There were 3 Roster spots available to add to the Team. 3 Players were chosen from the JV, to join the Team. The 3 players who were chosen were kids we felt, deserved it, as well as, would be able to contribute to the Team in a positive manor. Just so happens, 2 of these kids have Fathers who coach. Nothing more, nothing less.
I don't feel the need to explain this any further on Yappi. If you would like to discuss this matter, with me in person, I will be at the Practice field Mon-Thurs this week, preparing for the Playoffs. I would be more than glad to explain to you why we made these choices. Or, send me a PM, and I'll give you my home phone# to call me at.

this click and daddy stuff is getting old can you find something else to complain about?? most of the coaches thru-out youth football are fathers. i would put the 3 players chosen by the varsity coaches against any J.V. players in the whole syf thier performance's this year earned them that spot to florida (i would of like to have seen a couple more of the j.v. kids chosen)or would you rather have ssyf pick kids from other varsity's as other teams have done i don't see anything wrong with that but i'm sure some in ssyf would. come on springfield lets keep bashing each other this is great for our community.

Know that is not fair ram. they need a few kids to get the numbers up to 22 so they a full offense and defense to practice against. I Heard these players will get very little playing time I dont know about these players being the best of Jv. I think the only player that could hold his ground would be #6. And yes a couple are coach's kids are going there. But these kids will not start or handle the ball before the rest of the Varsty kids get to handle the ball. Is this correct Irish87

Well, I was at the practice field from 5:45 to 8:30 last night, and nobody showed up to discuss any questions or concerns.
Spartan81,
as stated earlier, these 3 players were chosen to play with the Varsity, because they worked hard and earned the privilege. Are they going to start? No. Will they play? Depends on if they work hard. If they continue to work hard, learn the system quickly and do not goof off, then yes, they will get a chance to play. No spot is secure on a Football team.
Will they get to handle the ball? Possibly. The 3 players chosen, all play skill positions, so if they do get a chance to play, they may get a carry or two. The experience they gain, playing in a Playoff atmosphere, will help them in the future as they continue to play football. In my opinion, as well as the other Varsity Coaches, all 3 of these players can "handle their own" with this Varsity group.
Were there more players who worked hard, and may have deserved a chance? Yes, but unfortunately, we set the Roster limit at 22 kids and there had to be a cut-off point.
Again, I don't think I have to explain, my Coaching strategies on a website. If you have questions, feel free to come down to the field again tonight between 6:15 and 8:45, and we can discuss. I will hold no ill will towards anybody, who wishes to question me, but please, lets do it face to face.

I really like how a few J.v players are going to florida with the syfvarsity team. looks to me that if daddy's a coach or in the syf click they get everthing. Thanks sfy board that's real classy of you.
The SSYF Click is open to anyone, who adheres to one of the following requests:
-pick a piece of trash and throw it in one of the 12 Trash cans located at the field, just one time.
-help out in the Concession Stand, just one time, through out the 3 months that Youth Football takes place. Just once.
-volunteer to run the Chains at 1 of the 24 Home games, instead of makint the Visiting team do it every week, including one of the Visitors Directors.(by the way, thank you Mr Field Director). Just one time.
-don't b***h every time your asked to help Support SSYF through Fundraisers.
-Stay off the practice fields during practices, when asked politely by your coaches.
-volunteer to help set up a game field, or help tear down a game field, just once, after any of the many Home games.
-sell or buy, just one Reverse Raffle Ticket, for the largest Fundraiser SSYF has, as requested. Just one.
-dont sit in the bleachers or on the sidelines and complain about every little thing.
-dont bash and talk badly about every person in the SSYF because you don't agree with what they do.
-don't complain about how the field looks. Pick up a piece of trash for petes sake.
-don't complain about the Banquet
-don't complain about the Director
-don't complain about a coaches kid
I'm sure I forgot about a few, but I think most people get the jist of it. :wallbang:
If you can follow one of those simple rules, I will bring it before the SSYF Click, Board of Trustees, and we will think about letting you in.

So this is what I have to look foward to when my kids come up threw the ranks of syf. Have the kids work there butts off all season Take them deep into the playoffs work hard enough to get them to a national spot light. And then have acouple of kids with less expierence and that had ABSOLUTELY NO PART IN GETTING THOSE VARISTY KIDS WHERE THEY ARE come in and take these second string positions. This is the Kinda of stuff that is making people want to leave and do away with the syf. Those jv kids deserve somthing but its not to get the spotlight from someone else's hard work How can the director of the ssyf let you get away with this or does he even know. what your planning. You should be ashamed of yourself Irish. And no I will not come down to your practice, you stab your own kids in the back you would do the same to anybody else.

