#5

City: (Cincinnati)

#1 Milford
#2 Mason
#3 Anderson?
#4 Sycamore

Considering the team from Dayton / Cincinnati last year (Elder) got pounded by the eventual state champion Hilliard Davidson, I don't know yet that I would put a Cincinnati or Dayton team in the top five.

I don't know enough about Dayton, but certainly Carroll should be in the mix somewhere.

Cincinnati top five would be, in my opinion, in no particular order:

West
St X
Elder (good coach)
Mason
Fairfield
Milford

Yes, I know there are six but all these teams, I think on any given day could beat each other. Could throw even more in the mix as well. Possibly Loveland or Sycamore.

out of curiosity - why do you feel this way? I havent seen them play or know a lot about them but I'd have to think they have some talent left in the pipeline.....strengths/weaknesses?

thanks!

I agree with you a Cincinnati team or Dayton team COULD win the state and be ranked up there now, but I was more responding to the initial post by dgains saying Beavercreek, Centerville and Milford are numbers one, two and three in state. I'm a local "homer" too, but not to that extent. I would love to see a Cincy or Dayton team win state. No offense meant to local teams, I just don't agree you can put three Cincy Dayton teams at the top...yet anyway.

they lost so much. they have a good striker up top, but outside of that are they returning any starters?

you'd know more than me - I was just asking for some insight. I don't follow them closely except last year when they made their tourney run and we had a great time watching them...

I agree with this top 5 in Cincy D1, but in my opinion Milford is just a little better than the others heading into the season. As for Dayton D1 teams, I don't know what Beavercreek, Centerville, & Fairmont bring back but I am sure they will be strong. Wayne apparently has a pretty good team as well from what I hear.

In Cincy/Dayton D2, Carroll looks to be the team to beat. I don't see Alter, Bellbrook, or CJ challenging them. Can Indian Hill or Finneytown?

Cincy D3 Summit, Seven Hills, & Mariemont are the top contenders.

OK,

I have done some quick homework for you guys who are interested in other areas stronger teams. Seems Hilliard Davidson, last year's state champ lost most of their core. Massillon Jackson returns seven of their starters. That was Div 1 state runner up last year. They were beat by Mentor, who was forced to forfeit for two ineligible players.

Seems with that info, you would have to consider MJ a top five pick this year. Any other Columbus, Cleveland, Akron or Toledo teams anyone knows about?

In the dayton area its gonna be either beavercreek or centerville. those are the only two teams that are gonna have a chance at state. Wayne not only lost more then half there team but two key seniors this yr are not playing. Fairmont just isnt good since skeeter left.

i heard since they graduated those seniors last year that they aren't looking to great. someone told me they lost 4-1 to some team in the pre season tournament. is this true?

CVCA barely has enough kids to be D2, and OHSAA only re-districts every 2-years; so they are still D2.

They were a young team last year. They are just as strong this year. They still have two varsity teams and a JV team. All depends on how good the competiton is as to whether they can repeat.

Walsh is down this year, so CVCA won't have a problem getting out of districts like they have in the past.

They did lose a lot of talent from last years team, but there is still plenty of talent on this team. I think they will do fine this year, plus they have a great coach. I just hope the defense steps up, i feel that is the weak spot, but im sure the Panthers will rise up to the challenge. Also, i don't think they lost 4-1, but i could be wrong.

Go Panthers

i don't think elder will be in the top 10 in the city by the end of the season.
What juniors do they have?

Messi

I just looked at Elder's schedule and I think if they aren't top 10 in the city, this is why...they play Fairfield, Sycamore, Carroll, Alter, Beavercreek, the GCL-S schools, Colerain. Half of their season is playing top 10 teams in the state/city.

I don't think Milford will be #1 or #2 by the end of the season. Too small. Any physically strong team that can play in the air and has a solid D will come out with a tie or a W against them. Milford talked alot last year about all of their skill then got smoked in the tourney, not by a team of superior skill, but just bigger, faster, stronger. Same thing will happen again this year.

milford probably plays every good gmc school, plus a strong favc this year.

i disagree with you on that, i feel the panthers will be in the top 10, also a junior to watch out for is Chad Thornton.

I know it was a scrimmage, but Elder and Mason tied 3-3. Elder looked really good as did Mason. Elder will finish in the top10 after seeing them play the way they did against the #2 team in Cincy.

I think the goal that was called back was because the AR ruled a ball had been out of bounds; play continued and a Turpin goal was scored and when they started lining up for the kickoff the AR (who must have had their flag up the entire time) finally communicated with the CR.. Soo.. I heard Turpin just outhuscled West though West appeared to be far more skilled. Nice win for Turpin and you don't see in the box score very often that the keeper gets a shutout and the game winning goal...
