How did it go last night? I heard there was table dancing. I knew I shouldnt of cashed in those 1's.

Didn't see any table dancin, but everything went well. The kids enjoyed being called up on stage to receive their Trophies. All in all, it was a nice celebration for these kids, on a very successful season. Bring your appetite because there will be plenty of food.
In the near future, I believe the local Cable Channel 15 will be broadcasting the event.

Despite all the choking and tearing up at the podium last night I was totally impressed with the awards banquet. Even my wife started tearing up. Thanks JOE &%$@%@. You guys did a heck of a job. I couldn't stop thinking of the kids in the syf camp that missed out. Great great job sbyf-syfl!!!!

I thought it was way better then having pizza in the rain... it was nice to see things get all warm and fuzzy last night... those are the roots of pride and tradition lost starting to creep back into our community. i dont know everyone seemed to enjoy it i know i did...
now lets get ready for the Night at the Races 11-22-08.... that should be real warm and fuzzy:thumb: :thumb:

believe me there is a small army of volunteers and coaches working to make this happen.. we know as does our HS coach the formula to future success, from the youth program working to increase numbers every year, to proper fundementals being taught and quality playtime for all kids, and to the HS's working on disipline and eligability amoung HS players...
dont be suprized if things turn around here rather quickly (1-2 years) due to some talented classes coming thru the system currently but we are also focusing on setting up for the long haul with a true feeder system already in place which the rewards of it are a couple years away, and parents/volunteers in the community are becoming more involved with actual recruitment of our kids to get them out there to play football.:) :)

I remember the spartans in the 70's when i was a teen. They were a powerhouse. I remember thinking; "damn those guys are big and good."
Will it become those days again?

Polster,
I know you don't want to hear this, but in my opinion, unless they pass a Levy in the near future, the risk of losing more kids to other Districts or Privates is very possible. There are a group of kids in the next 2 - 3 years, that have a good potential to leave, if the Schools don't show signs of life. And when I say potential, I'm referring to some of their ties already, to the Privates. Not to mention, we will not have any good athletes come into our school system, that could make our team better as well. Test scores are up, don't get me wrong, but the overall outlook of our Schools is dim. I think its vital, that a Levy is passed in the next year, if we want a succesful Football team at the High School. If the group of 7th, 8th and 9th graders can stick together, stay out of trouble and maintain grades, they could compete in their Conference. jmo

its been awhile now since we have tried a levy. i think the next time it is on the ballot will be a crucial barometer... i hope Springfield gets this passed and continues down the road to recovery and then continues to excell... looks like some of our neighboring districts are just now heading into the choppy waters we have be navigating for years. i dont wish it on anyone but soon Springfield will be envyed by the same ones who laugh and make fun of our community/district now... life is a circle what goes around comes around.
OK here i go on a rant...bear with me......
Springfield needs to and has trimmed some fat. they really need to look at replacing some Principals at Schrop and Springhill and yes this is the reason we (Metzgars) have left the Springfield district and others have as well(Donahues).. people who run schools should use their years of formal professional training to help mold these kids when problems occur not flex their muscle and power trip to alienate/expell them from their school:wallbang: :wallbang: :wallbang: as much as i want my kid to stay in Springfield and believe me he is kicking and screaming wanting to stay, we are gone for next year... the only way i will bring my kids back and you can call me an arse for saying this on Yappi is if they get rid of Principal Varden i know of quite a few who would agree with me on this one.....
i have coached allot of kids thru the years who were constantly in trouble at Schrop and Springhill, i saw the problems they can create on a football team/classroom enviroment being i coached at schrop's/springhill's grade levels for 4 years, but without a teaching degree or any formal counseling training, i talk to, work with, and make these kids productive team members who become respectfull or at least managable players. why cant a Principal who is paid $80-100,000 a year do it??? and dont tell me they are totally different scenarios thats BS, they have allot more resources available to them than i as a volunteer youth football coach... i just think they dont like the headaches and getting rid of them is easier than helping mold them into produtive students/citizens.... which by the way is their job.... sorry to vent on here but i will never be over this my kid got the shaft big time....12 years old 6th grader first time caught fighting expelled for rest of school year and labled bully.. thanks Varden for helping my kid when he needed it most.... word of advice if your kid get into a fight in school tell him to lose.... yeah right.. i need to go see a counsiler about this maybe i have some pain and suffering going on...

IYO what would you like to see happen. If a parent has the money to send there kid to a private school then they are doing pretty darn good in my book. Minus the voucher program. Hey its frustrating but WTF, I have to work with the cards dealt to me. All I can tell people is to ask questions, go to the board meetings. Make a change, vote for someone else on the school board. I do here they were approved for the grant money for new schools but not official yet. I will tell you this Irish, if you run for school board I will guarantee you will win. Test me because I know some people who are looking for a candidate and need one soon to represent change and transparency. I would run but we all know convicts cant be around young school boys

I am calling out any parent who wants to run for board. Clean record a must and I can pretty much gaureentee a victory. Have I ever lied when I said that?

We know one board member that will tell you strait up that the good ole boy network is alive and well at the school board. That's not my words they are his. He needs back-up and somebody with a clean record needs to step up and quit complaining and run. Just imagine Irish, me heckling you from the back row. That would be a dream for me:) There are three seats going up next year.
