Whats the 2009 season hold for the Spartans?? who are some of the underclassman that will be contributing next season??

Will there be a JH team next year??

Will they have enough to have a freshman team?? considering only 8 8th graders went out for football this year... thats a pitiful number considering there are around 50-60 boys in that grade....

has the band already grabbed 50% of the kids in each grade like they usually do? can we hire the band recruiters to help recruit kids to play football:shrug: ? i just cannot bear to see another season of 200+ kids in the band and about 20 varsity only football players (note i said varsity only jv and freshman dont count even though they dress)

Just looking for some input on how soon this program will be in the good again...

Omni,
I can only comment on the MS Program, as I am closest to this grade. This year in Youth, we had 28 total 7th graders only, on the Roster. Thats a pretty good number compared to the last few seasons. They had a very successfull season and I look for a few more new players to give it a shot next year for the 8th grade team. I am confident, the MS Football Program will return next year. I will tell you this, if I see numbers are low again, I will personally be knocking on doors, recruiting players.
Freshman team will be a different story. Numbers are low for football players in this grade. The good news is, of the 8 - 10 that will play, they are extremely talented and will contribute to the HS team as Sophmores and beyond. I really see grades 2011 through 2014 as being very good on the football field. That is if they stick together and hit the weightroom often.

Let me chime in on that one. I am not a rocket scientist but I can tell you that the JR High will be very strong next year, barring the QBs dad doesn't interfere with how the coaches want there QB to perform.

Jr high would of been a success but the HS coach said that the JH coach had the roster handled. Man that burns my rear every time I think about it.

I see a freshman team, but I also see allot of talent playing in every JV game.

Then it gets down to who we lose and who we gain from grades, defectors and just plain cry baby's.

If you are involved with Springfield football then you have to see the drastic changes of what has happened here. The youth organization has become more of a family. It showed its colors when my family was in need. The HS coach is more involved, the whole BYF organization including other teams treat you as opponents and friends.

HS has 9 returning starters next year and possibly one more if I can get his grades up. And like you said Irish the weight room has to be used. I was told by Doug W that Vaughn will be having weight training 2 nights a week for the JH kids starting early January. If that's true , that's sweet.

TRUST AND BELIEVE

I feel that there has been 2 points on here that are very important. One the Head football coach is involved with the feeder system. And as matter of fact he should be. I hope that he has them running the same offense and defensive schemes that they are going to be running at the high school program. Second is the weight lifting program. The football program the I am involved with lifts 3 days a week for about 15 mins a day. Any good program has a solid weight lifting program.

It is a crying shame the these young men cannot get their grades together so they can play athletic sports. In Akron that is a huge issue. To much talent is sitting in the stands instead of being on the field. I hope that it is not the issue at Springfield. But if you cannot eat dinner there is no dessert.

Any kid playing football should live in a wrestling room, in a weight room, on a basketball court, or any "high intensity training" sport that they like (baseball makes my kid fat 20lbs a season guarenteed!!). Don't let them go back to the playstation or x-box until the weather breaks in spring... once they are 13 or older they should be training in some capacity all year round. I dont say this to be a "Super Trainer Sports Dad" i just believe in todays enviroment to compete for scholarships you cannot rely on talent alone anymore, you wont get the free ticket to college... your kid has to be 1.talented, 2.self motivated(tough one), 3.get good grades, 4.be responsible(impossible), and 5.able to stay out of trouble(unlikley). Wow i just depressed myself... I need to get off Yappi and start being a better parent...

The near future is bright for springfield football.. there are people involved now who really care and have a good sense of the direction needed for building a "Program".. the numbers issue is still troubling to me at this point i see some gaps in some grades below 7th but maybe the anticipated success of the next couple years at the H.S. varsity level can fill the gaps because ultimately our future success as a "Program" being ressurected rely's on the next 3-5 seasons by the H.S. teams if they start to win and contend for some kind of conference championship or even state playoffs here pretty soon, all the little tweeks and changes to the "Program" made over the last season will start to fire like a fine tuned engine and numbers will be up, hopes will be up, kids will lose that "were from Springfield were supposed to lose its OK" attitude that came from years of bad decisions by people running the "Program" into the ground from the H.S. level down to the youth program. it will cause a chain reaction of pride in this community that it so badly needs....

Who will be the 7th grade coach next year. I demand a answer in 5 minutes! Last year Vaughn strung out the jr high so long it was to late to recover. I would hate to see it at 7th grade next year. The byf is the best thing for Springfield and to literal see a ton of kids playing 4 plus quarters of playing time was the shiznit. Since we wont have a syf league next year is ED ready to suit up another 10 kids? I think it was either 10 or 15 maybe on a sunny day that will need equipment. That will put the BYF at a number @200 plus. I don't know the actual numbers, but what the heck it was the shiznit.

Polster,
i will be the 7th grade head coach next year.... Irish is moving down to pick up a c-division team. only problem is numbers with this next a-division group... we only had 7 sixth grade kids in our program this season and probably 7-10 in the other league (that was their strongest following) we need at least 20 players (30 idealy) to entertain the ideal of a varsity and jv format for 7th grade kids next year... somebody needs to put the kabash on the fall baseball for kids in that grade we are lossing some good players to that fall baseball situation spring/summer is baseball season.... if we do not get enough kids to play a 7th grade only team then we may be forced to go without an a-division team in the byf next season which will suck but the 7th grade boys will be able to play for the JH if no youth team is available (competition will be fierce there particularly next year) and BYF does not demand that we have an a-division team to remain eligable for the league they are very flexable and understand each communities situations... but i will work hard on recruiting kids to have a 7th grade only team you never know what could happen we could get 30 kids or 15 kids depends on cooperation from certain people and recruitment help from Vaughn...

I think, as long as the QB's dad's son carries the ball 99% of the time, and scores all the TD's, you should not have any problems with him. :)

I see a motive here. Its not clear to me yet. If you guys are to volunteer your time at the youth again to make it better then I wont have it. Irish on the other hand!@@!@#$%!%. Is the porta potty job still vacant? I need a mission. Recruit 71!
