Wondering if the Grinch hiring had anything to do with Coombs taking the job

OSU football after Urban Meyer. IMO I think with out Meyer who is an outstanding recruiter OSU football will suffer and no longer will be one of the top 5 teams in the country, and will be more like TTUN. OSU was fortunate that Meyer was from Ohio and wanted the job, just not enough talent in Ohio to compete with the top teams and why would a top coach come to OSU when most of the talent is down south and out west in Calif. Very hard to pry top players from down south to come north, just a testament on how good of recruiter Meyer is.

Looks like Taver Johnson has been hired as Coombs' replacement. He was the DC for Temple and previously coached at OSU as DB coach.

That will obviously depend on who they hire to replace Meyer

Unless Meyer has some sort of scandal force him out, he'll be there another decade at least.

No doubt, that's true for any school. Look at Alabama before Saban.

We got a good one for basketball and I'm sure the one for football will be as good.

Yeah because OSU never recruited nationally before Meyer.

OSU football is a brand...that's why top coaches and players will continue to come.

Any of his kids married yet ?

Parental regrets from workaholics can sometimes morph into high levels of grandparent engagement. I don't expect an abrupt exit again, but it would not surprise me.

When Matt Campbell is ready, Urban can step away. Hopefully not too soon, though. Still another nati to get.

I'd be surprised if Meyer is at OSU in 2028.

I'd be 65 and set. He'll be 65 and even more set. Way more I wouldn't do it. Life is short.

He's a workaholic. Unless he has a heart attack I see him coaching awhile.

Is there any feel for who will be the QB1 in 2018?

Probably. I hope Urban Meyer lets Kevin Wilson tailor an offense to his talents. They'd better not "2015 Cardale" him. He's not JT or Tebow. Haskins will be Urby's last pro-suitable recruit if they mess him over and the scheme selects Martell.

Hopefully Burrow finds a new home.

Agree with all. They are deep in it with a 6'6" high school blue chip pro-style QB from Houston, so let's hope it's Haskins and they do show a much more passer-friendly attack in 2018.

I said it before and I'll say it again; if my kid had pro potential at QB, Urban Meyer has yet to show me any reason to encourage him to be a Buckeye.

That leopard better change his spots or he won't get another title. There will always be a few defenses at the end of the year that can control the power read with enough top athletes on the field at once.

You can say that about nearly every coach then. NFL QBs come from everywhere and you'd be hard pressed to find many that came from the same coach, let alone the same school. USC is about the only school with a high number of NFL QBs recently and they have had a multitude of coaching changes.

By that logic Dantonio is a QB guru with 3 QBs in the league (Cousins, Stanton, Hoyer) or UNC's Fedora with 2 (Yates and Trubisky). And you would never send a kid to Alabama or Ohio State because they don't have starting QBs in the NFL.

NFL QBs are incredibly rare and there just as many out of nowhere guys as their anointed superstars. Half the NFL starters are from mid-tier ACC or SEC schools and a handful come from small-school powers (Grappalo, Went, Flacco, Bortles, Carr). 2 playoff QBs (Smith and Tebow) and a backup (C. Jones) is pretty good for any one coach.

I heard from a current student and who's somewhat affiliated with the program that Burrow it's Burrow job to lose. Burrow's knowledge of the playbook plus his accuracy and touch is much better than Haskin. Haskin has a cannon but Burrow doesnt have a noodle arm either.

I'm sorry but I'm tired of hearing this is a close competition. Haskins looks far superior to the others and is making every throw in the playbook with ease and consistency. Ohio State hasn't had a QB with this kind of throwing talent in my lifetime

OSU is loaded at the QB position. Haskins and Burrows are both impressive throwing the ball albeit a spring game. Where Martell is great at the read option.

Perfect example of confirmation bias. There's no way someone going in without a preference would make such an assertion. Burrow was at least as good if not better.

IMO, it should be Burrow. I'm not completely sold on any of the QBs but I think that Burrow is the most ready.

The kicker is that Burrow will be the starting QB somewhere this Fall. I would really hate to see him lead some other team into the playoffs and the Buckeyes fans shaking their heads wondering why he never got a shot here.

Neopolitan is an unknown quantity at this point
It's the spring game, so take it for what it's worth(next to nothing) but none of the QB's separated themselves.

Haskins clearly has the biggest arm, but struggled with accuracy today.

Burrow was the most consistent with accuracy, but didn't throw the ball down the field much.

Martell was explosive with his legs but looked incompetent throwing the ball.

FWIW, Burrow didn't throw his two TDs until after I posted

I think Burrow is damn good but I stand by my feeling that Haskins is the best passing talent OSU has ever had at the position in my time.

Two predictions: Burrow will start this year at tOSU, and Martell will never start a game for the bucks
