I think it is fairly clear the 1-7 All City players. Can you help with 8 thru 20?
1. Niro Wimelasena - Mason (Leadership, talent, player of Year?)
2. Kevin Donnelly - Princeton (athletic, talented, player of Year?)
3. Matt Bahner - L. West (all around strong player)
4. Austin Morgen - Colerain (outstanding Goalie)
5. Anthony Meyer - Elder (dangerous forward, Throw Threat)
6. Scott Burnette - Mason (Areas most skilled player)
7. Kyle McCarty - Anderson (Knows game, winner)

Luke Spencer(WW) possible top 10
Kuhlman(Colerain)
Grothaus(Milford) and maybe Huerkamp. Both deserving, but tough to get with talented senior class this year.
Corbett(Elder)-one of the most talented center-mids in the city, top 8 worthy.

gotta be either niro or bahner who win POY... they both do so much for their team. Grothaus nor Huerkamp deserve all city, on the stats sheet maybe, but definitly not on how they help much they help their team.

grothaus and huerkamp for all city? i dont think so. neither one even made 1st team in the FAVC. i agree with prince08
i'm saying bahner and niro co-players of the year. both are well deserving.

I agree with these, except K. Donnelly as POY. I believe you need to be on one of the top teams to be POY unless you are just that much better and Kevin is a great player, just not better than Niro.
I would look at the top teams and add (while being on the top teams is not the only criterea...):
Petry from Mason - controls the midfield
Dooley from West - Bahner may be POY, but West defense drives that team and Dooley drives the defense
Lavigne from Sycamore - controlled the midfield even against West and Bahner
Brady from Milford - without him Milford did nothing against West.

Good points - Bahner is up with Niro and Kevin - these are the top 3 - any would be a great choice for POY.
Forgot about Spencer - he is clearly in top 10

I was actually told that spencer finished 7th in the voting. i dunno if he tied with someone on your list or what but i heard that's where he ended up.

Niro gets POY and Meyer is 2nd, then Bahner. I was just throwing out one of the Milford players b/c of their record this year. I only hear about those 2 and tommy george and he won't make it.
I go to Mason
10-28-07, 08:23 PM
scott is definitly a great player but with so many different great mason players I don't think he'll make it.
Think about it
Niro
Patterson, no one has said anything about him
Seth Petry
are all more likely canidates, I don't think you can vote 4 players from one team no matter how good they are.
I also agree about Dooley, he's a great player and deserves to be on this list.

I'm pretty sure that none of the Milford players will get recognized on the All Southwest Ohio team. My understanding was that the coach was not a member of the coaching association and you can't put players up unless your a member.
It is unfortunate is that is the case, the coach has to participate to get his kids awards.

Agree Mason has 4 or 5 really good players, But if you watch Mason play multiple games it's clear Niro and Scott make the engine run.
what about patterson? i'd say he is more vital to mason's success then scott burnette is. they are both great players though.
I go to Mason

It should be Niro, hands down, he is the best player all around and is very much a team player.

:hello: :hello: :hello: Bahner is an obvious selection for all-city, but it seems Chris Dooley is being overlooked. Dooley is the key to the entire west defense totaling 11 shutouts. He has leadership as he is captain for West, and plays the entire game every game. They are writing a book in the Bible for him, so he should definitely be all city without a doubt...

We got a good list of 15 players. We have 3 great POY players. Now - How many will get voted to All City. My guess is 2 or 3 will not. The coaches are great, but they do not see these players enough. Too much reputation and too much looking at offesive stats. McCarty is clear example - clearly in top 7 but likely will not be All City ?????????

Even though Niro will get POY, it is very tough for defenders to make all-city. That's just how it goes. Keepers usually get the defensive credit. There is a good chance Dooley can make it. But no more than 4 defenders will get in, and lucky if 2 get top 10.
1. Niro
2. Meyer
3. Bahner
Others in top 10: Spencer, Corbett, Lavigne, Burnette, Morgen, Donnelly

meyer's good, but i still don't think he's better then Bahner, maybe HSwise but if you put Bahner up against the best defenders and Meyer up against the best defender, Bahner IMO would do better.

What about the FAVC. Sure i know its not the best league and barely compares to those such as the GCL and GMC, but still lets hear some names...?

You all have been saying that. Look at the stats, what do you think the coaches will do?? I guarantee he is second. I would bet $$ if I knew you personally.

I think you are missing the player that College Coaches think as #1. It is not the high school awards that coaches look at. Most high school awards are awarded to the big conference such as the GMC when the best players are playing in other leagues. The more coaches in the league the more votes. The best player most the time does not win. Look back over the years, the GMC always has the the POY, regardless. Watch the all-star game and see who the best player is.

Looks like the GCL has the better team as ELDER beat Mason, therefore the player of the year should come from the GCL.

Niro is the best player in cincinnati, maybe the state and will be POY in the city.

That comment is ridiculous...Niro is easily better than any player on Elder or any other GCL school player for that matter. He will be the unanimous pick for POY and will be All-State.

yes i agree with everything about niro.
i also agree with the comment about a milford player being all city.
it should be matt servizzi or tommy george.
i mean come on matt held up the defense and tommy had i think the most shutouts.
just something to think about
tell me what you think
Statechamps02
10-31-07, 09:36 PM
Tommy George didn't have the most shutouts. Keeper from west has 11. Keeper from Elder has 11. At the end of the regular season, I think Talwanda's keeper topped Milford's by 1 shutout for All-FAVC. I figured one of them would get in b/c of their season, not b/c they are top 20....b/c we all know it doesn't happen that way.
