The Official 2017 Cleveland Indians Thread

No time like the present to begin talking about how the Indians can repeat as American League Champions and win the whole thing next year.

Let's start with this: if you had a wish list of what you would to see the front office do to bolster the Indians' chances of winning it all, what would be on it?

cabezadecaballo 12-06-16 07:05 PM

Indians waiting game on Edwin Encarnación seems not to have blown up on them yet.....

Red Sox aren't goofing around.

Anything on the status of Mark Trumbo? He wouldn't be as pricey as Encarnacion. The problem, could it be - and pardon the pun - that he was a one-hit wonder?

Whoops...just saw a report where Trumbo is asking for $80+ million.

The only way the Encarnacion thing "blows up" on the Indians is if they make the mistake of signing him. Toronto had the foresight to get him from Cincy and they had him for his prime, but he's 33 now and expecting him to replicate what he did the last 5 years in Toronto is a mistake. My guess is he starts tailing off in a year or two. Don't overpay Cleveland.

That's Clevelands window, so why shouldn't the sign him?

Not enthused about him over Napoli. He's better than Bautista as an option, I guess - age and character an non-starter with JuBau for me. Trumbo's K:BB sucks and drags down his OPS. Napoli advances more BB/E/1B to second and beyond with his brain, I think. Not sure if there's a solid way to prove that, but it seems that way.

They'll never give him the 4/5 years he wants. That's why he turned up his nose at 3 from Toronto. Taxes there suck, too. I'm not sure if he expected Toronto to move on from him so easily and quickly, but it seems that they have.

Because he won't sign for two years, he wants 4-5.

Jim Lahey 12-12-16 08:44 AM

So? Give him 3-4. A title, or even a return trip or two to the WS, isn't worth paying him a year or two after their window closes?

Raymo 12-22-16 11:08 AM

What's going on with Napoli, waiting for the BIG bucks?:Ohno:

Tribe just signed Encarnacion, so Santana is going to be playing most of the 1B now. Nap's gone....

cabezadecaballo 12-22-16 09:00 PM

If Brantley comes back healthy, this may be the best offense in baseball. :D

tom 48 12-22-16 09:42 PM

He is signed.

What a great move

Raymo 12-23-16 06:11 AM

Great addition for the Tribe,he'll look real good in a Indian uniform...:thumb:

brian1227 12-23-16 06:30 AM

Indians can win it all give Ryan Merritt a chance to start

Raymo 12-23-16 08:40 AM

Just watched his highlights from last year on ESPN,man he looks good hitting HOMERS!...BAM!:Party:

clarkgriswold 12-23-16 09:15 AM

Still in shock. Adding him and a healthy Brantley to last year's lineup makes the Indians a completely different team offensively. Also, in reality, they got him on the cheap.

Me too,let's play ball...BAM! :crush:

Michael Bluth 12-24-16 10:04 AM

Lineup looking good. Would be nice to add one viable SP, peferably lefty, but not many out there and they tend to be exorbitantly priced

cabezadecaballo 01-16-17 01:03 PM

The great Les Levine is discussing Indians' tix on the radio at the moment. Season ticket sales are up, etc, and Les gave me a thought; rather than allow the annual ticket-broker hog-fest for the Home Opener, why not do something different that both helps the organization AND the loyal fans ? Have an Opening Day pre-sale with two conditions - Maximum 4 tickets per buyer, even as a second transaction, and require the purchase of 4 more at a different game in that same series. Joe average will still pay less than he does for broker scalps of Opening Day, and the club will sell more for a chilly series.

Raymo 01-24-17 07:21 AM

Tim Lincecum is looking for work, certainly can go two or three good innings in the American League.

Sig Hansen 02-01-17 09:33 AM

Craziest signing of the off-season:

Indians sign Willy Mo Pena to minor league deal

kent16 02-01-17 11:03 AM

willy moonshot and also acquired Carlos Frias from the dodgers.. Hope they add another lefty to to the pen

They did just that today with Boone Logan. It's a very solid pick up, straight loogy. He can take some heat off Miller during the season.

Wow just saw that great pickup always enjoyed watching him pitch when he was on the yankees... Allows miller to stay in the pen till later in the game.. Huge addition
