Temperence Bedford in it. I see they have a hvywgt ranked #8 in the country.

Bad memories of how they won the league (the former Great Lakes League) title my senior year - even though we beat them somewhat easily in the dual match and were undefeated in duals and without a league tourney. Rigged...

I'm not familiar with this tourney, don't recall hearing about it too much in my day but this one looks pretty filled with studs

uofrd 01-08-18 08:10 AM

This tournament is a top 10 regular season tournament in Ohio(arguably top 3-5)...very deep field tougher than a lot of Holiday tournaments this year... looking forward to it!

This tourney basically grew out of the prior Mary Kerr Memorial that was held at Waite in the same time slot (usually the weekend before MLK holiday). When budget cuts at Toledo Public Schools eliminated wrestling for a few years, I believe the Kerr moved over to Clay for a year or two, then became the Mike Casey Memorial and is now the Maumee Bay Classic. That is my recollection - but correct me for errors in my memory.

I haven't missed it in the past 11 years or so (when it was still the Kerr Memorial). The field has been growing every year and Clay has two adjacent full size gymnasiums that have a total of 8 - 10 mats going on the first day. Pretty easy to move between the gyms. Make sure you get the match sheets and pay attention to where the matches will be contested that is displayed by projection in the main gym and on monitors in the upper level of the main gym - and maybe elsewhere.

I don't know the best way for rating tourneys, but it has been one of the top 5 in-season tournaments in Ohio for the past few years and could arguably be 2nd only to Brecksville this year - but I'm biased.

This tournament is one of the toughest and very well run. This tournament gets tougher every year, and Top Gun gets easier every year. Must be a reason State Champs and State Placers are all over these brackets.

NeoKing 01-08-18 09:26 AM

What about Ironman? It’s the best tournament in the state.

Nobody is arguing that it's better than Ironman. It's definitely one of the tougher regular season tournaments, though. Top 5 for sure.

Yes, Maumee is a top tournament, especially with the new teams this year.

Oops - forgot all about Ironman. For some reason I was thinking of it as a pre-season tourney - but that is the Super 32.

Dang, always wondered what early onset of dementia would feel like...

Teddid 01-08-18 08:05 PM

Just realized that there are 3 OSU commits wrestling in this tourney. The Decatur brothers and Jaden Mattox.

Butcher13 01-08-18 09:08 PM

In my opinion Maumee Bay is one of the Top 5 toughest tournaments in Ohio..
1. Ironman
2. Brecksville
3. Maumee Bay
4. Medina
5. Top gun

Tournament is a beast - loved competing in it, miss coaching at it.

What are the chances of this tournament being cancelled due to weather?

Well it's supposed to be 56 degrees tomorrow (Thursday) with 90% chance of precipitation Thursday night with temps dropping down to 32. Don't know how much will be rain and how much will be snow. Supposed to have a high of 35 on Friday. I don't think the issue will be as much what is going on in Oregon as it is for teams traveling from Cleveland area - or from the North like Swartz Creek.

Just checked Cleveland area and doubtful they will see snow through Friday since the temps are not supposed to drop below 43 - even at night - through Friday night.

Looks like it should be ok for the tourney barring any changes to the forecast.

Wrastlinmachine123 01-11-18 07:48 AM

when will seeds be out?

bubbariggs 01-11-18 10:41 AM

Does anyone know if this tournament will be streamed on Flowrestling?

I checked FloArena and don't see it listed. Check Trackwrestling - I know it is being covered by them for the live bracket updates and on the dashboard. I think they also had videos last year.

tkdn_wizard 01-11-18 10:58 AM

We were able to check and follow matches live on Track last year while we were at another tournament.

OCEagle 01-11-18 11:04 AM

4 teams with full line-up of 14
4 with 13
8 with 12
11 with 11
Teams with 7 or less = 10

Rosters aren't out yet to show which weights have the least number of wrestlers. Some of the surprises with low numbers - Archbold (6) Defiance (6) Delta (7) Springfield/Holland (6); Tiffin Columbian (8) Fremont Ross (8).

Could be that some of these teams are leaving inexperienced wrestlers off the squad for this tourney. Some surprising numbers - and may be similar for other teams I am not familiar with.

Mr.Observer 01-11-18 12:07 PM

I know last weekend Fremont had a full line-up at the JC Gorman (a 36 team tourney) with the exception of Chapman. Columbian's coach said they were leaving their inexperienced at home last weekend and this one to allow them entry into some smaller tourneys.

Mr.Observer 01-11-18 12:09 PM

That being said I believe this tourney has vaulted to number three behind Ironman and Brecksville. This should be an awesome weekend of wrestling for those who love the sport and competition!

They did have video last year on trackwrestling, I expect the same this year as a fan, can anyone confirm?

Stick with Ohio kids because some of those WV state champs wouldnít be placers in Ohio

As the Tournament Director I would like to thank everyone for the kind words about our tournament. We are blessed to have a wonderful school and wrestling program to help things run smoothly.

To answer some of the above questions...

Weather: The Tournament will go forward as planned. We intend to keep the regular schedule as close as possible. We understand that travel on Friday morning is the biggest hurdle and we will try to accommodate those traveling.

Video: Yes all 8 mats will have live streaming through TRACKCAST

The competition looks great and we look forward to some awesome wrestling over the next two days.

Wrastlinmachine123 01-12-18 06:52 AM
