this is my favorite youth sport to watch there is no b.s. the kids performances speak for themselves if they work hard in practice they get better(always) if they are lazy they get their arses kicked (not always but eventually), so the sport itself is self motivating no one to blame but your self and that is a good life lesson for young boys and girls to learn early. yes i said girls there are quite a few girls that wrestle and do very well in youth the whole testosterone thing has not kick in yet ( at least for the young ones ) all other sports will seem easy (from a conditioning and mental toughness standpoint) compared to wrestling it will make your kid a hard working animal his strength and speed will increase alot it really helps football players the 2 sports compliment each other.

I agree with spartan71, wrestliong is a great sport for all kids. My boys have wrestled for many years and I think it has taught them many valuble lessons. I also agree that you get as good as how hard you want to work. Best sport in my opinion. Springfield is lucky to have some eally good youth wrestling coaches in J.C., Mo, Ed and everyone else who helps out. Unfortinately my boys aren't wrestling for Springfield this year, but it's not because of the coaches. They just go to a different school now. I think they will be okay where they are at-another good program. It seems to me that you don't seem to get all the political bull---- in wrestling that you get in other sports. If you win the wrestle-off your varsity, if you don't win you're not. Doesn't matter who your dad is, or who your dad's drinking buddies are. Talent actually is all that counts. Other sports ought to follow wrestling's lead. Just one guy's opinion. Anyways, I'll see you guys at the matches. Good luck, and keep those boys working hard.

It`s all up to the kids performance. I hope my boy will stick with it this year. Got to get him doing something besides t.v. Wrestling is a great sport for all kids. The things you can learn that carrys over onto the football field is great. That low center of gravity and tackling form. My son dillon used to tackle high, then after one year of wrestling he became a beast, leading with his whole body. You know when a wrestler hits ya. All coaches are awesome if they are there for no reason but for the kids.

if you missed the sign-ups JC said you can show up @ the first practice on this friday 11-2-07 @ 6:00pm-8:00pm and fill out your paperwork no big deal bring your kid and tell them to be ready to learn how to work hard!!

OYWA has added more weight classes to the youth varsity level the weight classes will be :
52 new? 86
56 90
60 95
64 102
67 110
70 120
73 130
76 145 new?
79 160 new?
82 180 new?
it used to go from 130 to 155 then finally 180 i'm glad they gave some more upper weight classes from 130 to 155 is a big jump.
parents don't stay on the fence about wrestling bring them out let them decide for themselves there are lots of little ones (5-7) out on the mats its hillarious to watch them practice...

if your 4 year old is 52lbs and can beat any one in his weight class on the team he would be the varsity guy so what i'm saying is the no age to young but i believe 12 is the age limit for youth wrestling

Hey man, I miss you guys. How does the team look this year? You should have some tough 6th graders this year. It kills me that my boys aren't wrestling for JC, Moe, & Ed this year. At least they're wrestling though. I'm not sure I like the situation though. We have 67 kids practicing in a cafeteria on one full matt. If you don't mind, let me know your practice schedule and I'll try to bring the boys out to a few practices as long as JC and the other coaches don't mind. I still hand out pins so tell your boys to find me at the matches. I do still bleed red & gray! Anyways, good luck, I'll be rooting for all the boys who wear the red & gray!

practices as of now are mon, wed, and friday you guys are always welcome as long as i am sheriff.... hey mom34 i'm looking into getting some practice time with the JH for some of the older/bigger boys like once or twice a week. i hope the new JH coach is receptive to the idea since he will be getting them next year. i think they practice every day from 3:30 to 5:30 i will know more by tonight. buck29 any chance of you guys coming back to us this season?? we could roll out a pretty tough varsity with your boys back in the mix at springfield. also a few of us are hitting the coventry and referees tourney this weekend are you going to be attending?? let me know and we can hook up and hang out in the bleachers for about 8-10 hours a day just like old times:Ohno:

I am looking to do a tournament this Saturday. If I can still get them in at Coventry we will be there. Sunday's bad do to birthday party. I'm going to call them tomarrow and see if they'll let us in since it's a pre-registation tournament only. If not maybe I'll bring the boys out next Monday. They really miss all you guys, and my girls do miss "Brown Sugar". If I don't see you this weekend tell all the boys I said good luck! Later

Hey Kevin,
Todd won't be wrestling Saturday because the deadline was last week. I think he's going to do the tournament on Sunday. Todd wanted to come and watch Zack wrestle, you think he can tag along with you guys saturday?

the coventry tourney for saturday has been cancelled there is one in westlake but that is quite a haul i'm not positive we are going to go but if we do it is not pre-register so todd could wrestle but i don't think any coaches are going to westlake

I heard you guys did pretty well at the referee's tournament today. We wrestled out at Canfield today. Jimmy did very good. I hear that Zack is a beast this year. I still would like to come out for a practice or two some time. Tell the boys to keep up the good work. Later.
