Schools Opt Out of Playing Strong Opponent

I thought this might be of interest for offseason discussion. I lived in the Baltimore region for 20 years. Private schools that historically recruited the best talent in the region are now refusing to play St. Frances Academy after SFA beat the other privates at their own recruiting game. I find it amusing. Here's a link: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/h...606-story.html

That is interesting. High school football in MD is a little different than here in Ohio. The area I'm familiar with, the school system is a county sized entity. So I'm guessing the entire state is that way. Given that they have a much smaller population, thus fewer top athletes, the disparity of talent that can be created by private schools like this, is pretty stark.

CHC would be a little more honest if they just said - sorry but we spent all our money on water poloists and lacrosse players - we were tired of losing to Gilman and Boys Latin. And the Dons should just announce that they don't have enough children of CEOs to field a nationally competitive team in every sport. Both are just making sure that they keep their sissies undamaged for the Turkey Bowl, which, honestly, is the only game that either of them really care about. $$$

Maryland is what the private supporters say that separation in Ohio would look like. Maybe for Eds, Ignatius, X, and Moeller but none of the rest of the state has the juice like the Baltimore & Washington powerhouses do. They're all independent schools run by orders with massive endowments.

Gosh, not sure why no one would want to play what is essentially a professional team. Poggi is personally paying the tuition and room/board for 40 players.

He's a sht person and a sht coach. Less than surprising that he's trying to buy a HSFB MNC.

That's BS. He's not doing anything different from what he did at Gilman. He's just doing it now with less of that Roland Park snobbery ensuring that he brings in the right kind of boys for the cotillions with RPCS and Bryn Mawr. And with a lot less available cash. It's naked racism. Schools that didn't mind getting mauled by Gilman on their way to 13 MIAA titles during the 19 years of his tenure there are suddenly worried about safety? The Panthers aren't any bigger, just blacker.

Ever wonder why Ignatius and Ed's have a difficult time filling their schedules with Ohio teams?

Because Mentor scheduled each of them only once during the regular season. To be the best you have to be willing to play the best. No one else wants to be best, I guess. Same everywhere.

Patently false. The reason he left Gilman is that he wanted to start doing what he's doing now at SFA (hiring players to win a MNC) and the administration said no.

Gilman rarely "mauled" anybody...that's silly. Were they pretty good? Yeah. They were a typical private HS football team...same as the GCL, Iggy or Ed.

He's one of the worst "high profile" HSFB coaches I've ever seen. Watching him call a game was/is painful. At SFA, he's hired enough horses that it doesn't matter.

Poor Iggy poor Eds, lol. I don't disagree but that is true for many teams across All divisions. Your problem is the larger more dominant D1 schools have fewer options. Not many D2 and below need to schedule you people, let alone the small handful of consistent public D1 contenders.

From USA Today:

http://usatodayhss.com/2018/st-franc...ional-schedule

Article mentions it taking place in 2019 schedule not 2018.

In NEO we have seen leagues completely turn their backs on a league member and create a new league because....why?

straight dodging going on here as well. No stone to cast here.

all I can say is those schools that are DODGING most of the time end up being first and second round fodder.

They're playing Glenville instead. Hardly a step down.

You're thinking of the Glenville a decade ago.

Do you really have to ask that? Olentangy is probably the richest school in Ohio. Wayne has very high crime
