Glaze was a very good coach and AD, but he did have some good horses that he got to coach too. Anyone remember Anthony Gary? Or maybe Bo James? I don't want to take anything away from Jay because I do believe he was a great coach, but we haven't had that kind of talent since then. I'd actually love to see Jay come back to Springfield. I had the privilege of playing for Jay at Schrop. The fact is a coach can only do so much. I still think we need to get the kids motivated to want to play and want to win.

My point is that it can be done and done successfully. I know those kids you were talking about were good but it takes a team. Especially big linemen!

Buckeye is correct in his assessment. In fact, last year, if I'm not mistaken, they had a pretty big O-Line, but that did not result in success. Coaches need to keep these kids motivated, eligible and show them the benefits of being part of a successful Team.

polster,
thats what i like to here, some players need that father figure at school and someone who has their back as far as making grades and providing them with the extra study time to do so. i like what i am seeing going on here with KV.

its true what irish is saying, but the problem is tyler copen only had less than five years of experience as a lineman for being to big as a youth never had a chance to develope into his talent, and cory shnieder had even less than that, the shame of it is together they weighed over 600 lbs together
they just werent fundemental sound soon enough

Yes, but thats where the hard work and dedication come in. Why weren't these guys in the weight room the last 4 years, why didn't they go out and get some extra help(via Camps) or ask their coaches for extra work. I'm sorry, I think after 3 - 4 years of High School coaching, these kids should have developed somewhat. I agree to a degree, that not playing youth may have set them back a little, but they still had 8th grade, 9th grade, 10th grade, etc. I'm not arguing the fact that missing youth may have slowed their progress, I'm just saying a little extra effort on their own, may have made them better.

irish , i agree it does come down to how dedicated a player is ,how much desire the individual has, as far as the weight room .. you can lead a horse to water but you cant make them drink . the only problem with 3-4 years of coaching it doesnt breed compition within the line, when you dont have that outstanding lineman or two to set the tone for the rest(leadership) the only thing that can be done is to instill that desire at a early age besides you know as well as i do every day at youth practice if you had a quarter for the many times you had to say to a lineman get in a good three point stance you could have enough money to fix the levy, now picture a sixteen year old with litte experiance. you cant teach heart and you cant teach them how to finish someone off it comes from if the player gets it or not....

You made good points...the bold comments.........it comes from desire and drive, and you can give a kid all of the tools they need, but it does no good if they don't use them.
And being a big kid doesn't always make you a good lineman, especially if you are slower than molasses in January. (not saying anyone that you mentioned was).
On top of that already. Tutors are being used and some troubled kids have had there study hall put at the end of the day to help. Your boy KV is on top of the game.
You said about a month ago that KV was not qualified to be a Head Coach because he didn't get hired last year when Tony did, and suddenly he's "on top of the game?"
I guess you go whichever way the wind blows to get in good with the Head Coach???
If kids schedules were moved around KV didn't do it, especially if they are special ed and require a tutor. That's Federal Law pal...AD's don't mess with Spec Ed. (No one does).
Glaze is a better and much more experienced coach than KV (He's coaching the TE's and helping out on the OL now at Mount Union). Being ONLY an AD or HC is tough enough, but to be both as a rookie is just asking for more trouble. AND, like Murphy and Tony the word is he is going to bring in outsiders to fill the big coordinator spots. That hasn't worked so well in the past, but it's at least better than having parents do it.
I hope they made the right choice with KV and I wish the Spartans luck. It's going to be a monumental task and they are going to need lots of help.

I have always been consistent with what I have said. Check with green prides and smashes post. Got me confused. The day coach I resigned I wrote a article to the suburbanite supporting coach Vaughn. And I have always backed the BYF. I guess you are supporting your own candidate. You sound mad that someone is really trying to turn this program around. Also check emperor mings post while your at it. It seems you guys have allot in common.
If you can find a post with me saying KV isn't qualified then I will never write another thing on here. Furthermore, if you want to retract your statement after you cant find it and apologize I will accept.

