The Big 8 is this week. It looks like StX, SC, Centerville, University, & UA will be there. Anyone know who the other 3 will be?

This is a list I saw, but it is a mix of guys/girls schools:
St. Xavier, Upper Arlington, Ursuline, Mason, Shaker Heights, Akron Firestone, University School, Centerville and Toledo St. Francis.
It seems odd that StC was not on that particular list.

It sounds like Wyoming and StFrancis have been added this year.
Why would you put Mason ahead of Akron? At least Akron has Meisner and Bartley. Who do you think Mason has that will score more points than those two...or even has a shot at being in the top-10?

I thought St. X would run away with this meet, and I'll have to see the full results before I can give my opinion on why it was so close. But for now, my main question is "Why are there 10 teams in the Big Eight Meet?"

Results are up on swimmeet.com. Viking invite and Canton invite are also available on swimmeet.
Now that the jj discussions are shut down, I wonder if the Wyoming boys are going to continue their claims of impending victory at the SW classic on yappi. Based on the Big8, I doubt it.

How was the meet this close?
Some very close swims by every team.
University swam amazing, would have won the meet if they had decent secondary guys...thats why Centerville beat them
Wyoming, didnt have the depth as well as St Charles
Centerville swam pretty well somehow

Viewing the results, Centerville & University both had impressive meets. We knew that X was good and deep, but I did not expect as much depth from Centerville. Still expect X to win the state, but with Centerville performance second looks like it's up for grabs. UA remains an unknown as they made only a token appearance at the Big 8. Looks like we'll have to wait for the Ned Reeb to get any kind of read on them. In D2 it appears that Unversity is stronger than last year. Don't see Wyoming (or anyone else) giving them much of a challenge. And on the girls side, Watterson has closed the gap considerably on UA, although they probably don't have the depth to dethrone them.

ST X will be even faster later on, they were last year...their 400free relay was questionable though
and did Cville not destroy St. Charles?

I was very impressed with Centerville. They are the clear #2 team in the state, and I think come the end of the year they can give St. X a run for their money. That being said, St. X still remains the team to beat. They have reloaded as well as they ever have, and I think they are the front runners at this point in the year. As I've previously mentioned, I don't see St. Charles as much of a threat.
I also heard that University had fast suits on. Can someone who was there confirm this?
did some of these teams rest 2-3 days or so for this meet?

No question that Centerville had a very very impressive Big 8. And I agree that as of today they are the clear favorite for #2. But remember its still very early and if memory serves St. Charles was 4th in this meet last year. I'm not ready to write them off yet. Historically, SC tapers much better than Centerville. It's a long way to February so don't start rearranging the trophy case quite yet.

St. Charles did not have Nick last year...and he will not come back to save them this year...STC still swam somewhat fast, just Centerville swam faster
Honestly it only looked like University rested, i dont think Centerville did...they were still way off their best times
Most of Centerville trains with the Dayton Raiders now...and yes history is in the favor and X and STC and Centerville may not be as good later on

So r u saying history is in favor of X or that since most rested a bit that they won't be as good later on?

C ville does not always taper well, if something changes with that then they have a shot at number two, if not, well you may have seen their best swims of the year.

The Raiders rested for the USA Makos meet the week before. My niece swims for Centerville (and the Raiders) and said that she was still rested, can't say if the rest of Centerville was. A lot of teams used to do a mid-season rest and fast suit for Ned Reeb and have maintained this practice even though Reeb will be in January.
We also saw Schuttinger rested and shaved for Jr. Nats and perform well at his first HS meet back. I think that for most of the HS swimmers who swam at Jr.s, they were still seeing the benefits of the rest and certainly the shave.
Without the suits this year, the actual taper and shave will be really critical and I don't think that we can speculate on the February performances this season based on tapers from last. Look at Phelps, the suits made a difference.

Cville gets ST X and SC in the month of Jan at home.
St X is the best team this year Period. SC is still a work is process.
Cville swam very well and had a chance until the 500 free, then Alex Miller sent a very strong message. After that ST X took charge of the Big 8.
Cville needs to be more worried about how many swimmers they will be able to get out of the district meet. When ST X brings the whole team

Actual taper this year is going to be very important; given the changes. This time of the season with the kids out of school is, in my opinion, the most critical to how well they do in February. They should be worked harder than any other part of the season. You can only rest and taper, what is called going to the bucket, so many times before it becomes no longer effective. It is different for each athlete and the coaches have to be tuned in to the athletes to use it to its maximum. That being said the time to rest is usually one or two weeks prior to the meet you want them to maximize. So many swimmers who have rested now then rest for another so called big meet and try to go to the bucket one more time for States will find it very difficult. Personal opinion take it for what it worth to you.
Do most kids rest for only about 2 weeks? How long do college athletes tend to rest 4-5 weeks?

I guess it depends on what you consider to be rest. Two weeks maximum, depends on the athlete how long. More than that all is lost if they are trained properly. Again just my opinion, maybe you know something I don't.
