I realize the season isn't over, but how good are St. X, St. Charles, Mason, and other teams supposed to be next year?

St. Charles's coach in an interview doesn't believe this feat will likely to be repeated for a few years... I've done a little research and based only on the sectional, districts, prelims, and state times, of those entered by St. Charles and St. Xavier his prediction seems to be on track:
Next year's point range from individual events only:
St. Xavier ................. 75 min - 132 max
St. Charles ................ 58 min - 87 max
not impossible, but unlikely.
I took the best and worst places relative to all other underclassmen entered for each entry. For each worst place I added 1 place to adjust for the possibility of a freshman placing higher next year...
This is an unscientific estimate but gives you an idea...
- 18 underclassmen entries for both teams
- 9 entries qualified for state for St. Xavier, 6 entries qualified for state for St. Charles
- 6 entries qualified for finals for St. Xavier, 4 entries qualified for finals for St. Charles

If anybody knows of any other teams that are going to be up next year and might challenge X for state let me know and I'll run it again for that team...

Centerville has some underclassmen I've heard. University could be pretty good, and Upper Arlington could be very good with Huffman.

Moeller had alot of depth this year and they are only loseing one senior on the state the rest were all juniors so we will see how they are next year.

Anyone read this forum outside of the swim season? OHSAA voted to split boys into two divisions in 2008-09:
http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20080613/SPT0301/806130398/
http://www.cantonrep.com/index.php?Category=17&ID=416321&subCategoryID=29
They are also changing the state meet forum to have all event prelims on Friday and all event finals on Saturday. That made me think about teams next year. I pulled the top five underclassmen times from swimmeet.com for last season:
200 free
2 Will Lawley Cincinnati St. Xavier 1:41.78
4 Michael Krone Cincinnati Moeller 1:41.95

6 Evan Schwartz Cincinnati St. Xavier :59.51
7 Sam Lipari Cincinnati St. Xavier :59.91
11 Maxim Litvinov Centerville 1:00.87
In some spots, I included a sixth place since I think some of those guys will be division II next year. StX has four names in the top five (Columbus Lawley Lipari Schwartz), Moeller four (Albers Koenig Krone Sanders) and Centerville six (Gammmell Glasor-Garbrick Litvinov McHugh Perkins Schieman). How many in the top 2...Moeller-5 Centerville-3 StX-2.

Moeller will win every dual meet like we did last year. Also predicting a win in GCL's. Not sure how we'll do in state.

Who is Moeller swimming this year? Do they swim St. X; Centerville; University; UA or any of the other elite teams? St. Charles has its schedule on its website and I don't see Moeller on it.

Yeah, you wont see it updated until like half way through the season. But its usually mason, loveland, elder-lasalle, gcls- st. x, UA, some unknown teams up in canton.
And centerville2010 guy, theres no way you "destroyed" UA

Well we did its was a home meet and our senior night and we won every event except the 50free...bender and chambers both beat hoffman in the 100free, our IMers got 1-2-3 our backstrokers got 1-2 our flyers got 1-2 our relays all won and our B relays beat there B relays... A. miranda wasnt swimming though...

Why do you find this so hard to believe? Centerville beat Moeller at Larry Lyons:
1. Mason.High.School. 321
2. Centerville.High.School 315
3. Moeller.High.School 259
And if Moeller beat UA, doesn't it make sense Centerville would also? A dual meet is fun and interesting, but does not have much to do with what a team will score at state. Here is how those teams scored at state:
4. Columbus Upper Arlington 146
9. Mason 85
11. Cincinnati Moeller 80
12. Centerville 58.5
A dual meet is about matchups and broad depth. The state meet is about a few standout swimmers. At state, Huffman scored 40 of UA's points. In a dual meet scored 4-3-1, he can score at most 8 points. Their two relays scored 50 points at state. If Huffman has a bad day or one of their relay guys is missing, they score much less at the dual. UA scored 30 points at state in diving, but at max, could only score 7 in a dual. In IM, breast, back and fly, if Centerville had average guys that happen to be better than the average guys from UA, they could outscore 28-4 in a dual, while none would score a point at state.
Mason travelled to Louisville and beat Louisville St X (Kentucky big school state champ last year and for something like 20 years in a row) in a dual meet last season. Would UA have beaten Louisville StX in a dual? I doubt it.
At the 2008 SW district meet:
1. Cincinnati Saint Xavier 425
2. Mason 251
3. Moeller 236.5
4. Centerville 217.5
and I doubt there will be a new name in the top 4 this year, but who knows.

