Only one team had a victory all day vs. Ellet, that was the oldest vasristy team which won in dramatic fashion in overtime. The varsity team has a lot of athletic and some real big kids, but their line does not fire out or block anyone which leaves it up to the backs to get yards on their own. The quarterback who is very small, is fast, with good moves, but cannot pass the ball at all. With any passing attack, of course to do that you must a line that can block, would be one of the best in the area. They are pretty good defensively too. The youngest team, which is coached by the Springfield BYF Director Ed Ellis might be the worst football team in youth history. These boys have obviously been taught EVERYTHING that Director/coach Ellis knows about football, which is absolutley nothing, because at one point they had a first and 10 at their 35 yard line, and after 6, YES 6 consecutive false starts penalties, they ended up getting tackled in the end zone for a safety. They probably were negative 100 yards on offense and from the defensive side of the ball, Ellet could have scored on every play if they would have wanted to. It was only a few years ago when now director Ellis was the equipment mgr. for his son's pee wee team and he admitted " I don't know anything about football but I want to be out here for my son". I recall a few years ago when my daughter was a cheerleader for Springfield Youth, they had some great younger teams, a few went 7-1 and 8-0, but I guess because those coaches kids' either moved up or they were banned from coaching because they knew more about football than then Director King. So King who was an equipment mgr. also knew absolutely nothing about football or how to treat people, turned over the reigns of the league to Ellis, who is pretty much cut from the same mold. Keep, dad's coaching their son's so they can play the premier positions and run the ball every play, and run out the coaches who played football, coached fairly to all the kids and were successful. I bet those coaches took their kids to other programs which are ran by football people because they grew tired of the people and politics.

These kind of comments and views are the exact reason Springfield Athletics is in poor condition. I have never seen a community so negative about everything that goes on. They are never happy. Prime example is the post above. Instead of being supportive and congratulating the A team for their hard fought double overtime win against a tough Ellet Team, Spartans81 has to spin it and turn it into a negative one a bash the Director and Coaches in the League. Thanx for supporting your program 81, now go away because you and people like yourself are a cancer to an entire Community.
These kids are 7 , 8 and 9 years old for petes sake.

Irish, I no longer have kids in the Springfield program, I was there observing from the visitors side of the field watching some of my friends children who play and cheer for Ellet, I was making some casual observances. My comments were made from an unbiased standpoint and was only saying that it wasn't too long ago that some teams of 7.8 and 9 years olds were coached properly and had some very successful seasons unlike now when the head coach/directors team can't even get into a 3 point stance or go on the snap count. Sounds like you have a vested interest, possibly coach or director.
And for Green65 Champs....funny about the drunk coach. Not me, know who your talking about, another non football, drinking buddy of the former director.

Understood, maybe I was a little harsh on you, but what I say has been the norm over the last 12 years, since I have been residing in the Township. It sounded like you were another disgruntled Parent, looking to drag peoples name through the mud and stir up trouble.
I am the Head Coach for the A team and President of the League. Everyone has an opinion on things. I don't have a problem with that. The problem I have, is the way opinions are expressed in this town, with no concern about peoples reputations or feelings. People start rumors, just to see how far they can go. Why not get involved to help resolve the matter? Its easy to sit back and bash people, when you(not you personally) have not put the effort to try and help. In your post, it sounded like you have a problem with the way things were ran in the past under the previous Director and/or current Director. No problem there, but to then go on a call somebody else out, and not even be around the Program to know whats going on, is just wrong. I would be interested in some names of coaches that have been run out, by any current Members of our League, and the reasons you feel they were run out? I've been around this Program now for 12 years, and can give you reasons why just about every coach left, or did not return as Coach.
Whats in the past is just that, in the past. We are moving on and are trying to re-build the Youth, so kids can have more fun and be more succesfull in the years to come.

Good points, taken with sincerity and non-offensive. I agree and was also harsh with some statements. I don't know who those coaches were that were there a few years ago, I just remember them having good teams that was fun to watch while my daughter was helping out with cheerleading, my guess is they put in their time and moved on after their kids were finished with the program. I want to see the program improve, but as my kids are all grown, work dictates and I just don't have time to help. Good luck to you coach and I hope that the program can continue to improve and help the high school and jr. high teams for the future.
