Irish suckered me into picking the Spartans last week, but it seems they had a pretty good showing.
KenMo got their first win in 22 tries against Norton a couple of weeks ago. I think this is your best shot for a "W".

GRPride,
my bad. I hadn't predicted a Spartan win in 3 years, just thought they were due. I was wrong. No prediction from me this week.

There is a very talented group of 7th graders coming up through the system. I still think they are 1 - 2 speedsters away from being a very good and competetive Team in HS. Good news is, they have 2 years before they get there. With some hard work and dedication, this group of kids will impact the future of the HS program in a good way. There are a lot of new faces on the Team this year, as well as many playing un-familiar positions due to the no weight limit League(BYF). As these kids settle in to these new positions and gain experience, they will be that much better.
I can only speak for the 7th graders as far as Grades are concerned, but we will be checking Progress Reports, and discussing with Parents if punishment is an option for failing classes. We have also offered to assist with the players, before practice, on any Homework/Subject that they may need assistance with.
Overall there are some hardnosed players who enjoy hitting, coming through. Work ethic and dedication is something that may need some improvement. The potential is there, it is up to the kids to take on the challenge. Hopefully the parents will show some patience as these players adjust from playing Youth ball, to playing MS and HS ball. Allow the coaches to develope these kids, the way they see fit that best suits the team.
Added: 8th and 9th graders have some talent, but numbers are a little low. Although the kids playing Football in these 2 grades have a lot of heart to go with their abilities. Combine these 3 classes and I see wome W's in the near future.
I read the paper that said Springfield was tied with Revere 0-0 at halftime and only lost 20-7 last week at Southeast.
I am not trying to be funny when I say that they look like they are improving. Good luck.

I did not make a prediction, that was the freshman score.
But My prediction will go like this, we will get into the red zone 5 times. Scoring will be up tp the coaches play calling. I cant jinks these kids anymore.

Speaking from a coaches point of view, it will also be up to the players execution of the play call. :)

Speaking from a arm chair QB veiw.I know its up to the players but you have to trust your players and not resort to just the QB to get you to the promise land.

play calling has been real consistant, we can expect to see qb roll out ten times,we can see a couple of streach plays, and on some long yardage plays we can look for a zillion rb draw plays. and pass when we really dont have to. lets just buckle down to some hard nose smashmouth football for once.... go spartans whip on some norton a-- tonight.............

Our line isn't the greatest but Talbert and errington were getting the job done up inside. If the coach cant establish a ground game to control the clock then he will be in trouble the rest of the year. yours truly ARMCHAIR

as an old offensive coordinator myself i loved to run between the tackles it is basic smashmouth football i stay there till they stack the box to stop me or i see something else.... i wonder why our HS team passes so much??? our qb is a better running qb than passiing he has great feet and legs if you pound the ball up the middle he would be open for some big gainers on boots and qb sweeps later on... if your offense is 3 and out most of the time eat some clock with more runs keep the score down shorten the game give your defense a chance to rest, pick and chose your spots for the homerun... with that being said our recievers need to make more plays i watched last week and the coaches were making some good calls offensively i just saw allot of dropped balls that were catchable and not to mention penalties... stupid non play effecting penalties that cost them points... the offense is complex and IMO can confuse defenses at times but in reality it comes down to execution with these guys if they execute tonight they bring us a victory that this community badly needs... good luck Spartans stay focused and disciplined and you will win!
