The Springfield Spartans earned themselves a shoe Friday night at Ellet High School.
It was good timing, too.
Junior running back Dillon Matthews might have worn his pair out.
Matthews rushed for 264 yards and all three of the Spartans' touchdowns Friday in a 20-14 come-from-behind win over Ellet.
It's the second year in a row the Spartans have won the Battle of the Shoe, an honor awarded to the winner of the rivalry. Ellet had controlled the Shoe since 1984 during a period of sporadic play between the Summit County neighbors.
''We got the shoe and we are 1-0 going into the [rest of the]\ season,'' Matthews said ''It feels great.''
