Bad day for the city of Southlake. The Dragons get beat and Chase Daniel and company are getting drilled by the Sooners.
Not a good day for the lovers of the "Green"
SLC got pretty exposed today. Lack of depth will kill you. Maybe lessons lived, lessons learned are to give your back-ups more playing time when you are beating up on cupcakes. Just a thought.
Wasson pretty much sustantiated Woody's claim today on coaching. BONEHEADED CALL.
St. X made it and won the show with a back-up soph QB and the premier back in the backfield hurt about 4 games. So save the excuses.
But it does save grace for Texas football. If SLC would have won it all, oh gosh, I can not even think about it.
I apoligize for saying SLC embarrassed the state of Texas against MNW. Turns out my friend the ref was right. You all werent that good this year and you probably did do your best.
Goodbye SLC. I have a good feeling your little run is done.
PS: Chase Daniel can kiss the heisman trophy goodbye. He needed to come up big and he did not.
I told my wife as I kissed her and tucked her in that Christmas came early at the Hayes household this year.Gilmer won.

PS: Gilmer road the back of there all world running back, "Da Bus" Maybe Newton is not quite good enough to do that with? Just a thought.

The Kicker for Oklahoma is from SLC so its not all completely bad.
I think SLC's little run is over too although they did have a super group who are now sophomores. Even so, I still think their time has come.

I don't think anyone from Florida even challanged MNW after the SLC game. I think they won a blow out in the Florida state championship game. Florida has a bunch of great athletes that load up at particular schools to make a powerhouse. After that, there is not much else.

TX has many great programs that provide a depth no other State can claim IMO.

I was not surprised SLC lost with a new coach, but I was sorry it came done to the way they lost. I think losing a Div I-A QB to injury does not equate to "lack of depth". When a QB like Dodge goes down, so does the timing. I figured they would lose in a scoring fest.

Hey Woody,

I guess your friend at the 7 on 7 tourney was right. The ref called me last night after he got home from his own game. This guy is WELL respected and has been at a much higher level calling games but had an illness in his family which keeps him close to home. He is going over his game and starts talking about other games.
He said the SLC fans could go down to the "Shamrock Inn" and drink green beer to soothe the loss. I asked why he did not like them and to quote "Its not the kids. The kids are good kids but it is the arrogance of the coaches and others around the team that pi-- me off."
Sidenote - Colt Brennan came up huge. 42 - 50 passing. Now that is putting yourself as a Heisman contender. I got a chuckle watching Chase come off the field and throwing a hizzy when he threw his cap down. They showed a piece on ESPN on the "Shrine" his momma set up for him at the house. It was nice but it was not as nice to look at as his momma. I am thinkin about renting me one of them there Tuxedos and start hitting some dinner parties in Southlake. SLC Dad, can you help me out with getting me in the social circle?

Hey Woody,

I guess your friend at the 7 on 7 tourney was right.

That is ridiculous. Since 2002 people have been predicting a SLC loss. Anyone who knows football will tell you that 7 on 7 play tells you zero about 11 on 11.

I completely reject anyones opinion of football knowledge when they try to make an 11 on 11 predictions from watching 7 on 7.

SLC has not won any 7 on 7 tourneys since being in 5A.

As Bill Walsh often said, wide open offenses with 4 and 5 wide recievers leave the QB vulnerable to injury

What happened was not a quirk, it was overdue

Woody, frankly, your posts aren't really deserving of a response. Your NUMEROUS private messages to me are WORSE. Somehow you have an obsession with SLC. I'd suggest you get over it. Yeah, SLC lost. However, you seem to think it's a bigger deal to SLC fans than it really is. SLC still has one of the premier football programs in Texas and in the nation. SLC has a very good thing going (both on and off the football field) and that's not going to end any time soon.

The only part that SLC fans are sad about is the way they lost. It's tough to lose any game on a fumble on the 10 yard line and when your all-state QB gets knocked out very early in the game. I'd rather lose (or win) straight up any day.

Good luck to your 3A Gilmer team. SLC won 3 state titles during the few years they were in 3A so you have something to shoot for.

I didn't attend the SLC vs. Abilene game because this coming weekend SLC will be performing Phantom of the Opera for their high school musical. SLC is the first high school in the world and the first school of any kind to perform this production. The owners of Phantom are working with SLC to develop a school production version of Phantom. Producers and directors from all over the country (and the world) will be in Southlake this week to see and evaluate SLC's production. They have been working with SLC for months on the production already to fine tune the "school" production version of the show. Later in December two colleges will also perform Phantom and then next year three selected high schools will do it.

On another personal note, I've stepped aside from my investment firm duties. I start work tomorrow as the Director of Finance for one of the largest companies in Dallas/Ft.Worth. I received an offer I couldn't pass up.

Have a Merry Christmas.

ummm

DLS is NOT dependent on a superior QB to run the veer, SLC is almost solely dependent on a great QB to perfomr well, protecting him is a priority, and that does not come with 4-5 wide receiver offenses

I will take Bill Walsh expertise over you anyday

and I think Coach Lad's record stands for itself

SLC does not have enough people to block the QB
I am not surprised he got injured

Given that SLC now looks to have fallen back in the mix with the rest of Texas 5A, a job with the company that supplies the hair bleach to the Dragqueens might not be such a smart idea.

Why would a school, in Texas no less, that has won four of the last five state titles (or four of the last ten for those of you who want to take a shot at the two-division system), schedule a musical for the weekend of a playoff game?

Although, on the bright side, it's not the weekend of a playoff game anymore.

(Maybe the drama teacher talked to that 7 on 7 referee before the season.)

I am not wondering. I read a man had a commitment to the musical and kept it. I suspect he has a kid in the musical. Maybe he was helping finishing the set. If that is the case I applaude him. The do sell radios in SL even though XM radio is preferred.

Who cares about SLC version of the Opera. I went to Toronto and saw the real thing (so I will take a pass on SLC's production)
2 - Good luck on your job. See that is what I am talking about. I also have a great job, but I do not try to use it to guage a response or to shoot a dig. That is the arrogance of Southlake, in its finest.
3 - True, little old Gilmer has not been there before but in 2007, they are still playing while SLC will be sitting in the audience of the Opera, wishing they would not have dyed their hair for nothing
4 - Whether your QB was hurt or not is not what cost you the game. It was a boneheaded call by Wasson.
5 - St. X was able to run the table with a soph. backup QB and there premier rb out for a quarter of the season.
6 - Its not about hating SLC. Its about giving props when props are due. This year, no props. Sorry.
7 - Are you gonna get back with me on getting me in the social circle in Southlake so I can go see Chase Daniels shrine? I promise I will not embarass you by asking what the he-- is on the plate before I eat it. I will also use my salad fork appropriately. Get back with me.

I agree. If he had a committment to the play, then he should have been there. I just wondered because it said nothing about him being involved or committed. I got the impression he was just going to be an attendee.

Btw Dad,

Do you constantly contradict yourself on purpose, just to get under Dad's skin? You are really an a-hole. There is no reason any mature adult should have any ill feelings toward a bunch of high school kids he's never met. Of course, you never responded when I asked you how old you were, so maybe you are a high school kid yourself.
