Maybe VASJ is in Ignatius's doghouse?? Our boys and girls coaches did sign the O'Toole letter with the 100 other coaches, who knows.

Pinocchio...your nose is growing. I'm guessing Ignatius is playing teams whose coaches signed that letter.

The Jesuit approach would be...make up and make money.

Good luck next week at the FB State Title game.

On an unrelated matter, who will start for the Vikings?

Starters should be;
Jerry Higgins (5-9, Jr., PG, 12.3 points, 5.2 assists, 2.3 steals), Terrence Lawler (5-10, Sr., G, 2.0 points), Danny McGarry (6-3, Sr., F, 4.7 points), Alonzo Gaffney (6-7, So., F, 8.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.5 blocks) and Jahlen Hill at Center. Off the bench, Andre George (energy guy) and probably Newlan (3pt guy) and Mitcham (post guy).

McGarry and Mitcham are Our Lady of the Lake alums. Gaffney is a St Jerome alum. Lawler a St John the Cross alum. Newlan is a St Paschal alum.

Probably Newlon starting, not Hill. George and Lawler will be first two off the bench.

I'm bummed that I'm out of town for the opener. Go Vikings. Should be a great season. They will need to find that scorer that they had last year in Dean to really be elite. They might take a few lumps here and there with the schedule they play - but come tournament time D3 schools will not want to see these boys.

C'Town216 12-02-16 04:24 PM

Starters for 1st 2 games tonight and tomorrow at Northland from the game sheet they hand out at every game

PG. Higgins SG. George SF. Newlon PF. McGarry C. Gaffney

Gene Higgins was a HUGE loss for the Vikings. They were up almost 20 when he went down and had to fight foul trouble and a fired up Panther squad for a tough opening night win. There is No Way Gene is playing at Northland today. He needs to take as much time as he needs because he is the engine that drives this team.

Agreed. And now with the loss of Danny McGarry with a rolled ankle, the Vikes are missing two huge pieces. Hopefully they heal quickly. In the mean time, time for other guys to step up and shine.

Bball216 12-06-16 05:34 PM

Even without McGarry and Gene the Vikings very well should have won against Northland. Gaffney had a poor shooting night and VASJ missed several bunnies. The good news is both injuries are not as bad as it could have been. McGarry should play Friday and Gene should be a go the following week against CCC.

C'Town216 12-09-16 02:31 PM

I don't mean to look ahead to overshadow tonight's game at Lutheran East but it appears the Vikes will go up against CCC's JV team next week with their entire varsity team being suspended for two games (1st against Benedictine) due to the brawl that happened against St.V.

I fully expect Higgins to sit again next week since CCC will be putting a JV squad on the floor. Very solid win tonight without Higgins over a very talented transfer heavy Lutheran East squad. That regional game between Conerstone and East is going to be a good one this year. There are several kids getting valuable experience in Higgins absence. This will only make them better when he returns. When you can win games without your best player that speaks volumes.

Vikings cruise easily as expected, http://vasjvikings.com/2016/12/17/va...enior-leaders/ . Next game 12/27 vs Benedictine at Garfield, Hts. Merry Christmas!

Bball216 12-18-16 07:07 PM

The Benny game could mark the return of Higgins.

For those looking for the game on ESPN, it is NOT on ESPN, it is being streamed on ESPN3.

Good luck Vikings! Represent Ohio VASJ.:)

Bball216 01-09-17 04:45 AM

VASJ did what they could. They led 27-26 and kept it close at the half. When LaLumire went from man to zone the game really changed. The positive I take from this game is that VASJ gave this squad real issues when they played man to man and they will not see any team even close to this squad the rest of the season in Ohio. NOBODY will be able to throw a zone out there with the talent and size LaLumire had. These are the kind of games VASJ is not afraid to play and that pay dividends come playoff time.

BigBulldog 01-12-17 01:42 PM

How has Zo looked so far? Is he a shot blocker/rim protector? How does he look on offense? What position does he play?

Has he grown?

Bball216 01-15-17 11:18 AM

Zo is getting better every game. He struggled a bit when Higgins was out because everybody keyed on him. Early in the year McGarry was dinged as well. Higgins and Zo are starting to get some chemistry going. People have to remember this is really Zo first year being a center piece of a high school team. His talent is unmistakable and raw - he just needs experience. Early in the year he was in constant foul trouble because he was just to amped up and was leaving his feet trying to block everything. He is starting to mature. Playing some of the elite teams Joe's has on the schedule will no doubt speed up the learning process. Come playoff time he along with Higgins and McGarry will be a handful. There are no players in D3 that can play above the rim like Zo.

Thank you very much and win State!:)

Your Dawgs have had a nice season so far. Pretty brutal schedule. D1 is really tough this year. Several good teams right in your backyard. Good Luck the rest of the way.

MugnMaul78 01-24-17 09:37 PM

VASJ Vikings with a nice win tonight over St Thomas, 77 to 57. You can watch the replay of the game on the live feed site; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eEQQZI177Q

St Ed's

will there be any tickets for sale on the stage at CCC tonight for Sat? If not will they available at the door Sat night?

Bball216 01-29-17 08:02 PM

This was a good and bad week for VASJ. The week started with a solid win at home over a nice St. Thomas team in Viking Village - but it was not without a cost. William Butler and Danny McGarry tweaked their ankles. Next was the much anticipated match up with CCC after the Ironmen were forced to sit their varsity in the first matchup of the season. The Vikings played hard and won a tough one - but again not without a cost. Andre George arguably the Vikings best perimeter defender went out with a fracture in his foot and will be lost for two weeks.

I think everybody who follows the program knew how tough Saturday night at Ed's was going to be. VASJ never makes excuses but they were coming off two tough games and that back to back with CCC was brutal. Ed's was fresh after not playing for a full week - and it showed. Ed's just wore out a very tired looking Joe's team. The Vikings are not that bad and Ed's is not as good as the score indicated. The Vikings are a bit beat up right now, but that builds character. With that being said no team in NE Ohio plays better at home than Ed's. They have a really nice and really young team. They might be a year away from winning it all.

StarstoShine 01-30-17 08:23 AM

VASJ have incredible tradition. The young Vikings lead by Higgins and Gaffney should be favorites in 7 of their last 8 games rolling into tournament play. Only STVM provides a formidable challenge at the LBJ. I look for the Vikings to make a return trip to Columbus.

Bball216 02-05-17 09:04 AM

VASJ had a big win last night over Mentor. There is so much that you learn playing a team like them. You have to play solid defense the whole game. They make you defend inside and outside and are so well coached. The Vikings will not play a team that executes like Mentor the rest of the year. The Vikings really played well and that is encouraging. They are still beat up and hobbled a bit - but they sucked it up, showed grit and fed off the crowd. Last night made me feel pretty good about Joe's ability to reach Columbus again. The kids are starting to show real character.
