OHSAA approved a new schedule for the state meet. It is as follows:

Wednesday, Feb. 23: Division II girls diving — 9:00 to noon; Division II boys diving — 2:00 to 5:00; Thursday, Feb. 24: Division I girls diving — 9:00 to noon; Division II boys and girls swimming preliminaries — 5:00 to 8:00; Friday, Feb. 25: Division I boys and girls swimming preliminaries — 9:00 to 12:30; Division II boys and girls swimming finals — 5:00 to 8:00; Saturday, Feb. 26: Division I boys diving — 9:00 to noon; Division I boys and girls swimming finals — 4:00 to 7:30.

This looks like a good move for OHSAA. All finals will be in the evening. DII is now a Thursday / Friday meet and DI stays a Friday / Saturday meet. Splitting the days for the finals may also generate more press coverage. At least we can hope.

Where do you see that information? On the OHSAA website they have it listed differently.

If you are correct and I'm guessing you are since you put it up; I like that format. My only concern would be all the down time between prelims and finals. If the kids finish around Noon and wouldn't swim till 5 the next day that is a lot of time out of the pool for a prelim/final type meet.

Are they going to let the other divisions warm up when another division is going on?

If not this gives the big schools with more money an advantage as they usually rent out pool space up in Canton to swim.

It will be fun to have both finals at night instead of one having to be in the morning. Swimming at night is much more fun. The crowd is awake and louder.

The new schedule was approved by the OHSAA Board at their October meeting. The information is in the minutes from that meeting. I guess they have not updated the website.

I don't know about whether they will allow swimmers access to the pool between prelims & finals. Of course the pool will be in use Friday morning with the D1 prelims and I'm not sure that the D2 swimmers would want to use it Friday afternoon immediately before the finals. It's a different story for D1 because there won't be swimming going on Saturday morning.

As to the big schools renting pool time...I don't know what schools have done that. I suspect that's one of those rumors that has no basis in fact.

Plus, there is nothing like a night time championship. Having all day to think about the task ahead will reveal who thrives under pressure, and who lets the anticipation get the best of them.

One thing is for sure, it's gonna be a great night in Canton. PRIMETIME BABY!!!
