The catch is ,turf will cost 500,000 thousand more to install into the new stadium next to the new HS that is. Money will have to be raised through fundraisers.

I really, don't see a new HS or Football field being built, in the near future, but if they do, I'm partial to grass.
Word is, if approved, 25% of the funds would come from the state, and the remaining 75% would have to come from the community. Just don't see it happening any time soon. I just don't think the Board could justify these funds. I hope I'm wrong though.

Does anyone know the difference between a levy and a bond is? I am not being sarcastic. The way it explained to me was that we have to pass a bond issue guaranteeing the state we pay back the 75% of the loan over 30 years.

the new turf types get pretty close to natural.. i vote turf... (with the hope of the youth leagues getting to have more games at the H.S. field... the kids love playing there)

we need some new schools here i have seen some schools allot nicer than some of ours being demolished and new ones put up in their place all around us:shrug: ... i think it would make our utilities more efficient and help raise moral around here... I dont know what kind of effect this would have on passing the levy good or bad???

I havnt been to Lakes facility but I heard its the real deal. The turf is more like a grass. 71 you been out to see yet?

If they do build a new high school is it automatic that they will make a new football field/stadium? I can see this being one of the cuts to get the new high school built.

I asked a board member that same question. Where will the field be, would we still use the old one? He said a new field is being included with the architects drawings.

Tallmadge built a new High School recently, but did not build a new Football Stadium. They are still using the old one. Food for thought.
My Borther in Law was one of the Architects, that submitted a proposal for the new High School in Springfield. I do not believe there was a new Field in his design. I will check and get back to ya'll.

Just found out, no Designs or Proposals have been submitted yet. The Board is simply going through the processes, to find an Architect who may be interested and has the qualifications to Bid out the project.

The turf is more like a grass. 71 you been out to see yet? yes i have been out on lakes "allumni field" it is very similar to greens the field is basically like synthetic grass with rubber pellets for dirt i dont know how much lake spent on their stadium last year but it is twice as nice as it was before a little asphalt here and there with the turf made their facilities really nice it is no longer a mud bowl there as it was before .. i hated astro-turf or should i say astro-carpet but i love the new stuff they are using these days anyone know the life span of a turf field? how long is this stuff good for? that would be one of my questions as a board member when making a decision on the turf or grass issue would not want or expect the local tax payers or booster club to have to foot a $500,000 bill because this stuff wont stand up for more than say 10 years.. if it lasts for 15 years i would say ok but if it needs changed every 10 years or less then i would vote no, if the wrong group of people are running the booster club (bandies) getting it replaced in 10 years could be a nightmare..

I will check and get back to ya'll. Is he one of the current or one from ten years ago? I say keep the old stadium and make a multiplex out of it. But you have to consider what the kids will do during gym. No outside activities would be bad. Thats if they move to Krumroy road.
71 I think the warranty is 8 years but it can last way longer than that. Also take the maintenance money you would be saving and put it in a kitty to resurface down the road.
So many more options when you can use a turf field year around. Like big Doug said have our own football tournaments. Bring people in from around Ohio to play here. Football, soccer, softball, endless opportunities to grow our community.

And did you say Soccer??!! :wallbang:  :Ohno:  he did say soccer.... but polster has always been a non-discrimination supporter...:) turf would definately be better for holding multipul events and yes we could raise some money holding tourneys there and things like that.. i do hate how they also put the soccer lines all over the beautiful turf football fields thats kind of like coloring with crayons on a Rembrandt... knowing Springfield the would probably also put bandie marks on the turf aswell you know to keep the spacing looking good when in formation... sorry i have to take shots at the band here they have way to many kids and hamper our fight to restore our athletics to respectability.... how many profesional musicians has Springfield produced since the band has been a 200+ organization?? i know a couple of kids who were decent football players in youth who have been sucked away to band land and wont even talk to an athletic coach about playing now:shrug: ... maybe band camp is really that cool??  come to think of it you never hear: "this one time at football camp i stuck a #%%*!@&& up my !^^"

Since you mentioned the band 71, I did some research.
Band boosters vs All sports booster club.

click on band booster
spartan all sports booster; http://www.melissadata.com/lookups/np.asp?zip=44312&submit1=Submit

Band has clearly eclipsed the all sports 20-1. More community activist need apply.
Freekin crazy isn't it. Before you say anything Irish I know it takes hard work and dedication to achieve what they are doing. But you cannot run a monopoly and keep doing this.

wow polster thanks for the info i am going to check out some other schools in the area to see how their band and sports boosters compare....
thats a shame to see one organization so much more affluent than the other considering without the sports the band would play for the same 200 sets of parents twice a year instead of the weekly props they get during football season...

Stop 71 your out of control. The thing is Carla invites everyone to a board meeting every first wednesday of every month. Lets start going!! Every time I say something to anyone associated with the school its like don't step on anyone's toes or you will get burned. Well that's what makes me ignorant when someone tells me that. We all have a kid in 7th or 8th and want to see that kid do well, with the best equipment.

Polster,
post a reminder on here, the day of, and I'll try and attend. As long as my kid doesn't have a Basketball game.
You know me, I gotta be there to smooth talk the coach so my kid gets the most PT. And, if another player scores more points than mine, all heii will break lose.

Ed will learn to deal with the headaches, as long as the kids are having fun, learning the fundamentals of Football, being taught good sportsmanship and winning, which is what will happen under me. :p

Nope. Didn't score at all. In fact, he only played the last 1:47 of the game. No problems here, so lets hear what other BS you want to print about me.
You just don't like the fact that I fire back at you and call you out on your lies and rumors. :)
In fact, the 7th grade team is very talented. They won the Mogadore Tournament and are now 2 - 0. They won by 30 points Monday and 20 points last night. Good things can come out this group of boys.

Now, yes.
But there a lot of other people who get on here to check out the gossip throughout the days and nights.
Turf all the way. It's safer then ever before. You can host state playoff games and track meets there. Spend the extra money and build athletic facilities with the new school.
They will build a new school in the next 4-8 years. They have to. The costs of running their current old, decrepit, unsanitary buildings is near 75% of what a new facility would be. When you are paying that much for terrible buildings, the logic is to build new facilities, pay a little more, and start bringing students BACK to SHS. At the same time, generate more interest from parents and community.
Then again, we are talking about a community with an awful record of supporting schools. So maybe this would be just wasted money after all.
