From what Iíve seen this year so far including the Classic is that the DI champion is more than likely coming from SW Ohio or PC, Coffman. I donít know what Region the Columbus area schools are in and I donít feel like looking it up at the moment. 😬

Having said this I know anything can happen and much BB yet to be played.

Anyone else see good NEO teams this season and attend the Classic - what do you think?

bmcphers7 01-15-18 10:14 PM

Some good teams from NEO: Youngstown Ursuline, Gilmour Academy, West Branch (Don't know how far they can make it), Solon, Stow, Wadsworth, Canton McKinley, Massilon Jackson, Warren Howland, Akron Saint V., Garrettsville Garfield (they have a outstanding freshman Guard her name is Grace Mills), Chippewa, Cornerstone Christian, Jackson Milton,Canfield, Newton Falls there are a bunch more that are good. Not saying all these teams will make a deep run come tourney time, but there are some good teams & players in NEO..

Pretty sure any list including the best teams from NEO, at least if you're including all divisions, has to have Hiland on it. They have four losses, but guarantee they have one of the best out of conference schedules in the state for Div. 3 or 4 this year (playing all really good Division 1 teams outside of one game). I would be surprised if they don't go deep in the Division 3 Tourney. I find it really funny how the AP has them listed as the 13th best team in Division 4 (even though they are in Div. 3 this year).

crudog 01-16-18 10:25 AM

I agree that there are quite a few good teams in NEO. I have seen many of the ones you listed. The thoughts on my initial post were regarding DI only. After having watched what appears to be the best NEO DI teams, at this stage of the season, it seems to me that the best teams overall are located near Columbus or further South. I would prefer all State champions come from NEO, but Iím not sensing that this year in DI.

D-1 Canton Mckinley (12-1), Solon (12-2), Wadsworth (12-2), Stow (13-1)
D-2 Gilmour (11-2)

Those are the best teams that have a shot to make it to columbus

Such a silly mistake- divisions are listed on OHSAA website for the year. Surprised the local paper/reporter didn't catch it

I was fortunate to get to go to Berlin this weekend and see a number of games.

Saw Mount Notre Dame lose to Solon in a close one both teams looked good
Lakota west (Good but trouble making baskets outside of transition layups) beat Canton Glenoak (not real strong) and beat up Wadsworth(easy road to state)
Kettering Fairmont lose to Toledo Notre Dame (ok), Kettering beat Westerville in OT, looked their best with Westbeld on the bench fouled out (she is a nice player but something weird with the chemistry, 3rd time I have seen them)
Newark beat Wayne in OT, Wayne should have won (both are good) Wayne looked so much better with their aggressive defense, still struggles to make shots. Defense got to Newark
Mason(Good) beat Gilmore (revenge game for Gilmore) in a close one, Gilmore (Good)was down 27-18 at half but put on a run. Mason beat up Solon, Solon was never really in it.

D1 no clear favorite but I agree Cincinatti/Dayton appears as a very Strong Region.

coach5 01-16-18 05:51 PM

Canton McKinley is in the Medina District with Wafsworth.
Certainly not an easy road

BBall Fax 01-16-18 07:07 PM

One good team

One good team to beat is an easy path at least in my opinion. The overall quality is not that strong, but time will tell.

I'm inclined to agree that the favorite for the D1 title is a SWO/Columbus team. But, unless if there is re-bracketing, the winners of the Columbus and Cincinnati regions will play in the semi-finals. Anything can happen in one game!

Great point about the bracketing - it will be to someoneís benefit and to someone elseís demise.

District information...scroll down on right...have to click on each District to get list of teams

http://www.ohsaa.org/sports/girlsbas...tournamentinfo

D1 NEO Districts/teams

http://nedab.org/wp-content/uploads/...etball_vs4.pdf

Regional/State

http://www.ohsaa.org/Portals/0/Sport...w-Brackets.pdf

By the way, it appears there are some inconsistencies between the District and OHSAA websites.

I would add Jackson to D1 list

crudog 01-27-18 08:33 PM

I would agree. Jackson started slowly and now seems to have regrouped somewhere along the way. They are playing well and are making the tournament more difficult to predict.

I like Newark or pick central to make final 4 to Columbus and down here in cincy area sw ohio you could take your pick with 3 teams: Lakota west, mason, or mount notre dame.

I suspect that one of these 3 teams will play for the state title, jmo.

I agree and would add Coffman in the Columbus group that has a shot.

For sure, they could very well be a sleeper team
If there is such. Will definitely surprise some.
