Brush 63 Garfield heights 60

Wow that a suprise,great win.

Bball216 01-07-18 07:04 PM

Great win for Brush. Very surprising. It shows that Garfield is beatable and it also shows that Mentor might be the 4th best team at the Euclid District behind Solon, Benny and Brush.

That's a huge win for them.

That makes their game against rival Mayfield on Tuesday night all the more exciting.

How do you know what teams are in what districts?

Myron 01-07-18 10:19 PM

8 D-1 players in Sonny’s stable. What’s that say about the talent that Brush must have then???

Some discrepancy about regionals. OHSAA site has Canton vs Strongsville in Toledo. This site has Elyria vs Strongsville

Solon beat Brush by 25 just after Christmas (100-75). I don't know what, if anything, that would mean in a potential matchup between the Comets and Garfield. Solon would certainly be at a significant size disadvantage vs. the Bulldogs but just going by the comparative score, it would be an interesting game. I hope we get the chance to find out at the CSU regional. :)

Does anyone know when Brison Waller will be back for Garfield Heights? I know he had injuries, but I didn't know how bad.

The seeding at the Euclid District will be interesting.

Sonny Johnson isn't too worried about the loss :)

Thatís incredibly insecure that he feels compelled to post something like that

People thought I was a hater when I said Garfield would be in trouble if it come down to a close game and Sonny had to coach. I'm sticking to my guns. Shaker in the district final will be a you know what. IF Garfield gets past Shaker I really doubt they leave CSU.

So he didn't have to coach when Garfield won close games against Benedictine, Shaker Heights, and St. Vincent-St. Mary? Did you forget about those games, or did you omit them from the discussion since they don't support your "unbiased" argument?

Also, it's probably worth keeping in mind that Garfield hasn't had one of their best big men for a few weeks. Assuming he does come back and play at 100% (or close to it) come playoff time, he adds an important dimension to the Bulldogs that they're largely missing right now. They've still beaten the aforementioned SH and SVSM without him, though.

Bball216 01-08-18 09:24 PM

Playoffs are A LOT different than the regular season. We all saw what Shaker did to them before Guess got hurt. I'm just saying Garfield for all the hype they get ( and create themselves) are very beatable.

Not sure exactly but it should be soon. He was in uniform and went through warmups yesterday.

Bball216 01-09-18 06:43 AM

I would like to correct my statement. Garfield is beatable, not very beatable. You still need to play a hell of a game against them to win. The team has the most talent in NE Ohio on that roster and Waller will be a big shot in the arm.

cardzfan1234 01-09-18 12:54 PM

Great win for Brush. For all of those reminding us how talented Sonny's team is, don't sell Brush short. They have three players in their starting lineup who will be DI college basketball players. There is more talent on Brush than any team at the Euclid district. Their starting backcourt has offers from Kent, CSU, YSU, Robert Morris, etc. Big sophomore John Hugley has more offers than them. This team might not be quite at the talent level of Garfield, but their top players aren't too far behind.

As noted, Garfield is still playing without their starting big man.

And Garfield hasn't made any deep playoff runs in recent years? :Ohno:

He didn't get hurt, he cramped up, possibly because Shaker was pressing literally the entire game.

Garfield has earned a lot of that hype because of its roster and because of its recent postseason success. I wouldn't exactly say that they're "very" beatable...one team has done it thus far.

Mr. Red Raider 01-09-18 10:20 PM

I heard Brush had a close win about Mayfield tonight.

I gotta give props to the job that Bob Pacsi's doing over there at Mayfield. I think that they'll be at #6 at best in the Euclid District, and maybe #5 if they win their conference, but nonetheless, they are really impressing so far.

Problem with the team isn't the coach. He is now 3-1 in close games this year against top 15 teams in the area and did just fine at CSU last 3 years with 2 trips to CBus and an OT loss to a more talented Ed's team.

The problem appears to be chemistry and new players, transfers, hold overs and a freshman learning how to play with each other. (excluding the injured player).

This team could get beat as early as the district semifinals or win the state championship. That depends on if they learn to play together and get some chemistry by the time it counts. At a minimum at least the Solon District is finally pretty legit again.
