Big Ten 2017

How did they fare in week 1?
Maryland was impressive.

Crusaders 09-02-17 05:00 PM

Florida turning the ball over is helping Michigan a lot right now

Chop Stix 09-02-17 06:52 PM

Michigan's defense was tremendous today. Considering the 4 points the refs robbed Michigan of, 2 missed FGs and the two pick 6s, Michigan could've easily won this game by double the margin.

Yappi 09-03-17 01:38 AM

Overall, not bad...

Minnesota 17, Buffalo 7
Ohio State 49, Indiana 21
Washington 30, Rutgers 14
Wisconsin 59, Utah State 10
Illinois 24, Ball State 21
Iowa 24, Wyoming 3
Michigan State 35, Bowling Green 10
Penn State 52, Akron 0
Maryland 51, Texas 41
Northwestern 31, Nevada 20
Michigan 33, Florida 17
Louisville 35, Purdue 28
Nebraska 43, Arkansas State 36

The good news is the bottom feeders of the B1G looked much improved, (Maryland, Purdue and Rutgers)

eastisbest 09-04-17 01:22 PM

Rare that coaching changes work so well. All young. Durkin been impressive since his time at BG. Purdue would gladly compete for a higher bowl every five years, losing record every few years as long as they get to keep their QB tradition. They hired perfectly for the latter. If they improve the former: bonus. Don't know anything about Ash except he's from Radar's hometown and has been just about everywhere. Seems an odd path to jump into a Big10 head coaching job but NJ-NY have serious talent that's been leaking to other places. His effect there should be interesting.

Meyer's coaching tree expanding. He definitely gets credit for Durkin. Ash might be a bit of a stretch, how long was he at OSU?

Taco MacArthur 09-05-17 06:08 AM

Nebraska giving up 36 to Arkansas State isn't a good look going forward.

2 years, IIRC.

Does Maryland's win say more about the Terps or less about the long horn program?

The big ten is about the same. Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and a bunch of also rans. The big ten is simply weak, and we still don't know by the end of the season if teams can compete nationally or not. Just no tests.

eastisbest 09-05-17 07:46 PM

Iowa and Wisky also rans?

Four top ten teams, sound pretty weak. Next best is the ACC with two.

The bolded part applies to literally every team in college football. I honestly can't tell if you've even paid attention to college football in the last 10 years. The Big 10 is weak argument is not credible.

eastisbest 09-06-17 04:51 PM

How does one support that they're strong? Impression is that they generally lose more bowls than they win. How is their overall record against other P5 conferences? There are regularly MAC teams that would land middle or sometimes higher in the conference. B10 top to BOTTOM hasn't been that good. This year as Yappi mentioned, seems might be different. Some very competitive OOC games by the bottom teams against very good OOC.

the polls are a joke, any think OSU is the #2 team in the country anymore? Maybe top 20? If they played in the SEC or ACC they'd lose 3-4 games this season.

Interesting. You make your point after the fact. You also changed your argument from losing 3-4 games EVERY season to losing 3-4 games THIS season. Putz.

If the Buckeyes were in the SEC/ ACC every season, they'd lose 3-4 games.

Taco MacArthur 09-11-17 09:08 AM

OSU would have had 5 losses in 2014 if they weren't in the easy Big 10. So unfair for the SEC and ACC teams.

Crusaders 09-11-17 09:32 AM

If OSU can't win it I'm pulling for a Maryland Cinderella story

Again the argument changes, yet just as moronic and baseless as the last two.

nwwarrior09 09-11-17 09:23 PM

ACC? 14Red has to be just about the only person who thinks that league's any good outside of FSU and Clemson.

It kills me when big ten fans punk the ACC for their football...you take out OSU/ Mich and Penn State this year the big ten stinks. And I'm an Indiana fan...

WinstonSmith 09-12-17 02:38 PM

IU is a solid team, ask VA.

IU is better than they were 10 years ago, but they are not a top 1/2 big ten team. They have a few guys, in certain positions, that are NFL caliber, but largely, they don't have depth. Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, MSU all have better depth than IU. Virgina is to the ACC, what IU is to the big ten, a lower level league team that has 0 shot at ever winning the league.

WinstonSmith 09-12-17 03:09 PM

The point is they're a mid level Big 10 team but still solid. No surprise that went over your head.

Wow so you're saying if you take away the top 3 teams in a conference, that conference isn't as good? Lol how did you make it past Yappi registration?

Although Duke has been respectable recently, the Blue Devils regressed to 4-8 last year (plenty of reasons/excuses). And, they are picked to finish next to last in their weak division. The Northwestern game aside, Duke (led by a second year QB) still has yet to prove its resurgence as a good team. Nothing against NW - a team I like - but it's possible the Cats are just bad. Time will tell.

as i recall those three teams mich, osu , penn st, which was basically the top of the big ten all went down during bowl season last year. that leads me to believe the big ten was highly overrated and those three arent very good

Interestingly, I remember the SEC West doing something similar. The SEC must be highly overrated and not very good either.

Take out Clemson, FSU, and Louisville and the ACC stinks.

Take out Oklahoma and the Big 12 stinks.

Take out Stanford, USC, and Washington and the Pac 12 stinks.

Take out Alabama, LSU, and Georgia and the SEC stinks.

What idiotic point are you trying to make now?
