Fantasy Football questions/advice thread

Let's use this thread for questions, thoughts and opinions throughout the fantasy football season.

Anyone draft a team yet? I drafted the 1st of 3 teams last night, I'd appreciate your thoughts.

QB: Brees, Stafford
RB: Miller, Hyde, Jones, Abdullah, Michael
WR: Brown, Beckham, Floyd, Parker, Austin, Gordon
TE: Reed
K: Gostkowski
D: Rams

This is a 3 keeper league and I've been fortunate to have Brown and Beckham on my team for the last 2 years.

TheDude 08-29-16 08:43 AM

Looks pretty solid to me. My first team was chosen. 8 team league. Round selected after the player. It is a PPR league with 1 pt per catch so WRs and TEs are more valuable.

QB: Brady (7), Bortles (9)
RB: J. Charles (4), Forte (6), Langford (10), R. Matthews (11)
WR: J. Jones (1), B. Cooks (3), R. Cobb (5), G. Tate (8), Diggs (14), Shepard (15)
TE: Gronk (2), Gates (12)
K: Gano (16)
D/ST: Cardinals (13)

Frank Underwood 08-29-16 09:45 AM

I like Diggs and Shepard in the 14th and 15th rounds. Dude, is Ware available in your league? Might be a good handcuff/insurance should Charles not come back 100%.

TheDude 08-29-16 10:24 AM

Yeah i think they have a chance to make some noise, especially Shepard. Ware is available, i might have to get Matthews out of my roster, but i dont want to make any moves too early. He is definitely on my radar to pick up.

In the midst of a 12 team PPR email draft. Had the 8th pick and took AJ Green and got Dez on the comeback at 17. Now just waiting for these people to not take multiple hrs for every pick

James Cramerica 08-29-16 11:53 AM

An email draft? Sounds like the worst idea ever.

Jhubbs77 08-29-16 11:57 AM

Eh, it works for online leagues where you have no idea what everyone's schedules are. Plus I co-manage this team with my brother and I don't really like trying to argue who to take with someone else in 90 seconds

Pretty darn good team. I like that you have RB that are good pass catchers out of the backfield and don't necessarily come off the field on 3rd down.

Only cause to worry for me is if Charles can't make it back close to the level he was.

Bortles is a great plug and play until Brady returns.

Spille 08-29-16 03:04 PM

One league I was in used to start the draft days before we were all supposed to meet in hopes of getting most of the draft done. It worked for the most part, but there were always a couple whom you had to wait 10-12 hours before they could pick, even though they were given notice it was their turn immediately.

This was my goal with the PPR. I tried to get guys that werent necessarily in a 2 back system as well, but you never really know how that will go until they start playing.

Okrent's Law: "Nothing is more interesting than you own fantasy team, and there is nothing LESS interesting that someone else's fantasy team."

Really struggling with where its worth it to stash Gordon for 4 weeks

Frank Underwood 08-30-16 06:47 AM

Someone picked him up in the 7th or 8th round in my draft about 2 weeks ago (irritated we drafted that late out). Also irritated I got a text at 1015 last night saying my other draft is tonight out in West Chester. 22 hours notice is always nice.

I don't really like my team. I'm not a fan of 12 team drafts.

QB: Palmer Round 6
WR: Hopkins (1) Decker (4) John Brown (6) Lockett (7) Michael Thomas (10) Sammie Coates (12)
RB: Charles (2) Hyde (3) Yeldon (8) Ware (11)
TE: Gates (9)
Def Minnesota (13)

Gotta pick up a kicker. I don't like that Decker is my number 2 WR. Forgot Gates was suspended. :wallbang:

Antonio Gates? I don't believe that he is suspended. He was suspended for the first 4 games of last season, but not this year.

Frank Underwood 08-30-16 10:20 AM

Oh, dope. Nevermind. Still don't like my team that much.

I grabbed him in round 11 of one league and in another he went in the 7th.

Smart to handcuff Charles with Ware. Hope Gates can continue to play at a high level but maybe there is a better option on your wire. I agree on your 2nd QR, but Decker it seems scores a TD every game he plays.

Spille 08-30-16 10:59 AM

Had the 2nd of 3 drafts last night, had the last pick in a 12 team league with a snake draft.

