Potential New Football Programs

With Tri-Village in their 3rd Varsity season in 2018, Stryker in their 1st Varsity season, and Pioneer North Central and Olentangy Berlin hiring their first football coach, it has me wondering what other schools that don't have football currently that could. Thoughts?

I don’t think it’s unrealistic that Mason would open a new school. They have one of the highest enrollments in the state and they are still building house throughout the city.

I don't think that's out of the question either. They have like 1300 boys in grades 9-11.

As far as new football programs at existing schools, West Union, North Adams, Peebles, and Winchester Eastern all have some club teams that someday could convert to official school teams. Middletown Christian hopes to convert back to official OHSAA too. Toledo Horizon Science and Elyria Open Door would be quick to jump on 8-Man.

Olentangy has a 10+ year plan on a 5th high school, we shall see if it comes to fruition.

Pickerington South?

I'd like to see all those Club teams become full members. Open Door isn't big enough to have Soccer and Football IMO. As much as the Columbus Suburbs are growing, none of those would surprise me either. I know Houston in Shelby County had Youth Football. Unsure if they still do or not. I know they are big enough for a football team. Lincolnview?

I would love to see Berlin Hiland get football. They are great in pretty much every other sport.

Is Houston still talking about starting a program?

Not really sure. That's kinda why I started this thread because I'm curious myself.

Me either, I know there was discussion about the same time Loramie started their program, but haven't heard anything for a few years.

EagleFan 12-30-17 07:13 PM

Houston
Lordstown
Yellow Springs
Seven Hills
Wellington School
Georgetown
Berlin Hiland
Van Wert Lincolnview
Kinsman Badger
Ripley
Lake Ridge Academy
South Webster
Lynchburg-Clay
Leesburg Fairfield
Felicity-Franklin

...all theoretically could scrounge up a D 7 roster, But in today's environment not sure football is going to grow much. Probably those that are in a community area with youth football would be most likely.

I think the health questions/concussion safety concerns would limit "new" programs developing. I think there is more of a chance to see new schools within growing suburbs specifically Columbus to have new schools.

Thats nuts...A ton of kids in the hallways in between classes. I new Mason had a lot of students, but I didn't know it was that packed.

Oh I know Hiland will never have football. But just to think how good they could be if they did.

Add Lake Center Christian to list! Pretty strong boys programs in soccer, basketball and baseball.

LICKING COUNTY FAN 12-31-17 03:11 PM

Tell me more about Stryker.

Location
Will the stadium be at the school?

Schedule?

I am going to try and work them into my 2018 schedule.

Will they ever have football as they supposedly promised when entering PTC??

PTC Junky 12-31-17 09:02 PM

Seems to me they should; they have the land to build stadium too

EagleFan 12-31-17 10:21 PM

Is their interest by the students?

Exit 29 01-01-18 07:41 PM

Correct me if I am wrong, Does Adams County have a OHSAA member Varsity Football team? I don’t believe they do.

In the Cincy area, Mason seems to be the biggest candidate for a second school and with that a new football program. Maybe Springboro in 10 years adds a new school. Also a third Lakota school doesn’t seem unrealistic either.

On the other end, one program I could see being eliminated is Purcell. I think the school as a whole is in bad shape. Also a Colerain/Northwest and Anderson/Turpin merger could eliminate 2 programs.

IIRC their land they built their soccer and baseball fields on were offered under a trust that reverts back to the original owners should the school offer football.

Mason has finally gotten competitive in football (despite dwarfing almost everyone in terms of enrollment).

There is no way Castner will let them split the school. The Superintendent and School Board may ask him permission to do so, but he will say "no" for sure. Probably "Fuq No!" to be exact.

I think at some point a new school or addition will need to be built to accomidate the influx students. If a new school has to be built you may see a push for a second school. I can't see Castner having the final say. I know he has a lot of power within the school but I don't think that much. I didn't realize how many students Mason had until I checked a few days ago. There is still plenty of houses being built and at some point you have to think they will divide the district between 2 high schools.

North Adams plays club I think since 2015
West Union has had club since 2014
Peebles started a Club team in 2017

From what I could gather from joeeitel.com

I saw Yellow Springs on a list of potentials. They have a decent basketball program. But Yellow Springs is a different kind of town. Not necessarily in a bad way, but just not in a way that football would be able to thrive. They had some players that were good in the 90s and competed here and there, but I seriously doubt a football team will come back around Yellow Springs.
