The Ohio Cup is coming up next weekend and it looks like there are some great matchups and pairings within the groups. It's obviously early in preseason but should be an entertaining 3 days. Any thoughts?

Don't know if they categorize the divisions by merit or by season's expectations, but I was surprised to see St X in the second division. Perhaps I don't know what I'm talking about, but I would assume like most tournaments, the top division is the best teams. I would certainly not put St X in the second division if that is the case.

I am not 100% certain, but I believe it must be a combination of factors including merit, expectations, recommendations, etc. However, I agree with you that St. X should not be in the 2nd division unless this is not a full strength "varsity" level team available for the weekend. I also think Walnut and Loveland are both strong enough teams to be in the top division over Anderson and Colerain. You could swap out the out of town teams Bowling Green & McKinley but then there is no variety in the group.

If the Ohio Cup does like it used when it was in Dayton Area, the coach actually chooses where to go. In this case I would think that the St. X in question is either JV or Freshmen team.

the st x team is entirely composed of sophomores (aka jv).

OK, thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering. St. X had the best JV in town, IMO, last year. They should do well then, even against varsity. Some of the match ups should be good ones. Not that familiar with Bowling Green or Wayne in top bracket, but Mason v Finneytown and Mason v Anderson should be good games. Don't think that Canton McKinnley is that good (football school). Sycamore, Colerain and of course, Milford should all show well I would think. Not sure how much Colerain lost last year. I know Sycamore will be better this year than last.

mason should handle finneytown and carroll vs milford probably will be good. carroll should run the table and indian hill should roll in the second bracket except with the loveland game.

You are right about Carroll. Overlooked them before. They are a very solid team. Mason not sure about how they will do. They are just starting out all juniors and seniors on varsity, all sophs together as "JV". There are some of those sophs that could have a huge impact this year for Mason. I think Reedy might be using it just to gauge his players, not as a final roster by any means.

The Ohio Cup in no way should be looked at as the final roster for any team. Some guys are on vacation or attending camps for colleges and some aren't able to make it meaning that players will play on varsity when during the fall season they will be on JV. It's just a good prep for the season and is a good time for the coaches to get a mind set of their player's abilities. I wouldn't judge a team's ability by what they do in Ohio Cup b/c it's just not accurate.

Did not see all the games, but congrats to Wayne for good showing. Also, Loveland in the JV side really has some good players coming up. They will be really good next year and the following year. MUCH more impressed with their JV than with Milford and what they have coming up.

Didn't see any games but I did hear a few interesting items, any truths ?

#1 - Milfords freshman team went 4-0 outscoring their opponments 19-2 ?
They might be worth watching, coming up the next few years HSF.

#2 - Sycamore had some parent removed from the field by the authorities ?
How embarrassing is that ?

#3 - The ALL-STAR game was dominated by some Milford players ?

#4 - Not a big Milford supporter but congrats anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if a Sycamore parent was removed in one of their games based on sideline behavior I witnessed....but it was only a couple parents and certainly not all of them.

I thought the quality of play was pretty good for being so early in the season and some teams have only had 1 or 2 sessions with a ball. Wayne, Mason, Milford, Carroll, & Loveland all looked good to me. There were other teams that looked decent as well and overall it was a great weekend. I missed the Senior game so I can't comment on that.

#1 True, Milfords freshman are mostly brothers of the varsity kids and most of them are better as freshman than they were so they are definately an upcoming team to watch

#2 Not sure that the authorites were involved in the situation, but these two crazy --- foreigners came up to the ref's and started saying that they were racists and other things, nothing more to be said, just out of hand

#3 The all-star game was dominated by Milford players, all 4 had goals (Ben Jones, Tyler Huerkamp, Nathan Hudson, and Danny Haberer) Danny had an absolutely amazing side volley that went side netting past Morgan's fingertips

#4 2 ties vs dayton teams, but missing many starters, im sure they were to so im not gonna complain or make excuses, also 1-0 vs Sycamore on a punt from GK george, but again no Levine on sycamores side

the Dayton teams were missing players as well. Cant miscalculate that.