Nice try, everyone on here knows that I am consistent with my stances. I have changed my view once or twice after discussions here, and OH, I always gave the reasoning for changing my mind. No need to make things up, you simply make yourself look silly.
Actually I do recall you were VERY VERY careful about showning any support for anything back in October or so, even when asked directly. You get on here and try to confuse people with your rhetoric and BS and your marching orders that you get from a certain individual. Your loyalty is to the HS coach whomever that is at the time, as long as you are important, that's what matters. My loyalty is always to the kids that play in the Youth Organization that I am so proudly part of first, and to the community and the school second.
You claim that you want a feeder system for the HS. That's all fine and dandy, what about the kids that want to come out and be a part of the team or, God forbid, have some fun???? They may never play in HS and that's fine. They are better individuals as they grow and mature, and have learned some of life's lessons through football, and they can take those throughout life. That in turn helps your community by having a young motivated, responsible individuals that make it a better place by being a proactive part of it. Or they could be like you and sit on the sidelines and grumble, complain and take your ball and run away.
And I know this is a long post, read it in 2 parts if you have too.

You thought wrong my man!!! My kids do go to Field because their mother moved there. Myself, I was born a Spartan, grew up a Spartan, played football & baseball as a Spartan, and graduated a Spartan. I presently live in Cuyahoga Falls, but my heart lives in Springfield, so yes I do say "we" have a new head coach-------and "our" football team is going to be better this year. And, oh yeah, I never heard anyone say Springfield is a corn town like Green. I don't think there is any corn fields in C Falls. You guys have the market CORNered on CORN fields!

Actually, you and Ming are always more in agreement than he and I.
Interestingly, I agree that Vaughn would be a good choice, IF he wasn't already the AD and bringing in outsiders who DO NOT understand Springfield's problems.
I have said that all 3 are good choices, certainly better than the last 2 Head Coaches.
Why did you write a letter to the Suburbanite? What makes you so sure Vaughn is the best choice?
I am curious because it is pretty unusual to write a paper about a potential choice for a coach.
What the heck does any of this garbage have to do with OUR new head coach???????
Agreed.
[QUOTE=thepolster;3050236]The day coach I resigned I wrote a article to the suburbanite supporting coach Vaughn. QUOTE]
This one? What was it that you liked about him that you didn't like about the other two? I would like to know what experience they all have.
Green, Ohio -
Springfield lost another football coach. Coach Iammarino resigned Monday as head coach. Where do we find his replacement in such a short notice? If I was the A.D. and I was looking for someone with football knowledge and great teaching skills as myself, and experience as a assistant coaching staff with Ellet High who do I chose? Hmmmmmmmm. All I know is we need to get this program going now and not later. I will have two boys in this program next year and we need more numbers. From what I have heard and from what I have discussed about Springfield's future with Kevin Vaughn {A.D-- that he has a clear plan for Spartan footballs future. I hope that Kevin steps up and takes this position as head coach. Best of luck.

I am curious because it is pretty unusual to write a paper about a potential choice for a coach. Few good reasons why I would chose him.1 He is a no nonsense guy with the kids. 2 Well, when my son and his friends all sat over at my house one day and said they would not want him to be the head coach. I asked why, they replied hes to strict. Then my youngest son is scarred of him, and really I cant even scare him anymore. Some people have it, and from what I know and heard lately makes me lift my head up and put my full support behind him. Our program is in shambles, but if our community can pull it together we can overcome . I will continue to support whoever gets the job. I know Kevin is involved in helping the youth football become a powerhouse to feed our jr high. We will know the final outcome the 22nd when the board meets to approve the new coach. A month ago KV tried to help me with my fundraiser. The guy is trying, and that is what sets a person apart from others. Where is my apology?

Look, Don't take this guy as the sentiment from Green. We all know all he does is come on here to stir the pot.
Personally, I do think that Green will beat the snot out of Springfield, but that's beside the point. We will need to see what Green has after a terrible 07 season.

I will say this, from what I know about your team (which is almost nothing) you guys do have a really good QB in Mason. I also know that he had his roots in Springfield, so I will be rooting for Green all year except for when they play Springfield. It's kind of funny that you will have an ex Spartan leading your team though.------Good Luck Jesse!!
