wow!

A 27-year old school record went down to the lady in 6th place. Hannah Doerger (Ursuline Academy) broke 1992 State Division I 1600m champion Carrie Groth's long-time school record of 5:00.7 MT, set in the prelims of the Anderson District meet in 1992. Groth won the state title in '92 with an almost identical time of 5:00.94. Ms. Groth has been notified that her record has been beaten, and congrats to the new record-holder!

finishtiming had cameras set up at both the 1600m and mile run finish lines and all runners got times in both. The depth of field was absolutely incredible at Mason last night as both the boys and girls races recorded seven of the top ten times for 1600m in the state rankings for this year.

Scary to think that this is the new norm for girls distance running.

Some of the district meets could have 4-5 sub 5:00 runners.

Look at the Dayton District at Wayne-
Emma Bucher- Centerville -4:50 PR
Taylor Ewert- Beavercreek- 4:49 PR
Juliann Williams- Beavercreek- 5:00 PR
Savannah Roark- Beavercreek 5:01 PR
Faith Duncan- Lebanon 5:06 PR

Add the other 4 girls from the Cincinnati District that all broke 5:00

Maddie Walker West Clarmont 4:57

Hannah Doerger Ursuline 4:59
Maddie Ullom Mason 5:02

Ella Lampert- Turpin 5:04

And add is Samantha Bush at 4:50 from Turpin and you have a regional with 11 girls that could be sub 5:00.

My apologies to everyone. My brain was thinking Region 4 instead of the Dayton District.
