What's It Look Like For the GCL South

Now that most of the teams have been picked how will it go down in the GCL South in 2008? Who is the team to beat? Who are the best players? Any information anyone can provide would be appreciated.

Dang, I know the GCL south's main focus is football this time of year but come on, someone has to have something to share about their soccer teams. :confused:

x will be strong, returning around 12 varsity players. defense should be a strong point

i heard lasalle lost to fairfield 7-0 in scrimmage? obviously you cant take too much stock in a preseason scrimmage, but 7-0 is pretty bad so who knows

supposedly moeller should be decent

elder has schaeffer up top, he should be a force. other than that i dont know about them

I think Elder is going to struggle to score this year. Defense should be solid, but scoring will be a challenge. I think X will be the class of the GCL.

Watch out for Elder then Moeller as a sleeper. Both coaches are excellent and will get the best out of their players

What happened last night at the St. X / Mason scrimmage? Mason's website had it was 3-1 Mason over St. X. Did not go to the game and was wondering if it was mistake. Thought St. X would do better than that. Was anyone at the game? Not to take anything away from Mason, but that would be huge surprise.

Mason won 3-1. X had some chances but Mason pretty much out played them physically.

I did hear that X was without one of their starting forwards but still...this result does not surprise me at all. Mason is going to be stronger than people expect them to be after losing so many quality players.

elder will come in third in gcl south i think it will be between lasalle and x. moeller didn't have a very good team last year and i don't think they will this year either.

Hope you're right...They do have a great coach, but they lost a ton of talent from last years squad. They brought up alot of young talent from last years JV team. I think they have 7 seniors and the rest are juniors and sophmores. Elder's JV squad will be very good this year.

I think that GCL-S is a toss-up. Really between X, Moe, Elder and im not sure about Lasalle (could be a sleeper) Should be interesting

I really only see St. X being the hands down winner of this conference...they have a great midfield and defense plus good forwards and a very solid keeper...they really have no weaknesses and as long as they can play together as a team I think they should run away with this conference.

Yea, you played well enough to get beat by both Lakota EAST & Sycamore EAST or whoever you thought you played. # 10 would have been schooled by either of those two midfields. We'll see if your opinion of yourself is very good on the 27th.:laugh:

Congratulations LaSalle for making it to the Sweet 16. Back in late Sept when you were 2-6-2 and half your losses to D-2 & D-3 teams I thought you were finished.
