Thoughts?

Should be a pretty wide open this year, no clear favorite at this point.

I don’t think I’ll be as active as last year, but I will try to keep this updated, just like last year. Once again any help with schedules and results will be appreciated.

WhatsupDoc 11-10-17 09:36 AM

I think the Federal League will be very balanced this year. Jackson obviously lost a lot, but they are still Jackson.
Hoover will be interesting this year. I believe this is coach Blackledge's 4th year so the seniors and Juniors will have come through his program that he has built. They should be ready to play his style.
Good Luck!!!

Please post scrimmage results.Cleveland Benedictine beat McKinley in 30 minutes of scrimmage by 4 points.

They played 3x10 minute games/quarters.

Benedictine was 22-6 last year and ranked 22nd in the state.

McKinley has a very good freshmen that will get playing time! He should be one of the best players in the league next year.

BigBulldog 11-13-17 04:18 PM

Can someone from every team post what they return this year.I will start.

McKinley returns 1 starter and 7 players with playing time.

McKinley returns Deontae MCCollum 10.6 5'11"

McKinley returns these players with playing time:

Tymere Straughter 5.4 6FT
J'Von Johnson 5.8 5'9"
Jaedyn MCCallup 4.1 6'5"
Sam Williams 3.8 6'2"
James Howell 3.5 6'1"
Tyreece Nance 3.3 6'1"
Elija Curtis 3.0 5'9"

The Pups also have a phenom freshmen Kobe Johnson 6'3" who will get playing time! He will be one of the best players in the league next year.

And the JV went 15-3 last year.

Here is how I break out the Fed heading into the season. The top 3 tiers are as close as they've ever been and anyone in these tiers can win the league. But heading into the season with returning talent and coaching staff this is where I have everyone ranked at the moment.

Tier 1
Lake
Jackson
GlenOak

Tier 2
McKinley
Green

Tier 3
Hoover

Tier 4
Perry

Hoover has the biggest question marks to me with only really Eli returning and him possibly missing some early games in the season.

Lake has great height and great depth and a great coaching staff

GlenOak is talented this year and also has great depth. Outside shooting will be a ? mark for them.

Jackson is Jackson. They've got this thing rolling and barring any injuries they will be in the hunt and I think will have one of the best backcourts in the area.

McKinley has a couple of nice returning players and a super freshman but not much height. Wouldn't be surprised if they win the league though

Green has the best player in the fed imo in Martin and I think he will have a great year. They have some great shooters around him too.

Perry will help provide everyone with a win this season.

WhatsupDoc 11-16-17 09:51 PM

Hayden Fox, I think you're right about Blackledge. Sounds like his shoulder is still bothering him from baseball. Hopefully he will have a speedy recovery.

Akblue 11-18-17 02:31 PM

IMO this is the year Green makes its mark on the Fed. They have a stable of guards led by Martin. Next year they will be even better.

BigBulldog 11-18-17 03:10 PM

McKinley dominated Ashland by a lot in all 4 quarters.Ashland was 17-8 last year.

WhatsupDoc 11-18-17 03:39 PM

Are any of the Federal Leauge teams doing those 4 quarter scrimmage games? The state puts them on.

Not sure if the state is putting it on but Lake plays East Canton in a foundation game on 11/22 @ 7:45

Do you know how they did in the Perry Rotary Preview against Ellet Friday?

Akblue 11-18-17 05:36 PM

HaHa. The Rotary means nothing. Kinsley never shows his cards there.

Nobody does, especially not when they play in the regular season!
I didnt make it down, was just wondering how both teams looked. Two guard laden teams.

I got another update on the scrimmage saying McKinley got the best of both Lorain and Benedictine.

Lorain was 25-3 last year and Benedictine 22-6.

Hayden Fox 11-22-17 01:23 PM

Jackson faces SVSM, Lorain and Toledo St John in scrimmage today. Should be a great test of this team.

Jackson beat SVSM by single digits, beat Lorain badly and lost by 6 to Toledo St. John's. Overall a solid effort by the Bears.

Lake 's freshman class continues to show that it has a group of athletes.....7 played in football games with the possibility of 10 to 12 starting as sophomores next year. This group now has placed 6 of them on the JV team for basketball and still have 15 for the freshman team. I am not sure but I don't think there are any sophomores on the varsity team.

afwpatfire 12-01-17 07:20 PM

There are a couple of sophomores, Fedor and Nicodemo.

How many games is Blackledge suspended for? I originally heard 5, then this weekend I heard it was reduced to 2.
