Lakota West short list???

Now that Rooks has resigned who is next to lead the Firebirds?

Kballer 04-11-18 09:33 AM

Would think a lot of crossover with Hamilton, but with West looking so thinned out talent-wise Hamilton might be the more attractive job. Certainly a coaches market!!!

Philly_Cat 04-11-18 09:46 AM

I think I might need to dust off my resume

Division I Programs in Cincinnati with double-digit wins in each of the last 4 years--coaches on staff Yes or No interested in West job IMO:

Mason--possibly JV coach Popplewell former HC at Monroe
Oak Hills--maybe JV coach Fleming if Hamilton falls thru
Lakota East--No one likely
Moeller--No one likely
LaSalle--No one likely
Elder--Outside shot at former Ffield HC Tim Austing
Wilmington--could see HC Nozska being interested
Walnut Hills--No one likely
Northwest--HC Argentati likely interested--won league at Northwest multiple years
Anderson--HC DeLotell great job in getting double digit wins 4 straight-unlikely interest

Obviously could be some local D2-3 HC's interested in moving up--West talent pool is better next year than the previous two years that Rooks had--

How about Higgins from Lebanon..Was in GMC at colerain right?

fish82 04-11-18 12:54 PM

Someone call Greg Woodard. He just packed it in at John Glenn, and would be a great addition to The WC. :thumb:

Rocky Rockhold. Current Trotwood coach????

baselinet2baseline 04-11-18 07:25 PM

Short list

Have not been on here in a while, but end of the season job openings are always interesting. Did coach Rooks apply for the Hamilton job,
Why did he step down?

Rocky Rockhold would not leave a power house in Trotwod to go to West IMO
They have all returning but two seniors on a final four team.

Jump21 04-16-18 06:51 PM

I'm curious how the coaching hunt works... Is this the kind of job 100 people apply for or is it usually a small group? Does an AD have to go out and actively look? Do schools ever promote from within? Oh, and do coaches bring their own staff... fr jv asst. Etc.?

I gotta imagine that in these big schools there has to be a ton of people caught up in the scuttlebutt. Gimme some...

Read that Matt Rooks has 3 kids under 5 and was an emotional decision to leave. I saw him play Hamilton twice. Looked like a passionate dude.

Common reason recently. VW sited family as did Syc coach last year. Syc coach said if he kept coaching he would never see his own kid(s) play.

Coaching has to take a toll on the family. And for 50 cents an hour.

Not saying it's not the case but many coaches use Family as a reason but it's very disingenuous. For instance Moss(Sycamore Coach) sitting family but is an assistant at Kings?? So is it truly family or just a little bit family, because there are plenty of coaches that are able to be successful and put family first...

This will be an interesting hire. There appear to be some barriers to success and Rooks had some non-supportive situations. The AD has a great track record and is well respected. The football situation doesn't help.

What do you mean the football situation doesn’t help?

Greenandwhite98 04-17-18 09:23 AM

What has happened to Wilmington's Mike Noszka's star? Did it shine bright and fade just as quick? He was a finalist for St. X not too long ago and now he's not mentioned here or on the Hamilton thread.

Kballer 04-17-18 11:21 AM

Wonder if Darnell Parker will throw his hat in the ring. Former Clark boys coach, current Loveland girls coach, but lives and has kids in Lakota.

Football coach doesn't like or encourage kids to play basketball and it's not like football has much success.

This I do not know? Interesting thought though.

Youknow 04-18-18 11:22 AM

St. X Jim Lallathin is a lakota guy. Wouldnt surprise me at all to see him get it.

Interesting, but X is a better position.

Agree Rick unless he wants to return to his alma mater, get into the public retirement system (although no spring chicken), potentially making more $'s than at St. X, closer drive to home/school--likely more wins at St. X based on three years as coach--St. X has 31 wins and West 26--and current direction of programs;)

RetiredCoach 04-19-18 07:54 AM

The search begins and ends with DJ Wyrick. He lives in the area and I think this is the school he has wanted since he moved there.

JL antics on the sidelines wouldn't sit well with the West AD IMO. I see a lot of reasons for him to go after the job but I also think it would be smart for him to lay low and not apply considering a brand new AD starts at X in January.

DJ Wyrick has been at Vandalia how long--real problem at West is they currently have no teaching jobs open in the District--limits who they can bring in--same situation existed when Van Winkle was hired--many quality coaches couldn't consider the job as no full time job associated with the coaching. Can't see Wyrick working at Butler and coaching at West.

Head coach at Vandalia-Butler. He had a good season and is in the area.

SWD Coach of the Year from Vandalia Butler. Completely turned their program around in 3 years. A lot of similarities between the two programs.

Dont agree at all. Much easier to get kids to Lakota being open enrollment than St. X. X is and will always be a football school first. Hearing a lot of things that Cox (football coach at Lakota) maybe coaching his last season next year would help that situation. And the conference is up for grabs really. In the GCL south its Moeller and then everyone else playing for second

You Know I see your rationale but Lakota rules for 2017-18 school year was the following:

"Due to the high volume of returning open enrolled students, at this time we are not accepting applicants that are applying for the first time.
Per Board Policy 5113 and Administrative Guidelines, we will only be accepting applications from current Lakota staff, returning open enrolled students and siblings of returning open enrolled students."

So Lakota will likely not be accepting many Open Enrolls in future years!!

That's something I've tried to say for years to the people that try to act like open open enrollment means the whole world can go to a school.

No the whole world, just the athletically gifted ones. Ask Fishy- he always found a way even before it was "Open"
