View Full Version : Anyone know any good sophmore golfers?
I saw Craig Beidler from wadsworth playing at Firestone. He was driving at least 325 and was money on all of his putts. He ended up 6 under for the day and I can't think of anyone better then him. He is a big strong kid that will revolutionize the game by showing how important strength is because he is also a world class power-lifter. Look for him in the junior PGA next year.

6 under teeing off from the fairway if he is shooting 6 under there he would be on tour or at least i would have heard of him anyway
If the six under is true that's very impressive.
Sorry I looked this guy up on myspace and asked him. He said he only shot 3 under. Still pretty impressive! He said he has won 23 Long drive contests since middle school. So I think he is the real deal.

this kid can not be that good unless he did not play for his school. i played against wadsworth and i beat every player on their team by at least 8 strokes. so i dont know about everybody else but it seems to me like somebody is trying to make themselves look good. and it was probably the public course at firestone

Matt Wellman from Tallmadge, might make the state tournament: he is a beast.
I have heard about beidler. Actually i played with him the other day. He shot 10 under at Rawiga CC. I mean this kids iron play and short game is outrageous. Look for him atop the state leader board this fall:cool:

Kid from Lake, named Maranville is pretty solid.
on a serious note, anyone good kids from wadsworth?
I have seen a kid named Nate Moskowitz (also from wadsworth like Beidler) who has a great all around game. He has been lifting a lot for other sports and added distance to his drive, which used to be a weak point in his game. Watch for him to have a couple good outings and compete for the top Suburban League golfer.
im not an expert on golf but ryan majors from fairless is pretty good i heard but he will be a junior next year not a sophomore

Andrew Dorn (Moeller)
Korey Ward (Lakota West)
These will be two strong sophomores in the Cincinnati area.

6-under at Firestone? 15 yrs old? I'll assume it was from the whites. There are a lot of big-time drivers these days, but to have equal skill with irons and the putter is remarkable...especially for a 15 yr old. Most 15 year olds would rather have their eye-poked-out than work on their putting and short game.

didnt tiger woods already show that being strong and fit is an advantage so this kid wouldnt be showing us anything new. Every college and for what i know most high school golf teams have work out programs:shrug:

Playing Firestone from the blues, under tournament conditions is nothing like playing Firestone from the whites under "member" conditions.
The kids we are talking about wouldn't break 110 playing under tourney conditions.

ok dont get carried away lol if u shoot 6 under from the whites i think you would be able to manage a decent round from the blue very easily breaking 100

Reread my post. I didn't say he couldn't break 100 playing from the blues. I said he couldn't break 110 by:
- playing from the Blues
- playing under PGA Tournament conditions that Tiger & Co. must deal with
- Ankle deep rough
- playing ALL the way back
- Greens rolling at 13 or 14
- Pins in the toughest parts of the green.
Interesting article a few months ago in one of the Golf magazines, adressing this exact question...what would a single digit amateur handicapper score on a course set up for the pros.
Example: Carnustie...average answer was 120 - 125. Keep in mind...they were referring to amateurs with a 1- 3 handicap.

Ok i can see that being true but its one of those things you have to see to believe cuz its just that hard to see a golfer that can shoot that good somehow manage to shoot that bad........

Well that explains a lot....besides revere, possibly 1 team having a good year, and individuals, the suburban league golf is a joke, on par with the PTC. I pretty much know the entire Tallmadge team, and with the exception of wellmann and possibly their 2 guy, can beat them by 5 or 6 shots at their home course.

Not sure I would consider someone a stud golfer with a 39 avg. Now if he had a 36 avg that may be differant . Thats not going to win you many Tourney's in the Summer

Brooks Curry
Erik Gregory
Both from Middletown Christian. They both played in the state finals. MCS made its first ever trip to the state finals last year. With the team consisting of three freshman. Brooks Curry placed 6th overall and Erik Gregory placed in the top 25.
Brooks Curry also was the overall Cincinnati Enquire player of the year. He either won or placed second in every tournament last year. But, i think he won them all. All of them were at least -2 or more. Keep a close eye on this kid in the future. I know as a 8th grader he shot a 67 a pipestone to qualify for the Jr. national at Disney. This kid is already getting offers from d1.
Erik Gregory will move from the #3 golfer to the #2 golfer this year behind Curry. He has been taking lessons from former PGA professional Jim Neff. pro at Heatherwood Golf Course. From my understanding this year he is avg. a 38 for nine holes already this spring. This is also from the blue tee's at shaker run.
Curry also takes lessons from Larry King golf coach at Xavier University.
So keep an eye on these two buys for the next three years. you will be hearing a lot from them especially Brooks Curry.
