Stirred not Shaken 12-04-17 02:39 PM

Justin Ahrens scored 46 pts on 10 0f 15 from 3 pt. range as Versailles def. Celina 69-42.

I agree with your list besides 1. and 2. I'll take Versailles to win the MAC

coldwater basketball

Simple question: Why is Cavalier basketball so consistently middle-of-the pack compared to other league schools? Is it because it's wedged between the twin bell cows of football and baseball? This is not an indictment just a question about the different levels of success of the 3 programs.

They should be better this year as they have had more time than usual to get ready for the season. JUST KIDDING.

I don't know the answer. Coldwater does have wrestling (pretty good too). Who else in the Mac has wrestling? Versailles and Anna?

Delphos St. John's, Coldwater, Versailles and just recently Parkway are MAC wrestling schools.
Anna is only in the MAC in football.

Versailles has one of the best players in the state in Ahrens but I believe the Flyers have the better overall team. ML has all 5 starters back from last season, and should have good pt. guard play this season, something that has been an Achilles heel in the past.

CJK84 12-08-17 06:51 PM

^^^ Flyers should be strong, but four of the five starters are football players who have hardly touched a basketball in the last six months.

Versailles, led by J Ahrens, will be stronger.

Should be some great league contests on Friday nights for the next three months.

Stirred not Shaken 12-16-17 09:33 PM

Marion Local def. Celina 66-38 tonight. Tyler Mescher did not miss a beat from last season as he had a game high 20 pts.

flyinghigh19 12-17-17 12:05 PM

How close is Mescher to 1,000 points? He has got to be close

Good observation. He has 839 pts. coming into this season, with a good year Mescher could finish 3rd and possibly 2nd on ML's career scoring list.

flyinghigh19 12-18-17 10:13 PM

Are there any other players that have a chance at 1,000 this year? Is Ahrens close to any records?

What happened to Celina basketball? They are dreadful this year.

They are short , play hard but lacking in talent from what I saw. ML looked really good though for first night out on the court after only 6 days of practice for the 10 of 12 varsity players.

Stirred not Shaken 12-23-17 06:10 AM

Was surprised Anna def. Minster 64-46. Marion Local won surprising easily over Saint Henry 76-40, I believe the Flyers are the clear favorite to win the MAC.

Never mind.

Lima Shawnee def. Marion Local 57-52. O'Neil and Capella combined for 44 of Shawnee's 57 pts. Indians did a good gob of containing the Flyer's Tyler Mescher ( 18 pts. ) and no one else for ML stepped up. Flyer's committed numerous turn overs and were probably out rebounded, Shawnee out played ML and deserved the win.

Not even through the month of December and every team in the MAC ( except Versailles ) has at least one loss.
At one time MAC basketball was on par with MAC football but it is not even close anymore. Unlike football where MAC teams excel at fundamentals opposite is true for the most part in basketball, even though the MAC has had several D-1 basketball players and quite a few players succeed at the lower levels of college basketball.

Stirred not Shaken 12-31-17 06:57 AM

Going into 2018 this is how I would rate the MAC right now.
1. Versailles
2. Minster
3. DSJ
4. Saint Henry
5. Coldwater
6. Marion Local
7. Fort Recovery
8. New Bremen
9. New Knoxville
10. Parkway

It's because so many of their top basketball players play football, right? How much shooting and dribbling are they all doing between August and November? Athletes are athletes and they eventually get it together....but in basketball, the only way to get better at the little things is with a ball in your hand. Some of those guys who are athletes and lift like warriors...but never touch a ball...well, what would you expect?

BlueJayFan 01-03-18 05:30 PM

Versailles, Minster, Marion Local and DSJ are the top 4 in the MAC

Stirred not Shaken 01-09-18 06:56 AM

This weeks rankings :
1. Versailles : May suffer 1st loss this week to Fort Loramie
2. St. Henry
3. Minster
4. DSJ
5. Coldwater
6. Marion Local
7. Fort Recovery
8. New Bremen
9. Parkway
10. New Knoxville
2-6 are interchangeable, would not even be surprised ML would knock off Versailles if Flyers abandon their man to man defense and play a box and one on Ahrens. Overall the MAC is very mediocre, just take a look at the MAC's non league record against good non league teams.

Stirred not Shaken 01-18-18 06:39 PM

MAC Rankings this week :
1. Versailles clear no. 1
2. St. Henry
3. Minster
4. Marion Local
5. DSJ
6. Coldwater
7. New Bremen
8. Fort Recovery
9. Parkway
10. New Knoxville
Positions 2-3 battle btw. St. Henry and Minster. 4-8 is a toss-up.

With 2 weeks remaining Marion Local is in the driver seat. Moving Nate Bruns to point guard has stabilized the Flyers offense, however ML needs a 3rd scorer for the Flyers to make a long tourney run. SH appears to have 2nd place locked down, Versailles currently 3rd needs to find a consistent offense to go with Ahrens. Minster is a team I thought would be better and maybe will turn their season around in the tournament.

Wait, what MAC are we talking about? I always enjoy taking the day off from gaming to attend a few of the games at the Q. Maybe we can have a yappi meet up?

We are talking the real MAC here. The only one that matters...year after the #1 small school conferences in the country... not some rinky dink half assed college conference. :D
