Kentucky Derby

Anyone going to Oaks or Derby?

Arrogate 05-02-19 08:16 PM

These may change due to weather/track bias etc

8 belles- i foaled out Queen of Beas. Will be pulling for her and is very special to me. Lyrical Lady and Break even seem logical. Will likely try to beat Baffert's Mother Mother

Edgewood- newspaperofrecord is probably the best female turf horse out there. First start of the year. Maybe her stablemate Cambier Parc if you want to try and beat her

Alysheba- McKinzie. Maybe use Prime Attraction and Tom's D'Etat as backups. Firmly against Seeking the Soul coming back from Dubai

La Troienne- somewhat against Blue Prize, spreading this race. I think 3 and 9 seem logical. Stingers will be 4,5,7. May use the 1 as well. Weak edition of this race.

Race 9- American Tattoo will be my main play. Solid Wager will be juiced lol....if Kirk Herbstreits gets in he will be tough and likely fav

Turf Sprint- World of Trouble. Will try to get Bound for Nowhere out of exacta and tri. Kind of like Will Call and Angaston

Oaks- will try to beat Bellafina, if she beats me so be it. I like some prices here. Lady Apple, champagne anyone, out for a spin, and restless rider will be on my tickets. If Dunbar Road gets in I will use her

Not going to make it down this year, unfortunately.

Fort some reason I feel a really weird vibe for the Derby. It's been a tough spring for the sport and with Omaha Beach scratching I just don't feel the energy. I will still watch but it just doesn't feel the same as the most recent ones.

Exactly. No buzz or excitement this year.

Arrogate 05-03-19 03:22 PM

Cummings should have come down after the start. Cant believe there isnt an inquiry

EagleGuy 05-03-19 06:43 PM

Working half a day tomorrow, but plan to join the docs again this year to watch on tv. Just glancing at the odds (I know nothing), it looks like the winner could be one of several horses/jockeys. Upset this year?

clarkgriswold 05-03-19 07:08 PM

A huge field and bad weather create problems a lot of those horses haven't seen.

clarkgriswold 05-04-19 12:20 PM

1) Game Winner
2) Win win win
3) Tax

Track looking worse and worse as the race approaches.

Auggie 05-04-19 06:14 PM

An Instant replay delay comes to horse racing.

Kentucky Derby

And they take him down. 1st time ever. Actually a good thing for horse racing as it will be at the top of the news the next couple days.

Wow. Didn't think they'd do it.

War of Will made a questionable move earlier, got cut off, came back to almost even then got his doors blown off. I don't see that it much impacted any other horse.

Curious to hear Arrogate's take.

OhioBobcatFan06 05-04-19 06:32 PM

The more they showed it, the more it seemed clear he really swung out wide... but I know nothing of horse racing rules so I agree 100% with Turpin’s take, whatever it is

Arrogate 05-04-19 06:38 PM

That just cost me

Gutted. On the verge of the biggest score of my life to feeling sick.

Arrogate 05-04-19 07:00 PM

I still cant believe what just happened. I know most here dont understand but that was wild.

clarkgriswold 05-04-19 07:07 PM

Well, the NFL likes the outcome as its replay system is now looking a little faster.

Has that ever been done before ?

That Jody MacDonald on CBS radio New York was saying that his favorite expert, a guy that studies horses back as far as their lineage goes, told him Country House had THE best breeding of any horse in the race. Yet 65:1 ? Why ? Was the horse considered too young or something ?

Arrogate 05-04-19 07:23 PM

Tacitus was probably the most "regally bred" horse.

He was pretty slow by all speed fig makers, post 20, didnt win a prep race, only hit the board once in three Derby prep races, losing by 6+ lengths in the Ark derby and LA Derby.

All of Pats tweets on this thread sum it up how they diverted from the rules

They just ruined the Derby till Kingdom come.

Yappi 05-04-19 08:00 PM

I guess I turned the station after the race a little too quickly.

They ruined horse racing.
Definitely wonít watch Preakness or Belmont this year.
Never went to Derby, went often to other races at Churchill Downs. Never again.

Raider6309 05-05-19 05:22 AM

As a racing fan it’s not a foul if you are in 1st. You can’t call this racing if that is a foul

The seven clearly went three lanes over to cut off the one who was challenging. Youíve got to have some rules. What I donít like is the one is not the team that objected.

Arrogate 05-05-19 07:31 AM

As someone who probably only watches the derby i can see how you have that opinion
