Barberton Wrestling

Btown goes 4-1 at the Cuyahoga Falls team duals. Only loss to Canfield. They have a couple weight classes waiting for re-certification, so I think the team will be stronger. Beat Cfalls, Hoban, NDCL, and ST Joes.

Congrats to Btown. Do you have overall team scores for each dual coach?

You only beat Hoban by 10? Is that correct?

you are correct

Hoban is much improved...good athletes. Their coach said they were able to get 6 football players out that are athletic, but need experience. They had a nice 138 pounder that Shump beat 4-0. Like I said, Barberton has atleast 2 kids waiting to re-certify that will help out immensly.

Eddie is one of the ones I am referring to. Once he re-certifies and enters the line-up, it will shift some lower weight classes, eliminating some weaker spots.

Upper weights are strong.....
Harvey, Thornton, Tschantz (195), Rowe (220)...in that order. Shump was at 138. The freshman (jr state champ) Vance, looks really tough. I think he was like 152.

Cool, thanks. My boy wrestled him at an open this fall; his length will cause problems for opponents. What weight is he projected to be at?

Luke Vance was the District champ at Brecksville. I believe he was 6th in the state at Youngstown.

Barberton won the Cuyahoga Hts Tourny with over 400 pts.
4 champs, 3 runner ups, a third, and a fourth.

Welcome back to the Suburban League :-)
5 SL teams in region 2-B and just Cloverleaf in 2-A. I understand it's based on Geography but all are NEO teams and within an hour of each other. SL tournament, SL dual, Dies tournament, and sectional. SL wrestlers could wrestle the same opponent FIVE times in one season (or more if you wrestle the same opponent in the championship rounds and then later in the consolation rounds). That could be a good or bad thing for your wrestlers, depending on the opponent, but it's still ridiculous to wrestle the same person that much in one season. /rant

I'm excited to wrestle B-town again though. I would assume they would get seeded 2nd or 3rd (behind Wadsworth, Nordonia grabbing 2nd or 3rd seed) based on the strength of their team this year.

I will have to go with Shump but would not say the end of the world is coming if Smith wins. He is very tough.

Barberton's strength is in there upper weights. Solid in the middle with Shump anchoring it.But, light weights are a little young and rough. They beat Northwest 63-9, 2nite. Won all but 2 matches. They are hard to beat from Harvey thru Rowe, those 4 are all seniors, and almost pin, everytime.

Wadsworth had people scratching their heads prior to the season, but thus far has looked well equipped as a team. In duals tonight: Vs. Tallmadge 80-0, Vs. Revere 61-6.

wads larry

It looks like B-town is looking more and more like they are better equipped for tournaments rather than duals. With the 3 returning state placers back and 2 more dq's in Thornton and Harvey, they have a good chance of qualifiing 5 to state. With the heavy scoring probably coming from Rowe, Shump, and Tschantz. The Knipl/Thornton match should be epic....I heard people saying, Thornton has all 1 period falls, with 1 exception.

Where do you see Shump at for Brecksville, Coach? Old nemesis Zollinger having a heck of a season thus far at 138.

...Remember Larry, which i know you do, Shump was 5th in the state. he would have to be a favorite against zollinger, but they aren't at the same weight class. If memory serves me well, shump rec'd a forfeight last night at 132. I think sophmore Casey Scalf Wrestled 138 and won, last night.

Oh, I gues we won't know then. Mathias pinned Sonny at Brecksville last year though granted Shump was having a short bout of blue funk. At 138 Zollinger is something he wasn't in 2011 while starving to make 120: STRONG. Wins in the last two weeks under his belt include last year's Ohio 3rd place at State, Drew Mcdougle, and the returning WVA State champ plus their runner up.

Like a lot of kids in this neck of the woods, the two boys have wrestled since youth matches wearing trainng-singlets.
