Dublin Jerome, Upper Arlington take district titles
Wednesday, October 8, 2008 3:09 AM

Senior Aaron Seikmann shot a 69 to win medalist honors and freshman Chad Merzbacher shot a 73 to lead Dublin Jerome to the Division I boys golf district championship yesterday at Apple Valley.

Jerome, the defending state champion, shot a 294. Watterson, led by Brendon Jenkins with a 72, finished second with a 303. Upper Arlington was third with a 307. Mount Vernon was fourth (310), St. Charles (314) was fifth and Pickerington North and Hilliard Davidson tied for sixth (322).

The top three finishers qualified for the state tournament next weekend at the Ohio State Scarlet Course.

Individual qualifiers were TT Crouch of Mount Vernon with a 74 and Ryan Berg of St. Charles with a 75.

Upper Arlington shot a 330 and edged Watterson by one stroke to win the Division I girls district championship at Bent Tree. Both teams advance to the state tournament at the Ohio State Gray Course next weekend. Dublin Jerome was third with a 340.

Junior Samantha Swinehart of Lancaster won medalist honors after winning a tiebreaker with junior Alex Brown of Upper Arlington. Both shot 74s. Swinehart advanced to the state tournament as an individual qualifier as did Courtney Yamamoto of Pickerington North, who shot a 78.

Lakota East, St. X, and Moe advance to State from the Southwest district.

East - 297
X - 302
Moe - 310

Moe advances for the 7th straight year and I think this is X's 5th straight year. Two very impressive streaks. It will be interesting to see if Javed and Tepe can carry East up at Scarlet. That course is unforgiving. Javed played it last year, so I think he will be in the running for the individual title, but it will be interesting to see if the other East players can step up. Moe and X both have lots of experience up there so they should be ready.

Don't forget about Korey Ward (LW). 1st GMC (72, 72), 1st sectionals (67), 1st District (70) He's on fire right now.

From the LW website looks like he's had a bunch of subpar rounds.

Korey Ward is on a hot streak.
Good player,l long and pretty straight, his short game has been on the past few weeks.

If he stays hot he has a good chance at State.

Hopefully we'll get some strong performances from Cincy schools at state, they all seem fairly strong.
Good luck to them all.

Anybody know what Jerome's score was at the Wooster invitational the first year they had it? I remember it being just outrageous-like two kids were under par and the others like one over?!