Here is my guess at how the Moe/UA dual went:
diving, UA, UA, Moe 1-7
medley: Moeller, UA, MoeB 10-6
IM: Howell, Albers, UA 7-1
200: Krone, Kelch, UA 4-4
50: Huffman, Koenig, Schwab 4-4
fly: Sanders, UA, Moe 4-4
100: Huffman, Krone, Schwab 4-4
500: Howell, Kelch, UA 4-4
200 relay: Moe, UA, MoeB 10-6
back: Koenig, UA, UA 4-4
breast: Albers, Schildknecht, UA 7-1
400 relay: Moe, UA, MoeB 10-6
final score: Moe 69, UA 51
Based on what Elks said about their meet with UA (and it is easy to believe the event finishes he listed), their score was probably something like
elks: 77, UA 43
Did Perkins beat Kelch in the 500 and Chambers beat him in the 200?

Just because StX is not there does not make a meet "nothing special." After club swimmers switch over to their high school teams, these are the meets I know of that have more than 3 big teams from the SW present:
December: Big 8, Canton Invite
January: Lyons, SW Classic
What are some of those "plenty of other bigger meets" I'm missing that have a bunch of teams from the SW?

The Ned Reeb at OSU in December is getting to be a bigger meet. In addition to the Central Ohio teams it draws Solon, Firestone & University from the Northeast. Mason & Sycamore from the Southwest have come. Since it is at OSU Natatorium its worth the trip just for the kids to get to swim in a great pool.
St. Charles hosts a sprint meet the first week end in December every year. Last year the field on the boys' side included Cincinnati St. X, Louisville St. X, Erie (Pa) Cathedral, & Toledo St. Francis. Although this meet is before all the club swimmers join their high school team, it is still a very fast meet.

Ned Reeb is strange. Very, very few SW club swimmers are swimming high school at that point, so a majority of schools send JV teams. But schools like StC and University seem to be able to get their entire varsity team to participate. The StC sprint meet is even stranger. It is more of a JV meet format since it is all 50's and 100's

Yea... that's right... strangely fast. Check the finals and consoles times and compare them with the Southwest Classic. With the exception of the 500 they are very similar top to bottom. Not bad for a bunch of JV teams.

I have never been to the meet and had never looked at complete results before. I had no idea there were 40-some schools. It looks like there are plenty of competitive swimmers from across the state. However, from the SW teams, here is an example of the top finishes in the 50 & 100 free:
10 Jonathan Joyce Sr Mason :22.68
12 Jonathon Hancher Jr Cincinnati Sycamore :23.01
14 Andy Supronas Jr Mason :23.11
47 Chris Culin So Cincinnati Sycamore :24.37
49 Jamie Dowdall Sr Cincinnati Sycamore :24.49
54 Michael Elder Jr Cincinnati Sycamore :24.73
56 Eric Stock Sr Cincinnati La Salle :24.78
60 Sam Sontag So Cincinnati La Salle :24.87
81 Joey Scherpenberg So Cincinnati La Salle :25.94
21 Andy Supronas Jr Mason :51.01
30 Tim Sundrup Sr Cincinnati La Salle :52.11
58 Grant Taylor Jr Mason :54.56
59 Michael Elder Jr Cincinnati Sycamore :54.58
61 Chris Culin So Cincinnati Sycamore :54.83
75 Sean Steele Jr Mason :58.02
I choose not to be impressed by the SW representation at Ned Reeb. It seems most clubs in the SW prefer their swimmers attend the Makos Classic that same weekend.

Because most of the swimming posters are from the SW...probably 90% are from StX. The other posters are from GCL, GMC, CHL, GWOC. I think there might be one guy from Columbus. What SW teams are at the StC sprint?
