Muskingum Valley League to expand to 12 in 2020

It's official. Coshocton, Meadowbrook, and RiverView will be members of the Muskingum Valley League beginning with the 2020-21 school year.

River View may never win a league football game again. I think this will be a good fit for most programs. Just made too much sense logistically not to do it and opens up the points pool a little bit more for MVL teams by adding 1 more non-league game.

Well the ECOL is basically dead

Good move for the schools involved.

Teach - Did they put in a penalty for leaving?

teach1coach2 04-28-18 07:40 PM

Schools signed a 10 year contract and there is a financial penalty for any school that leaves early. With that said, the penalty is pretty small in my opinion. $2000 per year for leaving early. What school would worry about paying a fine less than $20,000 to get out of a league if a better situation came along.

I don't think they have to worry. Not a lot of options in SEO.

With the ECOL done what do ZHS and Cambridge do? It would have made since to include them in the big school division and move Riverview to the small with Coshocton. However, the MVL has always been against ZHS.

I imagine those two will play a few non-league games against the MVL bigger schools in the coming years.

I don't think you will see more teams added to the MVL in the next couple decades. And even if teams were added, River View is bigger than half the teams in the large school division. It would be Philo that moved down. And FYI. Philo is basically the same size as Cambridge.

The MVL has and will continue to be very careful not to lose its longtime members. This move was made for the small schools. Adding Zanesville would do nothing to improve the situation for those schools.

The difficulties of scheduling an odd number of teams is the main reason Cambridge is not in the MVL.

River View has more students than Philo or Cambridge, so the divisions would not be as Hannahs suggested in the article if 2 more teams were added.

Butthurt but true, mostly..River View does nothing but give larger schools easy wins..but doubt anyone is really concerned about a D1 talented athlete once every 30 years as he suggests.

More butt hurt.

Zanesville tears filling the Muskingum River.
