Dublin Jerome, Upper Arlington take district titles

Senior Aaron Seikmann shot a 69 to win medalist honors and freshman Chad Merzbacher shot a 73 to lead Dublin Jerome to the Division I boys golf district championship yesterday at Apple Valley.
Jerome, the defending state champion, shot a 294. Watterson, led by Brendon Jenkins with a 72, finished second with a 303. Upper Arlington was third with a 307. Mount Vernon was fourth (310), St. Charles (314) was fifth and Pickerington North and Hilliard Davidson tied for sixth (322).
The top three finishers qualified for the state tournament next weekend at the Ohio State Scarlet Course.
Individual qualifiers were TT Crouch of Mount Vernon with a 74 and Ryan Berg of St. Charles with a 75.
Upper Arlington shot a 330 and edged Watterson by one stroke to win the Division I girls district championship at Bent Tree. Both teams advance to the state tournament at the Ohio State Gray Course next weekend. Dublin Jerome was third with a 340.
Junior Samantha Swinehart of Lancaster won medalist honors after winning a tiebreaker with junior Alex Brown of Upper Arlington. Both shot 74s. Swinehart advanced to the state tournament as an individual qualifier as did Courtney Yamamoto of Pickerington North, who shot a 78.
