Paul Rockwood has been the prime candidate that they have been interviewing. He coached at Oak Hills before Ausman did and is currently with CUP. Another great trainer/coach.

What a mistake. If they hire Paul Rockwood they should have kept Chuck Ausman, they are both Dinosars that cannot connect with or motivate todays kids.

Actually I sort of like this move and then I dont.

I LIKE: He has good success and won't make his players play a certain style like chuck ausman does. In highschool you have to adjust to the types of players you have and change your style up based on that.

I DONT LIKE: I think it is time for new blood and a young coach at Oak Hills. Players like a young coach who can motivate them and seem to listen to the younger coach. I think John Mirizzi should get the job, personally. He is young, has alot of experience and knows whats best for this team. He knows all of the players and trust me is not loyal to Ausmans style and play system.

I see what you're saying about a new, younger coach sometimes being easier to connect with. I played for Ausman at CUP and we clashed because of the style he wanted us to play. However I really respect Rockwood for his coaching and teaching. He has probably been one of the top influences on me at CUP and I think he can connect better with high schoolers while still being a great coach.

Trust me I played for Oak Hills and he clashed with everyone because we were forced to play a certain style. Rockwood is one of the best coaches/trainers in the Midwest. He is well known and is a great trainer. The guy wins games. I think if he gets the Oak Hills job, Oak Hills will be in way better hands.

Rockwood is out at CUP.

Is Rockwood really out at CUP to take Oak HIlls job? When did this happen, he was working with us at training just last week? I guess this kind of makes sense, as he stepped down from director of boy's program at CUP last year to Mcginely.

He isn't completely out yet, but he is slowly pulling away more and more for family reasons i have heard. Which makes me believe he won't be coaching Oak Hills either.

CUP training facilities aren't exactly a convenient drive for him. He actually resides in the Oak Hills district, so the Oak Hills job is actually a good fit. It gives him more family time and more of a convienence.

1. Paul Rockwood
2. John Mirizzi (Oak Hills Asst.)
3. Lasalles coach

Has he ever been a head coach before? The GMC can be brutal. Is this what Oak Hills needed to bounce back, or did they just want someone in the building?

He has been an assistant to Colerain and Oak Hills. I personally, think Mirizzi was the right choice and can bounce this team back. Are they going to win the GMC? NO. But I think he will get them back up to the middle of the pack and a top 4 or 5 team in the GMC in a few years.

Because he was an assistant to Ausman did not mean he supported Ausmans ideas, because he didnt. Which is a good thing. This guy will adjust his style and let the guys just play.

Great hire for Oak Hills.

If you have watched him coach his girls team, that by the way is terrible you have to be saying, what the heck did Jan just do. Oak Hills soccer has just been set back 10years.Did anyone do thier home work on this guy. Oh well Elder soccer fans will be loving this. He coaches a very low C level girls team for club, and has been a assistant at Oak Hills:shrug:  :hello: :hello: :stirthepot:

You cant really compare the two teams. His girls team is probably bad because he has no talent on that team. BTW, it is actually his wife's team. He just helps out. Nobody cares what elder soccer fans think about this job. What does his duty as assistant at Oak Hills have to do with anything? HE WAS NOT LOYAL TO AUSMANS SYSTEM!!!! HE WAS AGAINST IT! :wallbang:

wow I can't believe everyone dissing Rockwood, who IMO is definitly one of the best CLUB coaches in ohio. People are saying that, oh he's too old? Any good player wants a coach that will make them a better player, i mean yeah it's cool if they're younger, but saying you wouldn't want Rockwood as a coach is a ridiculous statement. I can't stand ignorant comments, i've been trained by him and he's helped me develop my game numerous times. If he applied for that job, that is a disgrace he didn't get it.

I agree he is a excellent coach and trainer, best I ever had. But we dont know what happened in the interview process. Money could of been an issue, maybe they wanted to give the job to someone in the building? We dont know.

If Rockwood still wants to coach in high school, Mt Healthy is looking for a coach.

I know Elder and Oak Hills is a huge rivalry, but I don't see why Elder fans would care who got the coaching job. The players win that matchup, not the coaches. I think coaching is mostly thrown out the window when the whistle blows. It's just a brutal game every year.

I know nothing about Mirizzi, but I do hope he puts oak hills back on the map because they always have great players on area club teams that do nothing for the high school team.

Wrong, it is always a combination of good players playing and good coaches coaching. You have to have both to win. For example, if you constantly choose the wrong players, or put them in the wrong position, players will underachieve. Oak Hills has had plenty of good players, they always have and they always will. If this coach cannot pull them together and motivate them, we will have more of the same. I hope he can do it, time will tell if they made the right choice.I have heard they passed over a great candidate, in favor of thier Buddy. Buddies dont win city or state titles. The best players and coaches do. good luck Mirizzi.

well said Panther Dad, that is exactly why they needed someone that has a proven track record as a Varsity Head coach and I hear the guy they did not hire was a proven winner, I just dont know who it was , but I will find out eventually. We hired a very unproven guy, with zero track record at the Varsity Level.I think they took the easy route and hired someone that is already a teacher in the system, and a friend. They did not hire the best Candidate.Big Disappointment. But I will support the new coach I am still a Highlander Go Highlanders!

I was not referring to Rockwood , if you have been reading this thread you would of read one of my other posts that said if they hire Rockwood they should just keep Ausman. Thanks off sides for the help and clarification. The other 2 Coaches have great experience, and both have won at High Levels and both will beat Oak Hills next year and for years to come. I will not say who they are to protect thier current positions. They are both employed. Both very successful Varsity Head Coaches with winning records.
