Favorites, best players, etc.

My list

1. Jackson
2. Hoover
3. McKinley
4. Lake
5. Glenoak
6. Green
7. Perry

Lake has their first game at Ursuline this Friday 12/2.
I will start a thread with their schedule and keep it updated throughout the season. I expect Lake to be about a 14 win teams this year. Not as good as the past few years, but still solid.

Your pre-season poll looks good. Hoover beat Mentor in a scrimmage last week and open up the regular season @ home Dec. 6th against Richmond Hts.

Good luck to all teams!

Its Jackson and everyone else this year.

I've thought that before, and it hasn't happened.

That's got to suck for you, huh? Sure you'll be there when/if they lose.

WhatsupDoc 12-04-16 08:24 AM

Should be a good League this year Jackson should be the favorite. They've had the top talent for the last 4 or 5 years it that doesn't mean everything l.
Lake is very well coached and always see to over achieve.
I think this is Hoover's best shot at doing something. They have a bunch of experience and talent. This is Coach Blackledge's 3rd year so the players should understand his system. McKinley will always be McKinley, I think they lost a lot but they always have talent coming.
Good Luck All

Canton McKinley - 85
Perry - 55

North Canton Hoover - 66
Canton GlenOak - 49

Lake - 51
Green - 33

Tough start for the new coaches at GlenOak and Perry.

Hoover 1-0
Lake 1-0
McKinley 1-0
Jackson 0-0
GlenOak 0-1
Green 0-1
Perry 0-1

I'll add the league records in the top post and try to keep up with it. I'd also like to have the overall records and I will need help with that. Any help would be appreciated!

Do you want all scores for the Fed teams posted or just the league games?

Today Jackson beat Firestone 73-39 to go to 1-0.

afwpatfire 12-10-16 06:15 PM

All would be great, thanks Mack

afwpatfire 12-10-16 09:54 PM

Lake 48
New Philadelphia 39

Hoban 46
Glenoak 42

bluesteel4 12-10-16 11:06 PM

I thought Glenoak was supposed to be good this year. Welcome to D1 Mr Hack.

They had only one player return with varsity experience from last year. Both Hoover and Hoban are top 25 teams in the area. What did you expect?

They were not doing well last night. Half the team had to go change clothes in the first quarter(including 2 players who were on the floor) because they were wearing undershirts that didn't match the uniform and one of the refs noticed.

Several of the players were routinely shoving players from the other team after the whistle.

Just looked very undisciplined.

It more making the move from to Glenoak as referenced by the poster above. The kids don't have the same makeup as the STA kids.

Agreed. Totally different environment and player mentality. Does this mean it is easier to coach at a private school where there is more control over the type of kids you attract/accept?

afwpatfire 12-11-16 11:24 AM

Easier, but less money

I was at the game. If Hoban is a top 25 team then there aren't 25 good teams in NEO. They weren't impressive at all. Neither team had any size at all.

WHBC has released their broadcast schedule for this season.

Most games are over the air, but a few will be streaming on www.whbc.com

McKinley coach Rick Hairston said the Bulldogs play one of the toughest schedules in Ohio.

I did some research and here are the teams better than us...

Jackson(Could be state champions)
Akron SVSM(A top team in the state)
Warren Harding(A top team in the state)
Iggy(A top team in the state)
Toledo St Johns Jesuit(A top team in the state)
Mentor(A top NEO team in the state)
Hoover(A top NEO team in the state)

We play Jackson and Hoover twice.

Other good teams we play...

Lake(We play twice)
Solon

That is 12 losses right there.

I say McK goes 7-5 or 6-6 in those 12 games.

You also have to remember that Hoban has only been practicing for a week.

2/3 of the team wasn't playing basketball before last Sunday because of football.

Will more practice somehow make them bigger?

No, but they will play better together with more time spent together on the court.

Did they not play together all summer?

I don't know for sure, but I would guess most of them probably did not.
