So who is going to be the favorite going into this next season of HS Hockey.
Moeman10
10-13-08, 07:50 PM
the usuals
and as usual it won't matter...
turbocelica
10-15-08, 08:50 PM
well that makes no sense?
Moeman10
10-16-08, 07:52 AM
it makes sense to those in the hockey world, and you're probably right ab11
turbocelica
10-16-08, 12:27 PM
well who are the usual's because it is changing every year, moe seems to be on the decline and other schools are upcoming. Fyi i played hs hockey in swo so i am in the (Hockey world)
Well then if you've been in the hockey world you'd know that other than the cville team from 80 no team coming from the Columbus/ swo district has done anything but been utterly embarassed at states. We are the doormat for the state champs... Welcome to the reality of the hockey world

ok good well, once again did i say whos the favorite from sw ohio to win state or was it whos the favorite in SWO? Because I asked who is gonna good in SWO. So once again because the literacy levels on these boards are at an all time low. WHO WILL BE THE BEST TEAM IN SWO THIS YEAR?
Moeman10
10-20-08, 08:26 AM
Moeller, X, Talawanda, and maybe a few others....
Moeman10
10-20-08, 08:27 AM
we are anything but down,
Eric Smith
Drew Rosselot
Nate Han
Ryan Boyd
Paul Gunza
Kyle Bobay
just to name a few good players
and John Manibusan in Goal

Moeller will return a strong squad on paper. Who returns from last year's Alter team? As I recall they one very good forward and one very good D.
Moeman10
10-20-08, 11:01 AM
and if you look at some of the summer scrimmages, although it was summer, we should still be very good, considering the teams were split in half equally

thanks guys thats the kinda input i was hoping for, didnt sycamore do well last year ? are they expected to be down this one?
slewfoot
10-20-08, 02:52 PM
Sycamore lost there top two players (typical for H.S.), but should still be compettitive.
St X also graduated their top two scorers, but has some strong seniors returning this year.
Everyone from the SWOSHL north will be down, and Moe and X will be alright... But yet again it won't matter, it doesn't even really warrant conversation lol
Southwest Ohio has been down so much the past few years and look worse than some of the JV teams of a few years back.

I believe X made the final 4 last year and lost 4-2 to Gilmour (one of the top teams in the state.). They also notched a victory over previous yrs state champs St Johns.
SW Ohio teams are definitely not as deep as the Cleveland teams, but on a given night can beat any of them.
Thats the problem with the set up of the final four, a team from southwest/central Ohio gets into states and even though the last two years have actually been a signifigant improvement at states (haven't been used as a doormat for the future state champions) and hopefully teams from around the area will eventually make it to the championship game but I just don't see it happening for quite some time, no one cares enough down here to put together an elite program that can compete year in and year out like they devote to football or schools other major sports
On a side note is Han still a beast I played with that kid when he was a freshman and he had everything to be an elite defenseman, I'm surprised he's still playing for moe

ab11, why are you such a debbie downer? your unrelenting negativity surrounding southwest ohio teams suggests a personal history of embarrassment at the hands of one of them. care to explain?
I played for a southwest Ohio team, one that doesn't deserve to be apart of the ohsaa, but I played for one none the less.
I'm so downward speaking of SWO hockey because it just can't even come close to most of the northern teams.
IMO they should be swallowed back up and put with Toledo teams and earn their way into the final four

Brosef, I understand that Cincy may not be an ohio hockey powerhouse. You still need to support your own, however. You're depressing me with you attitude. Did you enjoy going to elder?

he can't score, and is TOO generous with the puck, he never looks for himself so to speak
Look at my location, and we had signifigant amounts of talent we just had no coaching. I guess I am bitter about southwest ohio hockey and a bit of a downer because I played up in cleaveland and they actually take it seriously, unlike down here

ab
you played for Springboro, but you played once up in Cleveland???
I get it.
We all wish HS hockey in SW Ohio was like it is in Minnesota or Chicago or Detroit, but this is football / baseball country. Just try to enjoy it for what it is. There are some fine players playing in SW Ohio.
Yes i'm sure i played up there... sorry i was on my ipod and i just wasn't paying attention to spelling
There are alot of fine players in southwest ohio but most of them don't play high school, speaking of elder tho are they in the league now?
if so... i feel bad for the swoshl even more hahaha

Thats the truth, also Moeller tied St. Francis, the number 2 team in the state at the time, in a tornement in toledo

Yup.
And last year Talawanda and Sycamore could have knocked off anyone in the state on a given night too. Maybe not consistantly, but on a given night.

Thats what I'm trying to say, especially in the playoffs it dosent come down to skills as much as it comes down to who shows up to play on a given night

My opinion.
Last year Moeller, St. X, Talawanda amd Sycamore (maybe Alter) could beat any of the Columbus teams.
They could also beat the top Cleveland or Toledo teams 2-3 times out of 10.
Winning State is a long shot, but not impossible!

i don't know about sycamore, but definitely talawanda. moe. and x.

moe is a regular up in cleveland now, ask most people with the program and they'll tell you that as well. Moe has had some reasonable success up there .

Here's how I see it:
1) Moeller
2) St X
3) Talawanda
4) Alter
5) Sycamore
6) Beavercreek
7) Centerville
8) Troy
9) Springboro
'Creek could finish higher because they have goaltending but not into the top 3, St X and Talawanda are probably interchangeable ( that on any given day thing)....I think Moeller is again the favorite to win the league, but can they get it done?
Thats always been a problem for them. Last year they were #1 in the district and ranked in the top 10 for the entire state and still couldn't win the league :wallbang:
Yea, they were also knocked out in the second round of state by Alter
speaking of which how does Alter look this year, I, know they faired well last year but did their two stars graduate or what? because that's what I have been hearing
Moeman10
10-30-08, 11:13 AM
*fared
and yes.
I believe one of their best players last year is returning. He is a D-man , but as far as I know their other 2 players graduated last year.
Yea, i remember that they had some kid from Minnesota and that was the kid that I knew was graduating. Speaking of kids that aren't from here that played, didn't St. X lose a stud from Germany or something??
slewfoot
10-31-08, 07:43 AM
The exchange student from Germany is gone, but he was far from a stud.

O my bad, i was just going on word of mouth I never actually saw the kid
slewfoot

i think your talking about two different kids. Two seasons ago the exchange student was from Sweden and was pretty good. Last season I believe the student was from Germany and was nat nearly as strong a player.

Yeah, its D1 and i go to the school and I don't even hear much about the baseball program.
I hear more about that than the hockey program...

tryouts for swohshl teams are this weekend.
A quick look at the varsity schedules for Moeller, St X and Tally show that they are playing the top teams in the state. (St. Iggy, St John, St Francis, Gilmour, Parma, Univ School etc). Nice schedules boys!
4 or 5 years ago the top teams from up North would not even look at a team from Cincy.
Kudos to local hockey!

Moeman10
12-01-08, 08:40 AM
a good start, but i heard we let the southview game go?
Yeah, up 4-2 and #14 on SV scores 2 goals in 30 seconds, then the rest of the game penalties killed us.
It was more of 1 penalty with about 2:30 left, when you say penalties that is implying that there were several of them but the ones that were actually there were just at the most inopportune times.... but we should also put into effect that the game where Moeller did not get very many penalties they lost... I don't get it
