I'll start out by saying that I've brought this up before on other forums, but it is such a sore subject with me I just can't let it go. Maybe I need to seek professional help, I don't know. "It's all about halftime", let's change that to "It's all about making me PUKE". I have trouble counting the numerous ways that those shirts are insulting. I'd like to call for the administration to ban these shirts from all school property at all times. I'm sure there would be major problems if some football player wore a shirt that said "Screw the band", right? So why can so many people get away with wearing shirts that pretty much says the same thing about the football team? Why can't you band people just get shirts that say "We're proud of our band" or even "Best damn band in the land"? At least then you're not belittling the team. My brother coaches a team down in Virginia, the Buffalo Gap Bison. Last year they were the div. 4 Virginia state champs, and you know what, I was in Virginia this weekend at one of their games and since it was an away game, their band didn't even go to the game. Kind of puts it into perspective doesn't it. I'm not saying not to proud of our band, Springfield's band is very good, (probably 1/4 of the boys should be playing football, but that will work itself out with the BYF) just be proud of them without insulting the team!
Just a warning, I've been saving my ketchup packets from McDonald's and the next "It's all about halftime" shirt I see I'm going to open a ketchup packet barrage!!!

Do what Wisconsin did yesterday, suspend the band from the game.

there are ways to handle this problem. First of all, i have seen a band get up and leave after the halftime show was over and done with. That also took about 1/2 of the fans in the stands as well. All the young men and ladies n eed the support of each other. The football team cannot support the band at halftime but they can in other ways. I think that maybe you should write a letter to the school adminastration expressing your disapproval of the saying of the shirt. Not that the band should be allowed to sell shirts to help raise money but the saying on the shirt should not be allowed. If other football parents feel the same way you do then they also should write a letter. Question Buckeye29, one that does not concern football. Did Coach Ritch step down as baseball coach? If he did who is ther replacement. I know someone that is interested in appling if there is an opening. Thanks:thumb:

Although, I don't know the first thing about the band, other than that they play at halftime, and that they would look pretty silly marching around in the middle of a cornfield if no game were to be played. I really don't see a problem with those shirts. If the band is good, they should be proud. Why shouldn't they? Give me a reason that they shouldn't be proud if they have earned it? That's what I don't get. I have a feeling that your band has won more competitions than your football team and it boils down to simple jealousy.
My suggestion would be to worry about why your schools are failing or something more of consequence.

I never said they shouldn't be proud, but they don't need to show their pride by insulting the team!!!!! What don't you get? Don't be ashamed that you were either an ex band--- or a band parent. Be proud, like you said. I've never heard anyone but band people say they like those shirts. Come out of the closet smash, you were a tuba player weren't you.

Wrong about the instrument, I prefer making women sing.
My point is, why are you gonna complain about a shirt, when you have soooooo many other issues to deal with. It just seems very trivial. Those kids should be proud. I really hope your football team turns it around; and although it did come across that way, it wasn't intended as a knock on your football team. Buckeye29 just sounds like he has some sour grapes.

Even if your teaming was winning the slogan "Its all about half time"does seem to say forget about the game and just be there for half time. I think it would suggest the football and the band people dont get along. But also the band might feel intimidated because they would have nothing to do without a football program. But they could still have football with out a band. But from the other thread if the school people recieved a few letters from people saying they felt it wasnt right to say, they would get rid of it.

Not sour grapes smash, I just think the band should learn their place in the whole pecking order. No football-No halftime, No band-quite halftime! Maybe the football team should put that on a t-shirt.

Maybe if the band would play something different I would enjoy them more. I think they have been playing the same music since the last win in 05. I feel like I am at club energy listening to the same ole music over and over.http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p312/neverbeendone/smilies/tearhair.gif

Here we can agree, no football no halftime. I didn't actually say it that plainly, but meant the same thing earlier, must not have been clear.

Point taken.
That's all the band folks have though, halftime. Let them have that. It could be all they ever have. If Springfield was winning, I really don't think a t shirt slogan would matter. We can agree to disagree though.

This is an old post of mine and I don't feel like typing it again so here is the quote...
O.K. I'm assuming I am the only band F@g reading and posting here. I did play in the band and not football :wallbang: in high school and I explained a bit in another post why. I graduated in 1988 and we didn't wear or even have those crappy "it's all about halftime" shirts, and I wouldn't have wore one if we did have them. We were there to SUPPORT the FOOTBALL team and we did it well. It is true fall is Football season, but in my opinion High school football isn't complete if you don't have (in the background where they should be) the band playing. Springfield's band is good and should be proud of their hard work and accomplishments... but they should be ashamed of themselvs for wearing those embarassing shirts. It's egotistical, and slap in the face of every football player, booster club member, Coach, alumnist and anyone else that has anything to do with the School or Football program. It angered me the past few seasons to show up at almost every home game and about half of the away games to see Springfields Bleachers clear out at the start of the 3rd quarter. Last year at the Kent ( I think) away game the band was running over on time and the football team came out and started warming up kinda making the band rush things and if I remember right made them move their end row over a bit. The people I was sitting by had a daughter in the band ( I didn't know that until she came up to talk to her parents). They had the nerve to complian to their daughter "that wasn't right for the football team to come out on the field to warm up while you were still playing, that's disrespectful to the band." I almost fell out of the bleachers I was sooooo mad I wanted to punch her dad. Bottom line is the band needs to know it's role and play it!!! (wile in the background)
