Today could be the biggest news in over a decade in the GMC. With the change of leagues for Mason, it could bring to an end Sycamore's dominance of GMC swimming. The boys have a dozen straight and the girls eighteen straight championships. Does anyone think the Sycamore boys have a realistic chance of repeating this year?
Danielle Jansen (Mason) is her name and she is a sophomore (swam 23.88 50-free and 51.77 100-free). She had the top GMC times in EVERY event going into the championships...great young swimmer. In addition to Jansen, there was lots of talent on display at the championships yesterday. Congrats to Mason and good luck to all the swimmers as they head into Sectionals and Districts. With their spectacular facilities, we should expect Mason to dominate swimming for years to come.

Well the results are in: Mason owned this year. Really reflects the USS teams. The Mason club team is growing exponentially, the Flying Fish just aren't what they used to be, and PAC, well, is non-existant (merged with the Marlins, thus losing all Princeton-Pride).
I don't see anyway Sycamore will regain their prominance in the GMC
A Mason girl (I think a freshman) went sub-24 in 50 free: that is insane.
Next year could be a repeat. Mason had 18 top-6 finishes in the individual boys swimming events, out of a maximum possible 24. Sycamore had only 7 in the top-6. Nine of those top places were by Mason underclassmen, while only two will return for Sycamore. Next year, Mason will not have the same quality depth, but still should outmatch Sycamore and Lakota. However, after the class of 2009 graduates...who knows.
The Mason girls are a different story. They have a nice distribution of talent down through the freshmen level. And an outstanding athlete such as Jansen, that could win multiple state titles, will bring a lot of attention to both the school and club teams. Jansen could mean to Mason swimming what Bizzarri meant for Mason girls track.

Yup... while the HS Comets were winning the GMC titles the 13-unders on the club team (MantaRays) were winning the 36 team Groundhog Invitational in Indianapolis. With over 250 swimmers (and growing)... the future is looking bright for Mason swimming.

No obviously not... but obviously a majority or a plurality of the good swimmers go to X. When you draw kids from the metropolitan area of Cincinnatti area that has nearly 3 million people, I throw that into the category of recruiting.