So your ok with throwing them on a Scout Team, to assist with practices for 4 weeks, but not ok with them earning a little playing time?
Nobody is taking any spotlight from anybody. Relax. These kids know their time will come and they are aware their PT will be limited. I am simply stating, that if they work hard, and help this team, they will be awarded with a few plays, as any player would be. Without these 3 kids, we only have 17 kids to practice with. That gives us 11 on one side of the ball, and only 6 on the opposite. Throughout the year, we have been "held back" a little, during practices, because of the small roster size. After one practice with all 20 kids, we have already seen the results.

Two questions:
1. What did the Varsity do before this week with only 17 kids?
2. If your JV was still in the playoffs would these kids still be on the Varsity roster?
Irish87

1) The Varsity practiced, going half Line.
2) No. If the JV would have advanced, they woul have stayed with their respective team.
GRPride, not sure what your getting at?

What I'm getting at is they should "only" practice with the team, not play in the games.

What parent, kid, would want to bust his arse, for 4 more weeks, and not have a "chance" of playing in a game? Why even ask a kid if he wanted to move up? What parent would want to spend all that money, to go to Florida, and watch their kid practice.
Listen, nobody said these kids were going to take anyones position, start over anyone or play more than any of the Varsity roster. I am simply saying, if the opportunity presents itself, it would be nice to reward these players with PT.

Why do those kids have to go to Florida? They could practice for four weeks and stay home. If the kids don't have it by the time they get to Florida, one or two practices ain't going to get it done.
It just seems that you will be driving a wedge between some of the players that have busted their arses all year just to see something like this happen.
We had kids last year practice with us for 3 weeks after their season was over and they didn't even dress for the games little lone play in them.
This seems like much ado about nothing. Watch high school basketball when the tournament rolls around. The JV kids are done playing their games and a couple get called up to varsity. They practice with the team and dress for games, but rarely get into the game barring injury or blowouts.
When they go to Florida, don't they play a few games against teams from similar leagues over a short period of time? I imagine that if the varsity was down to 14 kids during the regular season, they would call up a couple JV players. The only difference here is that calling someone up from a 1000 miles away is a bit more difficult. It's better to be prepared for that situation.

I really don't think you can compare a high school basketball team (which is made up Varsity and JV players) and two totally separate pee wee football teams.

Maybe I'm totally off, but I thought it was common practice for a varsity team to pluck up a few players during the season if they had injury/quitting problems. Once the JV season is over, as long as they aren't going to take away starting spots, I don't see a problem bringing up a couple players for insurance.
Maybe I'm just being idealistic but I don't see the problem.

Why not just stay with the team that you have had all year? Why try to "stack" your team for the playoffs?

You did forget about a few requirements...You must be able to make yourself believe that all of your players are of age to play. Please don't get it twisted we don't want to be in this type of a click, we just want things to be ran right. You would expect the same if you weren't in it....

If and you can see that's a BIG "IF", the varsity doesn't win against Cuy Falls this weekend, will they still go to Florida with a 7-2 record and no championship game appearance?

Qualifications for the Tournament in Daytona, is that you finish in the Top 4 in your League. With Springfield locking up Division 2, earning a Bye last week, that automatically qualified them for the Tournament. SSYF was kind enough to recognize a good season for these, and offered to send these kids to Florida.

I remember two years ago Mogadore went to Florida and played one of the teams from the SYF that went down there with them. How much sense does that make? Go to Florida to play a team you have already played.
How many teams will be down there and how many do you have to win to be a "national" champion?
Irish87

Green, Springfield, and possibly Cuyahoga Falls are all going to this Tournament. There are 200 Teams accepted, and many different catagories are available, based on age and weight restrictions. From what I'm told, the Tournament is run like Brackets. You are put into these Brackets by the Officials based on the restrictions mentioned above. You may also request, to not play a Team from your Regular Season League.
To answer your question about how many Teams are crowned National Champion, not sure, but sounds like there will be more than one, with 200 teams present.
You could probably get more information from the Green coaches, since they are the Daytona Beach proffesionals. This is our first year, so we're just rookies at this.

We did not play another syf team. We played a team from raynham, mass and a team from tucker , ga. They are usually pretty good about keeping you out of having to play someone from your own league. also the term 'national champion' is a bit of a stretch, but , I will tell you that the kids have an absolute blast.
