OSHAA Competitive Balance

This has been 8 years coming. But, will it really level or balance the playing field in these particular sports?

Shouldn't have any effect in Girls soccer. Only 3 divisions. D1 can't move up.

Bucknut3 05-14-17 08:05 PM

It may effect schools like Summit who dominate the lower divisions but will have difficulty competing D1 if the get moved up in the future.

They may at some point move to D2 but thats doubful, not sure they want to get any bigger. You are correct that they would have a more difficult time in D2 (Alter, McNick, Indian Hill, Dayton Carroll etc.)

Yes. Summit could eventually be moved to D2, but D1 would be nearly impossible.

SW Ohio Division 2 is a gauntlet, though.

As usual, you know more than everyone else.

I didn't even say every team was good. There are a bunch of evenly matched teams in Cincinnati and Dayton. 2 of the last 3 division 2 state champs have been from SW Ohio. It's difficult to get out of the region. For that reason, yes. It's a gauntlet.

buckshooter5 05-16-17 08:04 AM

Hard to type, still LMAO!

2016- 4 teams in the Final coaches poll Top 10 and D2 State Champion
2015- 3 teams in the Final coaches poll Top 10
2014- 2 teams in the Final coaches poll Top 10 and D2 State Champion

So, at least recently, Ammtd's statement seems to hold true. I don't think any other region can compare in D2.

I'm sure Bucky will disagree..

Since girls’ soccer went to 3 divisions in 2011, the semi-finalists and champion schools in D3 have been:

Public: Archbold, Ontario, Oak Harbor, Ottawa Glandorf, Kirtland, Chippewa (2), Grandview Hts, Lynchburg Clay

Private: Laurel, Bishop Fenwick (3), Summit Country Day (4), Hawken (2), Badin (2), Elyria Catholic, Gilmour, Cincinnati Country Day

Champions have all been Private in D3: Summit Country Day (2), Bishop Fenwick, Badin (2), Gilmour

15 times a private school made the final four and 9 times a public school made it. All 6 times, the championship has been won by a private school.

The region with Archbold, Ontario, Oak Harbor, Ottawa Glandorf and Chippewa has always produced a Public final four team. (I am guessing no small Private schools good in soccer in their region).

However, in next year’s Competitive Balance formula, of the Privates, only Summit Country Day (146 upped to 183) and Elyria Catholic (143 upped to 180) will be D3.

For Publics, Ontario and Oak Harbor moved up to D2 previously and stayed. All others will be D3 next year.

Moving 5 good private soccer programs (Bishop Fenwick, Hawken, Baden, Gilmour, Cincinnait Country Day) will make D2 more of a challenge.

Quick note: Fenwick was division II last year.

D2 is a joke, competitive matches tend to happen late in the tourney, other than that, yawn fest. I say get rid of D2 and D3. Stop trying to protect kids from better competition. They will be alright. Mum and Dad might be a lil butt hurt, but the kids will be fine.

That's not specific to D2.

Irwin20 05-18-17 07:55 AM

Yeah those Colerain/Mason, Glen Este/Oak Hills matchups are intense.

kmac57 05-21-17 11:42 AM

Well Buttshooter really is apt name for him. Comments seem to emanate from his posterior.