QB: Carr
RB: Bell, Hyde, Langford, Gordon, Abdullah
WR: Hopkins, Benjamin, Matthews, Parker, Diggs, Boyd
TE: Reed
K: Hauschka
D: Vikings

I was happy to hear that Bell had 1 of his games dropped from his suspension.

I'm honestly most worried about QB but there was a run of QBs and Palmer was the best of the bunch. Hopefully he's got one more year left.

Actually like Bortles more than Brady for fantasy purposes this year anyway

Don Flamenco 08-30-16 02:26 PM

One guy I'd keep an eye out on is CJ Spiller. He's gone largely undrafted and has been hot on the waiver wire the last few days. Supposedly he's going to be playing a lot more than people think. I did notice he took a lot of first team reps with the Saints the other night.

Two QB's I like who I think have some real upside this year are Winston and Tannehill. I think Winston could put up huge numbers. He has some real nice talent around him.

Abdullah could be a real sleeper if the Lions decide to fully utilize him and quit toying so much with a low level guy like Reddick. Reddick should never steal a carry from him and with Abdullah's speed, I think he could be every bit, if not a better 3rd down back than Reddick.

I think you're probably good with Decker as your #2. I'm in a 12 team standard league and I ended up getting Demaryius Thomas as my #2 in the 4th round. I'm a little worried about that one with their QB situation, but the available WR's after him were brutal.

Don Flamenco 08-30-16 02:36 PM

Thoughts on Kevin White and Tajae Sharpe? I took them in the 9th and 10th rounds. Probably reaches for both, but I like taking some chances every year on a few rookies because I'm in a 3 player keeper league. I hit it big last year when I got Todd Gurley in the 5th.

bedevil 08-30-16 03:13 PM

QB - Andrew Luck (5)
Derek Carr (10)
Jameis Winston (16)

RB - Eddie Lacy (2)
C. J. Anderson (3)
Matt Jones (7)
Frank Gore (8)

WR - Julio Jones (1)
Mike Evans (4)
Kelvin Benjamin (6)
Sterling Shepard (11)
Mohamed Sano (15)

TE - Coby Fleener (9)
Dwayne Allen (12)

D/ST-Carolina (13)

K - Mason Crosby (14)

Not thrilled, not ready to climb out on a ledge.

I like Kevin White. I understand he's struggling a bit but the talent is there to make a splash and you could strike fantasy gold with him. Two years ago, I entered a brand new league and Beckham went undrafted as a rookie. I picked him up 2 weeks into the season and the rest is history. 25 years of playing fantasy and it's the best pickup I've ever made, along with Deangelo Williams breakout season with Carolina when he just went bonkers. Grabbed him in the 16th and final round that year. You just never know. Point is, it's worth taking a shot on guys in the later rounds.

Another WR I'm hearing good things about is Will Fuller. He's starting to be picked up off the wire in many leagues.

I like it, looks pretty solid, certainly a team you can be more than competitive with. I think Carr will be in the 30-35 TD range this year and if Luck bounces back you have some good trade bait. WR are solid and Fleener at TE will have easily his best year ever as a pro. Brees will find him often.

Frank Underwood 08-31-16 09:25 AM

Had my second draft last night. 10 team, one keeper where you give up your pick 2 rounds before. So drafted a guy in the 3rd last year and you wanna keep him, give up your 1st round pick. I luckily picked up David Johnson as a free agent last year which means he was my 13th round pick this year. I loaded up on WRs and RB, rolling with one QB and TE. 2 extra roster spots that we didn't draft which I'll use on a kicker and I'll probably go defense based on match ups that week. We'll see how that works out.

QB: Blake Bortles (7)
WR: Deandre Hopkins (1) Mike Evans (2) TY Hilton (4) John Brown (6) Michael Thomas (10) Markus Wheaton (11)
RB: Matt Forte (3) Matt Jones (5) Rashard Jennings (8) Bilal Powell (9) David Johnson (13) CJ Spiller (14)
TE: Martellus Bennett (12)

TheDude 08-31-16 11:50 AM

Wheaton will be a good choice IMO with Bryant out all year.
