New STVM Head Coach

As Coach Wattley resigned at STVM, who will be next HC? Everything I've heard points to Jeff Rotsky. Or will Boarman come back?

I think Rostky is comfortable at Euclid. He gets everything he wants.

If they hire from within, they could go with Kevin Kelly who coaches the freshmen team. His son graduated a couple of years ago and was quite an athlete for the Irish. I don't know much about him, but what I do hear is very complimentary.

Come on Irish! I am trying to be pleasant here. LOL.

Do you have any idea who will get this job? The Akron U job had to be something special because the Irish are a lock for D3 this year and that would be tough to walk away from.

Speaking as a Buckeye fan, I hope Urban stays in Columbus and doesn't leave for St. V.

He wouldn't want to do that because he'd have to recruit against Hoban's Tyrell

U of A announced today that they are going to focus on recruiting athletes from Ohio in an effort to gain more state funding. Coach Wattley will play a key role in this. There were 8 players this year on the Zipís roster from St V so he and Coach Bowden already have a great relationship. Marcus is a graduate of Copley and is well liked and respected by all of the high school coaches in the area. This move also allows him to take the next step in his coaching career. Great opportunity for him and U of A.

Here's hoping for some stability, unlike what they went through between Cistone and Boarman. Some guys on staff they might be interested.

I'm sorry but I find it hilarious that he will be used in a recruiting role.

Because, he couldn't out recruit Tyrell in his own city?

Understand the humor :-) He will help them on the defensive side of the ball as well. Heck of a defensive coach. You saw that first hand in Massillon the last couple of years.

This is suddenly going to turn into a Massillon and Hoban thread. Ugh. As we speak, every Massillon-SVSM score in history is being researched.

What's Wattley going to do when Bowden loses his job at Akron after next season?

What surprised me was that he left after 2 years. St V is one of the premier coaching jobs in the state, and that’s coming from a Hoban supporter. I would of thought he would have put in 4-5 years minimum before jumping to next level. The opportunity must have been to good to pass up. As far as recruiting Ohio players, Akron already has plenty of local kids from St V, east, Hoban, Coventry ect. Seems to me St V lost a coach prematurely.

First of all, I have never been a Wattley fan as head coach.

Now this is only my opinion on this. Dan Boarman left pretty big shoes to fill. I think Wattley found out being head coach at SVSM was not as easy as it looked. He may not be HC material, at least as far as the pressure goes. Easier to go to UA, clearly a mediocre program, as an assistant. Could be a financial uptick as well.

Just my thoughts.

Sounds logical. I donít know coach or staff personally so I would take your opinion over most.

Youíre certainly entitled to your thoughts and opinions. Not sure how you canít be a fan of his work as a head coach though. Took the team to the playoffs in both years as a coach....and in a year when many didnít think the team would even make the playoffs he took them to the state semi finals. Took his team on the road in week 9 with the season on the line and upset a team that made the D2 semi finals. He loved being the head coach at St V...but when you get an offer to be a D1 NCAA coach thatís too hard to pass up. Those opportunities donít come up every day. Of course itís a financial uptick. He handled the pressure just fine. Iíd understand that line of thinking if he stepped down as a coach and went backwards. Not the case here. Tremendous opportunity at Akron. The players there that just played in the MAC Championship game and in a bowl game would disagree that itís a mediocre program.

Interesting thing is Wattley got the college gig before Tyrell? Guess UA doesn't want to end up on NCAA probation!
