LaSalle vs Colerain

Only a few miles separate these two schools. A lot of people wonder why they don't play each other in the regular season. Some blame it on Colerain some blame LaSalle.. but the fact is these 2 haven't played each other in basketball since 2005? They both seem to be on a hot streak making it this far, but is LaSalle too strong for Colerain? Or will Colerain come out on top? Who will win bragging rights for who knows how long? Both schools are the last left in their conference .

Colerain will have to be really patient in this game if they want to keep it close. Just think the pressure D will be to much for them and will they be disciplined enough to play D for some really long possesions. Im going
LS 53
Colerain 37

I agree. They will both do fine with or without each other.

Colerain is a clear underdog in this game. They do have enough guards, though, to have good stretches against LaSalle's press. The question is will they have any sustained success? Wayne had chances on Saturday but suffered from selfish play at times. Colerain has passed it well all year and even more so in the playoffs. I'm not going to predict a score...I know Colerain has a uphill fight on its hands...if they shoot it like they have in their upsets in the tournament and in the regular season against Hughes and East, they have a chance for an upset.

Kierre Bennie and Kelvin Cook hold the key for Colerain.

If you check the records of the other teams left in the DI Sweet 16, Colerain is the only team left that doesn't have a winning record.

Cleveland State Regional
North Canton Hoover (22-4), Mentor (21-5), Shaker Heights (19-6), North Royalton (23-2)

Columbus Fairground Coliseum Regional
Pickerington Central (19-7), Gahanna Lincoln (21-5), Canton Timken (16-9), Columbus Northland (26-0)

Cincinnati Xavier University Regional
Cincinnati Colerain (13-13), Cincinnati LaSalle (19-7), Cincinnati Walnut Hills (25-1), Springboro (22-4)

Univerity of Toledo Regional
Macedonia Nordonia (22-3), Broadview Heights-Brecksville (22-3), Whitehouse Anthony Wayne (20-4), Toledo Rogers (18-7)

Colerain and La Salle last played in the regionals in 1967 with La Salle winning 70-58, doubt either teams scores that high this time around.

The last time the two teams met was February 8, 2005 at Colerain. I was there at the time and Colerain won all three divisions. Oh my!

LaSalle up 47-40 with one minute left--omg the LaSalle announcers are the 3 biggest "homers" ever! You would think LaSalle never commits a foul.

Three things I took from this game...

1. I saw no intensity from Colerain through the first three quarters. They were a completely different team in the first 6 minutes of the 4th quarter, the first 3/4 of the game they couldn't break the press and put no pressure on LaSalle. I'd love to see a game where they played with that intensity from the beginning, it would've been a lot closer.

2. I am now a fervent supporter of a shot clock in the high school game. The weave may be a strategy to keep the ball out of your opponents hands, however it makes the game completely unwatchable and makes the coach look like he's afraid to play the game.

3. LaSalle fans have quite possibly the lowest basketball IQ of any fans I've seen. Yes, your team got called for more fouls, yes they were earned and honestly there cluldve been quite a few more. Just because their arms went straight up doesn't mean it wasn't a foul, a body foil is just as much of a foul as a hand foul. It was hack a Card all day in the post and most went uncalled so be grateful. Allow me to add that no, Colerain did not commit many fouls, they played an extremely loose defense which is why they struggled for most of the game on the defensive end.

I apologize for any errors in my post, it's difficult to sit in an arena and type a long post on a phone

Sounds accurate--LaSalle announcers called the game like they were being shafted by the refs--if you look on the GCL website LaSalle virtually every game outfouled their opponents--in most games racking up 17-20 fouls. Flemings philosophy is to play aggressive and hope the refs call maybe 1 of 3 fouls--tonight it was called tighter. LaSalle won which shows they can overcome a closely reffed game.

Don't let me forget, legs don't lie coach... I called every Colerain free throw as made or missed off the hands. If you use your legs you're going to make your free throws.

Actually we weren't allowed by OHSAA to do video. But we certainly covered it with a great broadcast. Wish the outcome could have been different.

Great run by the Cardinals! No one expected a run like the one they just completed.

GCL basketball is just painful to watch.

Why is it painful? It wins!!! You check out college basketball recently? That is how a majority of the teams play in college.

No different than Colerain football running the ball 90% of the time.

Colerain had 20 Turnovers, per Cintas Center Scoreboard and Missed some Free Throws. I thought those 2 were the difference tonight even though LaSalle had 15 Turnovers also.
