Great job Metz, keep them winning. Are you going to follow them to A team?

polster,

I hope so...

The agreement we had with KV was 7th graders play BYF in Springfield period.. This year was a bust from the get go for us in the BYF with only 9 7th graders signing up for BYF A-team, the MS was able to pick these 9 kids up. MS has the luxury of keeping the team open most of the season for late sign ups/stragglers thus by the end of the year they had over 20 7th graders on the roster.. In the BYF we have roster deadlines and things that prevent us from allowing kids to come in too late. Problem with MS 7th grade football in the PTC is only a few games are available for those boys and the quality of thoses games is marginal at best I was told from the parents who watched them..

We cant make kids play for the 7th grade team in the BYF but that is what KV wants just ask him, and the quality and quanity of games for the BYF 7th grade games is top notch and there is a playoff system in the BYF. MS is a bare bones 7 games with 8 minute quaters.. not knocking it but its very basic.

We really need to establish the 7th grade team in BYF so we can keep kids in the same grade playing together and keep a barometer on the numbers going into the schools football program if we continue to field a team one year in BYF A-division and not the next there will never be the continuity we (youth and school) are trying to create with the HS/MS and the overall program will suffer...

Oh by the way the 7th graders play in the Springfield BYF for FREE next season..

I agree totally 100%. I feel theses kids need to stay down for sure. I expressed that with these coaches many times. That is one of the reasons why we made this move. Its all up to KV to figure it out but I know some issues are coming up and effect players and coaches loyalty to Springfield and who can be trusted developing kids for our school and not the others. I hope you will stress these parents about the playing time in the byf. I dont think you will have a problem next year. You need to go and have a 1 on 1 with KV, and clear the air and not wait till the last minute then sit around later and whine about it. Get these kids signed up now for next year so they will be on your roster.

Doesn't matter if we sign them up now or not, they have 9 months to change their minds, and we have nothing holding or obligating them to play for BYF. They can give us their word now, but since they will be free to play next year, not even the money will hold them to their decision. It is just that, they're word. This whole situation is in the hands of KV. He gave us his word, and now I hope he sticks with it. What happened this year at the MS, was a cluster and a major setback for the BYF 7th grade team for years to come. For kids to be able to sign up for Football in September and be on the Field playing in games the same week, definately hindered our chance at keeping 7th graders at BYF. Kids now know, they can skip all of Augusts practices and still know they can play in games in September and October. The only way this can work, is if the MS has a deadline to sign up, that is the same as BYF. Anyone who wants to play after that deadline must be sent packing.

As far as your loyalty comments, not sure what you mean, but I'm pretty sure everyone involved in Springfield BYF is committed to developing Football players for this community. What happens when 9th grade comes around, is out of our hands. We are doing everything we can to turn our Program around and I think our results this year are proof enough that we have made great strides.

Polster,

Irish and I had this discussion with the BYF board and we all agree with the need for the 7th grade BYF team in Springfield and the fact that we agreed with KV for the 7th graders to play for free which the BYF board has reinstated.. We are going to request to meet with Vaughn after this season to clear the air on this 7th grade BYF/MS issue... To me the MS coaches are very qualified and experianced, we all (BYF and MS coaches) have been around Springfield for some time, allot of that time coaching with each other on some years.. There is no beef there at all we all want the same thing, we all respect each others knowledge of the game..

Trust me (or dont) when I say this: Springfield needs to have 7th graders playing in the BYF, we will never reach our numbers goals with out this and we are the feeder system for the MS/HS and we are scratching and clawing to get more kids into the system and trained for MS... If it does not happen then you will see kids dropping out in 7th grade with the risk of not returning to the sport... it just happens.. With the JV/Varsity format we have in the BYF EVERY 7th grader would prosper with gametime not just the best one's who may crack the 8th grade line up on the MS team..
OK i'm done...

I dont want to whine and complain about this but its hard to get everyone (parents) to fall in line with the "plan" unless the man (KV) is requesting it of them.

There are 8 coaches on the BYF B-team with different degrees of experiance and knowledge, IMO 4 of the 8 could HC a team.. The MS has 3 coaches on it. It just would not make sense for them to have 45-50 kids for 3 MS coaches and very limited game time for the majority... just to note on this subject Springfield is not the only program with this issue..

25 - 0 Green,

none the less, still a very succesful season for our B Team. To make it to the Championship game, having the fewest number of Football players in an Organization is an accomplishment in itself. A, B and C teams in 2010 look to be very competitive. Cant wait.

That Green Black B-Team was easily the best team I saw all season. They beat the Tallmadge Blue 27-0 but that was the score midway through the second quarter. They scored on every possession until they had to take out their starting backfield.

The thing I was impressed with the most from that Green team, was how all 11 Offensive players blocked on every play. All day long, you could look out and see every offensive kid from Green blocking another kid while the play was going on. Thats hard to do from kids that age.

Their defense was the same way. It seemed like our offense had broken one a couple times only to get tackled 5 yards down the field by a second swarm of players. Most of the year, our runners just had to beat that first group and they were gone for a big play.

They seemed to have a couple star players like most teams but watching the game, I couldn't pick out any weaknesses.

spartan71

Green Black had the best blocking of any team by far that we faced... They were fundementally sound in almost every aspect of the game... We were up and down all season with our blocking and Saturday our defense gave up big plays when we had them in 4th and long situations that took what ever momentum we were building away... are they 4 td better?? I dont think so but they deserve kudos for execution and playing like champions...

Last year, B and C Varsity teams combined for 3 total wins between 3 seperate teams.
C Red Varsity 1 - 7
C Gray Varsity 1 - 7
B Team 1 - 7

This year, having only 2 total Varsity teams at the B and C level, we had 14 wins.
C Team 7 - 2
B Team 7 - 3

Irish, what is the size , dimensions of the field house? Do you have the plans?

Irish87
11-05-09, 07:51 AM
24 x 30
8" Block Walls w/Trussed Roof w/Shingles
1 - standard door
1 - 8 x 8 Garage Door
Concrete Floor

Drawings are complete. We are currently working on a Materials List so we can solicit local buisnesses for donations and/or help. Labor should not be a problem. We have had many volunteers offer up their services to complete the project. After we have an approximate cost of the Project, we will discuss with the Board, get approval and begin the steps for approval through the School Administration and Zoning in the Township. Both have been notified of the project and are in favor of the project simply need to see the Plans to sign off on.

If you're interested in helping, get a hold of me and I'll add you to the list.
Obviously, Materials we will be looking for help on are:
8" Block
Concrete
Trusses/Lumber
Doors
Shingles
Paint

Depending on how sucessful our Night at the Races is on November 21, will determine if we break ground in the Spring of 2010 or 2011.

30' long, 24' wide, not sure if its inside to inside or the latter. Dont have the prints on me. Will be placed just north of the "Shed". I believe we have a garage Door as well, through Akron/Canton Door.
Thanx. I'll keep you in the loop on the progress. Bricklayers and Brick will prolly be our biggest expense. Keep your ears open.

Gotcha. As I said, Labor is plentiful at this point.
We have a person to Excavate, we have Concrete pourers, Carpenters, Roofers, and plenty of "jack of all trade" people, but we can always use more. Still working on a Bricklayer.

Mick should know a ton of brick layers. My buddy said he can do 16, 24 foot trusses for 30 bucks a piece new.

Set the Trusses for 30 bucks, or provide Trusses to us for 30 bucks a piece?
